Approaching end of binge and don't know what to binge next - help!

I ALWAYS feel like this and I always struggle to choose what to watch next.

Currently on season 16 of greys anatomy on Disney+ I could watch station 19 which recently landed or buy private practice on Amazon which I am tempted to do but don't know if I'd love them as much as greys and I'd just be annoyed

Other options are the resident also on Disney or ER on all4 or other medical dramas not sure I want another medical one right now though.

Usually I like crime dramas - police procedurals mostly like ncis, criminal minds etc

But feel like I want something lighter but NOT a comedy per se.

I like the lighter touches in greys, ditto dramas like white collar and lie to me which are dramas but with comedic elements, huge fan of Gilmore girls which I've not watched in a while too and may revisit also parenthood (the series), also a huge fan of charmed, I tried supernatural and Grimm as along similar lines but just didn't really like them.

I like conspiracy type stuff too, Cold War, spy stuff but I'm not sure I fancy that at the moment

Toward the end of a binge I feel like "I just want more of this" which of course isn't possible

I'm lucky enough to have Netflix, prime, Disney+ and I can buy on Amazon too if it's something I think or know I like, I'm housebound so bills and this are all I spend my money on at the moment really.

So... Please hit me with your favourite dramas with a comedy touch?

Orange is the new black I was bored halfway through the first season - fully of badly written stereotypes and repetitive storylines hated it - dd loves it but she likes undemanding viewing we generally have very different tastes in viewing

Loved the good wife, need to catch up on good fight

This is us I love but definitely not the lighter tone I'm looking for at the moment, my own dysfunctional family too similar

I don't have access to sky nor do I wish to

New amsterdam is ok, bit cheesy and trite and at times overacted I thought

I do have prime if sopranos on prime thats a possible

The bold type is on my watchlist - what I could really use is an app or website a bit like IMDb but says "if you liked this you'll probably like these" that's ACCURATE, existing apps and sites of this type AND the streaming services own algorithms ALL seem to recommend the SAME shows repeatedly I even did a thread about that and others had the same experience. So annoying.

I seem to have similar issues on Netflix things that are coming up that may suit you.
Sherlock
The crown
The Bodyguard.
Poldark
How do you feel about subtitled foreign series could widen your lists if that suits

Graphista · 17/05/2021 09:07

Subtitled stuff is no good as my eyesight poor plus I tend to be stitching when "watching" but thanks anyway

The Coroner. It's got dead bodies, detective work which the coroner has her own theory about as something is not quite right so sets about proving the detective wrong, lighthearted (some interesting characters) really fun, and being set in Devon /Dartmouth area great scenery too. Stars Matt Bardock as Davey the detective alongside Claire Goose as Jane the coroner - she's returned to Devon with a teenage daughter and finds herself working alongside Davey, various dead bodies turn up and they solve how the person actually died. Lots of gentle humour, and there is a romantic twist as Jane and Davey were romantically linked as teenagers but split up - as the 2 series progress you find out little snippets of what happened and why they split and keep wondering if they will get together again despite the fact Davey is in a troubled marriage...Sadly it was a daytime series when first out on BBC and perhaps didn't command a big enough audience and series 3 was never commissioned.

Currently showing on Drama, (series 1 episode 5 tonight 8pm) you can watch on catch up uktvplay.uktv.co.uk/shows/the-coroner/watch-online/?collection=crime-drama&type=collection

Designated survivor
Intergalactic - mainly female cast

Another vote for New Amsterdam

Snow Piercer

The Oath

Curfew

ssd · 17/05/2021 11:25

Spiral

Its beyond good

Sisisimone · 17/05/2021 11:30

I'm currently binge watching The Shield on Prime, an old one but brilliant.
Ozark is really worth a watch. It doesn't portray drugs in a sympathetic way at all, in fact pretty much all of the characters are unlikeable but you get really drawn in by the plot
The Blacklist is very binge worthy and has elements of humour in there (James spader is brilliant in it)
Also binged on:-
Money Heist
Lupin
Call My Agent
Prison Break
Sons of Anarchy
Boardwalk Empire
Braque
The Wire

Sisisimone · 17/05/2021 11:31

Borgen and Succession also both brilliant

MintyCedric · 17/05/2021 11:35

Firefly Lane is just beautiful...poignant, funny, heartbreaking...can't wait for season 2.

Succession...Dynasty meets Wolf of Wall Street...brilliant but shocking in parts, some of the characters are wild!

Obviously Unforgotten and Line of Duty if you haven't already. Really enjoyed The Split with Nicola Walker as well.

Motherland

MintyCedric · 17/05/2021 11:38

Prodigal Son also fascinating...about a FBI psychological profiler whose father is a convicted serial killer

Goodtohear · 17/05/2021 11:40

Chicago med and New Amsterdam on prime.
Designated survivor on netflix.

Twizbe · 17/05/2021 11:47

I've just started rewatching lost. Not seen it since it was first on TV. There is a lot that I had missed and it's aged well (given the first series is almost 20 years old!)

rosegoldwatcher · 17/05/2021 11:55

My favourite English language watch, by far, of last year was You.

Two series are available on Netflix in the UK. It's so good - about a charming but morally bankrupt man and his obsessive pursuit of a woman. Such is the standard of the acting and script that I (and many others who have seen it) found myself really liking the main character!

Brothers and sisters on Disney +

Graphista · 17/05/2021 21:54

Have settled on

The resident

For now on Disney

I'm always like this at the end of a good binge - unsettled and takes me a while to find new binge

jay55 · 18/05/2021 06:15

Hope you enjoy the resident.

Have you seen Castle? Police but not too dark and plenty of jokes to balance all the murder.

DamSky · 18/05/2021 06:39

After that I will throw in

Mozart in the Jungle (Prime) - rubbish name, brilliant light hearted series with fabulous music.

heyyyall · 18/05/2021 07:06

I'm currently binge 2atching Bones on disney+ I'd recommend it.

Scoobygang7 · 18/05/2021 07:12

I am currently rewatching Leverage. Full seasons available on prime. An ex insurance investigator, brought in to keep a bunch of criminals working together who usually only work alone. It builds from there and is a fun watch.

starsinyourpies · 18/05/2021 07:27

Following as I have also just finished series 16 of Greys and am mourning it!

I enjoyed New Amsterdam and got very sucked in to Nashville!

Sisisimone · 18/05/2021 08:04

My friend who loves Greys Anatomy also binged on The Blacklist and Scandal. Have you seen How to get away with murder?

MissBattleaxe · 18/05/2021 08:21

Little Fires Everywhere on Amazon prime was excellent. About 7 long episodes and really meaty drama.

Graphista · 18/05/2021 16:30

Castle and bones are also ones I know so well I can recite the scripts! Great shows.

I ended up moving from resident to HTGAWM watching again from the start as it's been a while and it's a complex show so feel I need refreshing

Ariela · 24/05/2021 17:03

Do try The Coroner, it's fun.

peoplearepeople · 24/05/2021 21:34

Burn Notice
The Librarians
Scorpions
Barry
Patriot
Prison break. The first couple of seasons were great. Stupid, but just so watchable.
I second Orphan Black. It takes a few episodes to get into it. Initially I thought the acting was awful, but boy did I change my mind by the end of the series. Just amazing and felt quite different to a lot of stuff out there.
