@Nishky

The smirk occurred at the same time as the caption about public interest immunity. I thought it was a suggestion he knew he would never face trial.
Yes. This was the reason.

@Milkywaystars

Message for Mr. Jed Mercurio - before you start writing the next series, please read the MN LOD threads. Particularly, threads 8 & 9 of series 6 discussion as it'll be an excellent resource of ideas. Also, can you please tie up some of the series 6 unfinished loose ends in series 7. Thank you.
I’ve another message for him.

Don’t piss off your audience.

Christ, no. The ideas bandied around these threads were mostly ridiculous in the extreme (there were some good ones, but they were a small minority).

Jo not ending up in some sort of boden advert

How come Gill got an old council house on a rough estate, but Jo got a lovely cottage and a designer fair isle jumper? I'm almost convinced now if I do a few jobs for the OCG, I will get a property upgrade - it also worked for Buckells. I bet Prasaad is in a mansion.

Bluntness100 · 03/05/2021 07:16

I think the reason so many people are pissed off, is because whomever was organising it, from murders, to robberies, controllling a network of corrupt officers both police snd prison, you expected to be someone clever, senior, powerful etc, so we expected something dramatic and exciting was going to happen as they found a big fish.

Instead it was an incompetent police officer, just passing messages on for the money, and the real masterminds were indeed the Ocg.

It might have been more realistic, but it’s not a documentary, they passed the point of disbelief a long time ago,so should have kept thr drama going and made the last episode a big one, instead of a damp squid.

Ulysses · 03/05/2021 07:16

I'm disappointed that if it was a final final episode we didn't find out what happened to Ted, Kate and Steve, which makes me conclude that there's room for a 7th series but then I'm so over the whole OCG/4th Man/Higher Echelon's of the police force storyline.

I did keep anticipating another reveal at the very end so felt left unsatisfied by that but in all it did seem a tight wrap up.

I am at the moment feeling like it went out with a whimper than a bang. I'm glad Jo and Terry got happy endings but really wanted to make sure that our beloved three did as well. I would have been so gutted if any one of them were implicated. Ted kept me on my toes those first 20 minutes with all his "good work teams', I was half thinking that this was leading up to him being the big reveal.

diddl · 03/05/2021 07:17

I didn't think it would be Osborne as in Series 1 he wasn't corrupt as such "just" arse covering.

Carmichael I think as someone else has said just wants to get on & have as many resources in actual policing.

I also agree that it's more about various officers at different levels facilitating things for OCGs.

TenPenceMix · 03/05/2021 07:17

I think trunshon was the massive clue it was Buckells.

Milkywaystars · 03/05/2021 07:19

Grin Shock Grin

Ulysses · 03/05/2021 07:23

I think it worked well when Dot was the caddy and he kept overcoming the obstacles that AC12 were throwing up. You could see his mind ticking and all the manoeuvres that he had to put into place to get his fellow officers off his scent.

Now I'm wondering why Davidson was so easily able to get Buckells arrested by putting the documents in his car if he's pulling her strings on the other end of the laptop.

Ulysses · 03/05/2021 07:24

Good point, about his poor spelling hiding in plain sight!
Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 03/05/2021 07:30

I don’t mind Buckles, but it would have been better if he wasn’t just the messenger and was actually an evil genius pretending to be a buffoon.

I wanted an ‘H’ who was the mastermind behind it all, but this mastermind is just nameless people in the OCG who remain completely unknown.

Piggywaspushed · 03/05/2021 07:31

Trunshon wasn't his misspelling though.

I feel like none of the clues really stacked up to being him and Jed, in a mild panic, having learned how pissed off people would be if it was Ted - or how obvious Osborne would be- cooked up this ending in mild panic.

PurpleFlower1983 · 03/05/2021 07:32

So disappointing, I’ve not really enjoyed this series except the clever reintroduction of Ryan.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 03/05/2021 07:33

I think that's the joke between Jed and Jimmy N. Jimmy had been asking for ages to be in it so finally was- even if only in a picture and as a corpse

For me this has become the issue with the programme. I have loved it since the start but it has felt, increasingly, that the Tedisms and endless 'alright mate' interactions are ticking boxes for some fans rather than advancing the plot.

The entire storyline in Spain was pointless. Just a gimmick for flashing a bit of JN without him having to actually appear in the show. And Carmichael - she had dominated the last two episodes. Taking over and clipping wings. Cutting surveillance budgets etc. Where was she in this final episode? Nowhere til the last 5 mins.

The scene where they switched JD's escort so that Steve was then with the bent prison officer was incredibly rushed. How did they intercept a moving convoy with about 2 mins notice?

GlassBoxSpectacular · 03/05/2021 07:38

I think trunshon was the massive clue it was Buckells.

Good point, about his poor spelling hiding in plain sight!

A woman texted him asking if he’d show her his ‘trunshon’. He replied with a text about his ‘helmet’ (🤢)

So that misspelling wasn’t his.

EeeByeGummieBear · 03/05/2021 07:40

@Graffittiunderpass

I absolutely loved it.
Me too!
GlassBoxSpectacular · 03/05/2021 07:41

So what information did Jo provide in return for the lovely witness protection lifestyle? Confused

Yes, because she didn’t know it was Buckles!!

EeeByeGummieBear · 03/05/2021 07:46

@Misty9

I reckon it was Osborne. But jed is commenting on the state of police corruption with that ending imo. That they are above the law
This is why I looked the ending. No master criminal, some clueless bloke in it for the money facilitating communication between the OCGs to help to their work. Demonstrating how corruption is- chop off the head (Tommy Hunter) and several more grow back in its place, just like trying to deal with drug dealers/ people smugglers as well. I thought it was well observed and realistic. And loved Teds confession at the end and Carmichaels response. He was giving her corruption to investigate, but she really couldn't be arsed with it! Loved it
diddl · 03/05/2021 07:47

The messages on the laptop-I was thinking that they were coming direct from the OCG rather than H.

Was the idea that the final H was someone high up who was running an OCG?

Or that there were corrupt officers & the one that they were looking for was high up?

When they realised who Ryan was it must have given the clue that it was still an ongoing thing & that there were more than Dot knew about?

Do they even all know each other?

sansucre · 03/05/2021 07:51

@FrustratedTeddyLamp

There was also a lot of stuff that didn't need to be there like Steve's fire arm being taken.
For those who are querying why Steve's meeting with Occupational Health was given screen time, particularly if there was not any real reason behind him relinquishing using a gun, it was to demonstrate some police officers put their work first. Remember in Season One Rita Bennett (the civilian police investigator) states that due to stress 'she's going on the sick,' her behaviour is in direct contrast to Steve who has always put work first to the detriment to his health, (and to Kate whose family has always come second and ended in divorce and her husband getting custody of her child).

Last night, I was really disappointed about the ending but now, I think it is about right because in real life, things aren't often tied up neatly with a bow. I was also somewhat incredulous that Buckells was involved. But, he wasn't H, he was merely the fourth man, so did not need to be a criminal mastermind if he was a go-between and a fixer. I have worked with Buckells-like managers, people who have failed upwards because they happen to be in the right place at the right time and are easy to control/manipulate. They might appear dumb, but, they are canny enough to realise that this serves them very well.

When Jo and Kate did their Thelma and Louise, Jo took Kate to the print shop as there was going to be Something Very Important there or in the flat opposite. That thread was never resolved?

No there was lots of loose ends. I think also we didn’t find out who jo thought her dad was, who the bent copper was there. Plus the whole shooting of Ryan we never saw, and why Kate went on the run with jo and thought the police were fitting her up
