Handmaid's Tale- is it past its natural end?

Hi all- I am aware there is a separate thread for this but I am only on season 2. My question is this-

Is it typical of US series in that they are stretching the program much beyond its natural end just to capitalise on its success? I don't want to invest more time in it if it just gets worse and worse like Lost, Walking Dead, 24, plus others.

Not just American series, BBC do it too. Long, long after my interest has waned. I'm still watching Handmaid's Tale 4 - because still not getting out much in the evenings! - but I'm past caring. You won't be missing anything if you give up at series 2.

Thanks Katy- I just want to know that there's an end to it!

They're already thinking about season 5 Shock

SoupDragon · 27/05/2021 12:50

I've watched up to S3 and I do think they should wind it up. I can't bear the thought that they still won't win and have the whole system abolished.

towers14 · 27/05/2021 12:51

I'm watching season 4 now and it's bloody good!! No spoilers but I'd recommend to carry on.

purplecorkheart · 27/05/2021 12:53

I gave up midway of season 3. I really think it could have been completed within two seasona.

PegPeople · 27/05/2021 12:59

I've seen up to the end of s3 and even then although the storylines were good some episodes had begun to feel very dragged out. I will eventually watch season 4 but I agree that it does now feel like they are just going to keep going because they can rather than because there is enough of a story to justify more seasons.

CruCru · 27/05/2021 19:06

I think that they’ve planned for up to ten seasons. Supposedly they’ll keep going as long as Elisabeth Moss wants to be in it

Rubyrecka · 27/05/2021 21:40

I'm watching season 4 atm and June is grating on my nerves but I feel obligated to finish it

Rubyrecka · 27/05/2021 21:41

10 seasons?!??
CruCru · 27/05/2021 21:44

Yep

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/05/2021 21:44

How are you all watching season 4?
In simple terms for a non technical person please.

PegPeople · 27/05/2021 21:48

10 seasons!! Yikes that's madness. Surely most people understand the concept of finishing a show by always leave them wanting more.

The best series I've ever watched end and left me feeling bereft because it's over as apposed to feeling almost forced to endure it until the end because you've started watching it.

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 27/05/2021 21:52

Where are you all watching it? It's only showing upto season 3 on prime.

Rubyrecka · 27/05/2021 22:26

I'm watching it via fire stick, there's a app that you can download and it streams movies and tv shows early (or something like that, maybe it makes it available for everyone when they're released in the US)

IndecentCakes · 27/05/2021 22:30

I'm up to ep 7 of S4. It's ten episodes long but at the moment I'm thinking it would have been nice to have a longer season of 14 episodes or so, and naturally wrap it up. That's how it feels right now.

Gardenista · 28/05/2021 20:10

Please can you explain how you are watching season 4 in the UK - I'm willing to pay but not very techie - thank you

IndecentCakes · 29/05/2021 01:23

I live on the EU mainland and subscribe to HBO.

RuggerHug · 29/05/2021 09:32

RTÉ player should be available in the UK, free to download. We're 4 episodes in here I think. I'm another one who's invested enough that I want to see it through but hopes they don't drag it out/take the piss. It's making sense story wise and they're doing flash backs to before aswell to fill it up but I'm not as annoyed as I thought I would be(great endorsement thereGrin)

gingercat02 · 29/05/2021 09:41

For those who don't stream TV S4 will be on C4 later this year according to their website

Cocolapew · 29/05/2021 09:42

I gave up a few episodes into season 3.

OverByYer · 29/05/2021 09:45

I’d normally agree but as Margaret Atwood is still involved she must be happy with it so I will persist

wickedwitchofthedance · 29/05/2021 09:46

I'm on season 4 and it's a good watch.
