Mother of God can someone PLEASE explain episode 6 to me?!

I've watched it three times & I still don't get it!

I don't understand what Jo was up to, why did she create/attend the decoy robbery at the beginning, what I mean is, why did she try to delay the arrest of Carl Banks? I'm so confused why the whole interview... for the sake of the wee donkey someone please help my very simple mind?!

😂😂😂 Im getting more & more confused with every episode.

I really have to concentrate, Ive watched it from the start but its hard to remember characters & story lines from way back.

Because her dad was a top level member of the OCG and raped her mum (who happened to be his sister ).

So she was born into a family of OCG and was forced into their world a young age. If she didn’t do their bidding, they would kill her/her mum/anyone she cares about or worse (ie frame her for serious shit)

I thought Carl Banks killed Gail Vella, and she was stopping the police arresting him.

As I understand it Carl Banks murdered Gail Vella on the orders of the OCG. Jo used the decoy robbery to delay his arrest so they could substitute Terry Boyle as a stooge to take the fall for the murder.

She basically manipulated the police investigation because she was told to by whoever’s in charge

Because they would be in trouble by both the OCG and by the police so it wasn’t safe for them to stay where they were

They (Kate in particular) also didn’t know if a bent member of police was controlling things…ie if she would be framed

I was soooooo confused too... I'm listening to the 'shrine of duty' podcast, I find that helps with explaining each episode.

Because Steve phoned her to say that Ted wasn’t in charge anymore which casted doubt on the chain of command. IE it could be a “bent copper” framing her

Because of Jo’s background, and the OCG being able to get anyone to do anything through sheer terror, that’s why Jo has done all she’s done. Same as why Buckells let Lakewell be lured to his death in prison etc etc.

I don’t think there’s a ‘relationship’ between Jo and Kate, I actually think Kate has been trying to get close to get info.
I think we will see some kind of flashback to when Ryan was shot and the immediate aftermath. I think Kate went with Jo just to get as much information as possible. The rest of her being upset at being hunted down by Steve etc was false.

@GAL8 I can highly recommend the Shrine of Duty podcast. Not only have they recapped and talked about loads of theories through this series they’ve also got all of last season and some handy recaps of the ones before that.

Thank you! I thought that was obvious but didn’t know why Kate etc didn’t piece together their surname connection?? I’ve just started watching all of series 6 again (having spent the past 2 weeks watching 1-4 again!!!). I feel like I should be able to go on mastermind with line of duty being my specialist subject but I’d probably embarrass myself and get just 1 point!!

And related to Carmichael. Hence the change in behaviour of Jo immediately after Carmichael clicked her pen 4 times (morse code for “H”).

Jed Mercurio has deliberately set it up so H could be any of Thurwell (who will turn out to be the bent copper Jo thought was her father), Carmichael or Osborne. Or Andrea.
