@EsmaCannonball

I agree with others that Line of Duty was better when it focused on individual officers being sucked into corruption, rather than the overarching, convoluted conspiracy storyline. The rot started when the series 4 ending had another shoot-out in the AC-12 building, continued with the whole Dot Cottan Morse code idiocy, and finished with this mostly damp squib series. Annoyingly, if there's another series, I'll watch it to see if it returns to its early form.
I agree with this and with another poster who said something similar.

Trying to remember all the names and plot lines from 5 previous series was making my head spin. If there is to be a 7th series, it should basically wipe the slate clean and start with an entirely new storyline independent of all the previous shenanigans. This series has been exhausing, and the reward hasn't been great.

PeskyRooksRGT · 02/05/2021 22:50

It was Susanne Jones @STGDisAnEvilWolefGenius from Doctor Foster

unique1986 · 02/05/2021 22:51

And what about when Whole Carmichael being onto Kate with the fire armed trained officer comment last week.

CheekyWeeShite · 02/05/2021 22:51

We already knew that, it was revealed before he died...

Pretty sure it wasn’t.

Spinningthewheel · 02/05/2021 22:51

Loved it!

Was worried it would follow some of the outlandish fan theories. Instead we got a decent twist, enough wrapped up to be satisfying but not so much as to be unrealistic, and left open for another series.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/05/2021 22:51

@iklboo

Jesus, Mary & Joseph, the wee donkey, the three Wise Men, shepherds, sheep, the innkeeper, his wife, King Herod & the milkman!!!
You forgot the Angel Gabriel!

He's p*ssed off by this ending, too. Angry

www.denofgeek.com/tv/line-of-duty-series-6-episode-7-h-the-fourth-man-the-end-of-ac-12-all-our-questions-theories/

This is a good write up. I still feel it’s been poorly delivered compared to previous series

Frazzled2207 · 02/05/2021 22:52

I’ve spent the last month re-watching the lot from the very beginning to try and make sure I could keep up for the “big finale” and what a colossal waste of time that was.

TheLODstinkyunderpassAKATits · 02/05/2021 22:52

@motherofgodhaudyerwheesht

well, sorry, but I thought that was excellent and credible. TBH (lol) some people clearly wouldnt have been satisfied even if the IP addresses tracked back to Buck House and The Vatican and Osborne detonated himself in front of the media cameras.My pulse was racing, I stopped breathing and was gripped. Any anticlimax at seeing Buckells in the chair was a sharp reminder 'you can never tell'.

Urgent Exit from this Thread Required to avoid coercion into negativity.

as you were fellas.

haudyerwhisk [sorry, I can't help masel] I agree! We all knew Buckells couldn't have got to his position without some help, but I think we also all knew he wasn't top dog, he implied there was no top dog as such but I think that's a bit of a misdirection, ie likely he doesn't even know who is at the top kind of thing.

I'm still in.

Oh and the new programme with the submarine...I'm in even though it's Suranne meh Jones...cause wee Compston is in it!

unique1986 · 02/05/2021 22:53

Series 4 imo was better than 6 and 5.
Shame as LoD ratings are through the roof.
Youd think the writer would have gone all out and written the best ever character driven crime drama ever.
It certainly cannot have been his best work.

Ellenthegenerous · 02/05/2021 22:53

@Snog

Mother of God that ending was written by the wee donkey. Biggest. Let down. Ever.
Bit of an insult to the wee donkey there Snog
GlassBoxSpectacular · 02/05/2021 22:54

In all 6 seasons I think Jo and Terry are the only two who have ever got a 'happy ever after storyline'.

Don’t forget Nige - he was doing pretty nicely in his (non-Spanish) retirement Grin

Mammyloveswine · 02/05/2021 22:54

@tecatea

How did Kate get into the back of Jo's transfer van without evil prison officer laydee in the front knowing about it?

She did know didn't she as Steve was next to her in the drivers cab

That's what I thought!
tecatea · 02/05/2021 22:54

And what about when Whole Carmichael being onto Kate with the fire armed trained officer comment last week

well she suspects & want to dangle over Kate but too hard to prove.

mynameiscalypso · 02/05/2021 22:54

@unique1986

And what about when Whole Carmichael being onto Kate with the fire armed trained officer comment last week.
Wasn't she just telling Kate that she knew Jo was lying and that Kate shot Ryan but it suited everyone to have Jo take the fall for it?
cliffdiver · 02/05/2021 22:54

@ExpulsoCorona

So was Jed showing how idiots or people who act dumb can get promoted up through the ranks? Like Boris Johnson? Trump? But someone else is pulling the strings. Like Dominic Cummings. Who is pulling the strings now?
DH also said there were political undertones of incompetencey.

Trump being POTS, BJ being PM, Buckells being H Grin

unique1986 · 02/05/2021 22:55

Unless Jed M doesnt want to do more series you can guarantee a series 7 and 8.
15 million viewers..

lothermand · 02/05/2021 22:55

Been waiting all bloody week🤦🏼‍♀️

Mintyflesh · 02/05/2021 22:55

I feel like I lost a shilling and found a penny.

CheekyWeeShite · 02/05/2021 22:55

We already knew that, it was revealed before he died...

Just remembered - the first time his name comes up is Steve telling Kate that this is what Lakewell revealed in the transport, early in the episode following his death.

unique1986 · 02/05/2021 22:55

But it was be nice if he writes the best series that has ever existed lol

Janus · 02/05/2021 22:56

@DeRigueurMortis
Is that the point?

That Buckell's wasn't a criminal mastermind.

That's how he got away with it, because he was an over promoted idiot.

He was consistently overlooked because everyone over estimated the "smarts" a bent copper had to have

To start Hunter was pulling the strings and was a clever, nasty piece of work but as AC12 chipped away Buckell's was all that was left.

But if he was that stupid, which he seemed to be, getting tripped up in the interview with his assumption of getting into the witness protection scheme, how could he have carried this off for so long? It would have been a bit obvious??

Gah, maybe I’m overthinking it all!!

OhWhyNot · 02/05/2021 22:56

Does it need to be realistic

It wasn’t an issue until this episode

Could have had the three of them go for a much needed drink in the pub on the way we see a blacked out Range Rover turn to follow them

End

That would have been exciting

Fairyliz · 02/05/2021 22:57

Anyone else wondering how much James Nesbitt got paid for supplying two holiday snaps?

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 02/05/2021 22:57

He wasn’t “top dog”. It was made clear in season 5 that Dot was referring to a group of four corrupt people within the organisation doing the same thing as him

But he was the one sending l the messages including the one about killing Kate. If he's been that close to the OCG for so long he will have been close to loads of killings. It's implied that he was giving orders to the OCG in series 5 so why would Banks say 'that's what happens to a rat'. Surely Buckells is more senior than Banks?
