@tecatea

IMHO Ted fessed up at the end so that he would add to the ‘institutionalized corruption’ line he has been trying to prove. He implicated himself so that Carmichael could not continue to ignore it. At risk to his own career ...

That's what I thought, he told her to make her complicit. If she acts she damages the top line about no corruption & potentially opens everything up since it goes to the top is AC 12, if she doesn't &
later it comes out proves corruption.

Yes, I thought this was clever of Ted. If there is another series it will be interesting to see what Carmichael does with this info.
AC12theletterofthelaw · 03/05/2021 09:33

@OhWhyNot

Covid didn’t restrict the excitement in other episodes so don’t think it would have in the finale

Carmichael is a good character but not a leading character would soon get bored of her passive aggressiveness

You are right. I suppose I’m clutching at straws and still disappointed.
Atalantea · 03/05/2021 09:33

@Rhannion

We needed a Kaiser from The Usual Suspects, instead we got Buckells!
Yes!
EvilOnion · 03/05/2021 09:33

@Whereismymojo I think Steve pushed back on revealing too much about/to Carmichael because they knew she was corrupted. It would tip the heads off and be covered up.

I took Ted confessing to be a bit of a twos up - she hates him and would love to see him sent down but if she investigates it then she'd have to reopen the investigation into the OCG which she's implicated in somehow so she's fucked either way.

"Carry the fire" to me was Ted voluntarily resigning and walking - passing her the torch/burden so to speak.

I don't really understand the Jo postcard life change but I suppose Kate did tell her she could live the life she deserved. She was implicated through no fault of her own and helped to bring them down so got special treatment whereas Gill was just a bitch who got greedy and tried to block them at every turn.

DinosaurDiana · 03/05/2021 09:36

I hope they do a series or a special where Carmichael is found to be bent and the daughter or the officer doing the speech on the steps. He is H and she is doing his work.
Ac12 gets reinstated, Ted gets his job back, and Steve and Kate get together as a couple 💕

@CHISistoast

I think ok, Buckells if we really must. But his interview was lame: we wanted drama! And that would have made his unmasking more credible, showing us a glimpse of him actually being quite clever. We could've seen the van swap under the flyover and that could've provided a little tension...
I don’t know how but I missed this! I looked down into my popcorn looked up and Kate was in the van. DP says they just switched it! Must have been really blink and you’ll miss it stuff!
ImAncient · 03/05/2021 09:38

No Kate & Steve as a couple no. I like that they are friends & not lovers.

Roboticcarrot · 03/05/2021 09:38

I would have liked to have seen Ryan the one interrogated in the penultimate episode, I think it would have been interesting to see if there was anything they could use to bargain him into talking, and could have been interesting interesting see what was said. I do wonder if the ending is purposefully a bit ridiculous and anti climatic to leave people thinking wait a minute, this doesn't quite add up, perhaps there is someone in the investigation making effort to cover up.

Roboticcarrot · 03/05/2021 09:39

Yes same, it was refreshing to have a male and female colleague friendship that wasn't will they won't they, and inevitably feed into the view view men and women absolutely can't just be mates.
GlassBoxSpectacular · 03/05/2021 09:43

@DinosaurDiana

Wasn’t it Carmichael that had spelled the word wrong ? I thought it was her being marched in under guard.
No. Where did you get that from? Confused
DinosaurDiana · 03/05/2021 09:43

But I think she was suggesting they get together when they were in the bar.
I think they would be good together as they’ve both been through the same stuff, know the pressures of the job, so can empathise.

diddl · 03/05/2021 09:46

I enjoyed last weeks episode.

For me it was one of the best.

I also thought that Carmichael was OK in it tbh.

Miraloma · 03/05/2021 09:46

The only loose end for me that hasn't been mentioned is if Ted is still living in a Travelodge, and did they ever fix the toilet?

I got a micro-hint of that too in the bar scene.

In the event that there is a season 7 and they couple Steve and Kate up, I’ll be very disappointed Sad

dottiedodah · 03/05/2021 09:48

Bit of a strange ending! Still not sure who "H" is are we? Lots of build up and left hanging really .Lets all hope for a series 7 !

DinosaurDiana · 03/05/2021 09:48

I’ve just rewatched part where they find out who spelled definitely wrong. Ted says ‘let’s see what Carmichael has got to say now’, so I assumed it was her that had written it.

IrmaFayLear · 03/05/2021 09:51

How was it “real life”?

To maintain a network of corrupt police officers and prison officers would take a huge amount of time and a colossal amount of money for bribes. Also, why does all this drama only take place within a few square miles? Is “H”/Fourth Man limited to this small area and nowhere else in UK?

Agree that Jo got a pretty nice life on witness protection. She had presumably spent 20 years doing the bidding of ne’er do wells, facilitating crime and costing lives, yet she gets rewarded with a country cottage, attractive girlfriend and a golden retriever?!!!!!

I would have done more plot-wise with Ryan Pilkington - he was offed too easily. And, can’t think whether it would have worked, but I’d have Neil Morrissey to make a triumphant return!

Because she was the acting head of the AC divisions, and had also mentioned several times that Buckells was innocent she’d should have all charges against him dropped.

That's because Carmichael had been vehemently defending Buckells and trying to get him released. This proved her wrong.

And when Dot and Bill Gigolo texted ‘urgent exit required’, and all hell broke loose, was that being routed/arranged via Buckells? Confused
Nith · 03/05/2021 09:55

@DinosaurDiana

No, it was clearly Buckells who spelt it wrong. Ted just referred to Carmichael because she'd said there wasn't evidence against him and was so determined not to pursue him or the Chief Constable.
Nith · 03/05/2021 09:59

What was predictable was that the last thread about the final would be full of anger and disappointment. I called that one ages ago (about the only thing I got right

It was never going to be any of the mad crazy theories fans created with everyone related and Steve a ghost.

I agree, I wish I'd put money on it. It happens at the end of every popular thriller/police series, and was bound to be magnified for LoD as we're looking at the end of six series. Some people would only be satisfied if Mercurio had come up with a totally unexpected, bizarre outcome that was even more outlandish than their own.

EvilOnion · 03/05/2021 10:01

Buckell's was never "H" because H was never real.

Buckell's is just another go between, the 4th man in this particular investigation but one of many across the force.

They're everywhere, Jill could've messaged anyone because there are officers in all units who could help pull strings within the force and the OCG.
