Handmaid's Tale- is it past its natural end?

Hi all- I am aware there is a separate thread for this but I am only on season 2. My question is this-

Is it typical of US series in that they are stretching the program much beyond its natural end just to capitalise on its success? I don't want to invest more time in it if it just gets worse and worse like Lost, Walking Dead, 24, plus others.

@Theimpossiblegirl

How are you all watching season 4? In simple terms for a non technical person please.
On youtube

Yeah, I’ll keep watching. Even if it isn’t as awesome as the first season, it’s still better than most other things on the telly.

I suspect that Margaret Attwood is happy to still get paid. Unless they do something really peculiar to the series, she’s unlikely to kick off for artistic reasons - she seems fairly pragmatic. The Testaments seemed to follow on from the TV show rather than the original book so presumably she’s happy enough with the TV show.

I never really got into it. Watched about 4 episodes but found it too depressing.

BilboBercow · 29/05/2021 13:02

I'm also watching Season 4 and finding it excellent.. I watch on hulu via vpn

Roodicus21 · 29/05/2021 13:05

I'm loving season 4 too.

DoodleLovin · 29/05/2021 13:08

Season 1&2 were good, season 3 just dragged on but I’m enjoying season 4 so far. I think it’d be sensible for them to end it at season 5. I think it’ll have run its course by then.
Some of what happens in season 4 is so far fetched and would honestly just never happen. That’s when you know they’re trying to keep it going!

InpatientGardener · 29/05/2021 13:11

I gave up midway through season 3 too, I feel like it just lost the shock factor after season 2.

BG2015 · 29/05/2021 13:20

I'm watching Season 4 currently via a fire stick and a vpn.

Season 3 did annoy me in parts but season 4 is more exciting. I'd stick with it

PinkSatinMoon · 29/05/2021 13:42

Nousernameforme · 30/05/2021 17:21

Rte is available but handmaids isnt on it You tube doesn't have it either unless there is a code word to search for.

Scottishskifun · 30/05/2021 17:24

Watching S4 I would say nope it's hasn't gone past a natural end I'm loving it still and a lot of the subtleties that link to previous series!

For those that are in the uk for season 4. The thing I find crazy is this story has been taken from real life events around the world. It doesn't just end look at Iraq, the world war went on for several years. It just doesn't just end and everyone lives happily ever after. If you read the book gilead went on for over 200 years. There is now the testaments with Lydia nichole and hannahs story. It isn't just June's story now there's others still trapped in such regimes.

It’s defo on you tube....I have watched all 7 episodes.....you just have to watch in several minutes blocks....Eg one episode means 5 or 6 clicks.... but no big deal....better than watching a load of ads inbetween

Season 4 Finale ....

OMG 🎉

grrrreat ☺️

Nodal · 17/06/2021 00:50

I found this season one of the best so I would say no.

I think they'll link it to The Testaments a some point

BlueDaises · 17/06/2021 00:56

Season 5 has been agreed has it not ? 🤔

I do hope so ☺️

DavidTheDog · 17/06/2021 07:17

I gave up at series 2.

I read somewhere that series that start off with a great concept eventually turn to being about the characters instead. I haven’t done that explanation justice, but it struck a chord with me and I see it replicated again and again.

EatingAllThePies · 17/06/2021 07:26

I didn't finish s.3 it felt a bit dragged out to me so I'm not going to bother with it any more.

TheMotherlode · 17/06/2021 07:31

I think they may be in danger of overdoing it, although I’m wondering if they will somehow pull in the plot of The Testaments, I think that would be a fitting end for the series.
