One thing that niggles me is they never translate the Punjabi in the subtitles. I watch with subtitles all the time and it just says “speaks Punjabi”. which I suppose is an improvement on “speaks own language” when English is also Suki’s own language!

It's well known - Airport security staff are trained to spot signs of a girl being taken away to be cut. Just as we teachers were trained to notice signs too.

What signs do teachers look for? Is it general chat about holidays from the girl or is there information so the girl knows she can approach a teacher in confidence. It’s being portrayed as the child isn’t aware that it’s being planned?

I know Sonia is a miserable cow but I do feel quite sorry for her. I get the impression that she's quite lonely. She's been single for years, most of her family are long gone (whether that be dead, or left Walford) her daughter has gone to the other side of the word, she was a nurse through Covid, and she's stuck minding Dot's house and living with 3 teenagers who aren't even her own. Keegan and Tiff are lovely characters at the moment to be fair, but Dotty needs a slap!

And honestly, if I was Kathy I'd be telling the police and social services whether Mila liked it or not. Mila clearly doesn't have a clue what to do. For all they know, the mum suspects Mila has figured out what's going on (I mean, she told Kioni the same crap she told Mila when she took her to have hers done, she must know that Kioni is going to excitedly tell Mila about her 'shopping trip') and has pushed Kioni's FGM forward. When a child's safety is involved to such a large extent, Kathy should know better.

Being aware of ages in different cultures when "ceremonies" take place. Overhearing conversations between girls about FGM. Parents being particularly cagey when requesting holiday about the purpose of the holiday. Girls reacting in a particular way when you question them about a forthcoming holiday, or them not knowing the full details of where they are going and why. Girls talking about coming of age ceremonies. Knowing that a girl's sister or cousins have been subjected to FGM. Girls who defend FGM or believe there to be benefits when we talk about it in PSHE - those girls for whom it is normalised.
