Hope you all don’t mind, getting near the end of thread 7, so thought I’d trot this one out!

The thing with LoD is that the audience sees and knows things AC-12 doesn't. For example: we know Terry was cuckooed in S1 and JL's body was in the freezer in his flat back then. That he's known Ryan for years. That he took loads of photos of the comings and goings from the print shop. AC-12 don't know any of this, but they do know a freezer removed from the flat they arrested Terry in this series had JL's DNA in it.

The other thing is that the writing is really clever - there's lots of detail and info and you don't know what's relevant and what isn't, what minor detail could be a crucial piece of information. So many other police dramas are very simplistic.

User135644 · 27/04/2021 18:00

And through it all, from Series 1 on, I have wondered if the show intentionally presents the police as a bit dim

I've always thought Ted was portrayed as being increasingly stupid as the series has gone on. The way he fell for Dot's inane bullshit to frame Steve, the way he acted with Kate when originally overlooking her for promotion, his bizzare, erratic behaviour throughout the last series where he made so many bad moves.

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/04/2021 18:25

As she said to Kate - ‘I’m not a fool but I am pragmatic’. I think she’s a career-minded, ambitious jobsworth who simply wants to get to the top of the tree so she’ll follow whichever path will get her there.
Yes, and for this reason has also been having an affair with Osborne, who is very very bent. Possibly he is H.

I think the body under the concrete will be Jo's mother.

I also think Jo may be u/c in the prison to expose the murdering warders.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 27/04/2021 18:29

Carmichael definitely lacks people skills, specifically empathy and emotional intelligence. The interview with Jo was really interesting in that respect - both Steve and Ted got far more out of her than Carmichael.

Interviewedundercaution · 27/04/2021 18:31

Yes, an affair with Osborne would also make sense of her shutting down any mention of him.

User135644 · 27/04/2021 18:39

Carmichael is probably just the company person type who will naturally protect her boss and higher ups. A bit like how Ted acted around Fairbank, buying the whole confused old man routine.

PomLikeTheBattle · 27/04/2021 18:51

Yes I predicted on my work WhatsApp LOD group (!) re Carmichael and osbourne - the thought made people nauseas.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 27/04/2021 18:56

I wondered about Carmichael shagging Osborne too 🤣

TheLODstinkyunderpassAKATits · 27/04/2021 19:05

I've listened to both podcasts and am on my second watch...

Why was Osborne's photo removed from the Op Lighthouse evidence? Carmichael definitely under his influence there.

Everyone asking why Kate ran away from the scene with Jo - I think Kate knew it was her only chance to get more info from Jo, that Jo was rattled after what happened and she would hopefully say things she wouldn't say under interview. And she did give her info, and pointers like the print shop/TBs flat. As for not specifically seeing Kate make the shots - the gsr was on her clothes, it had to be her.

Jo specifically says "my dad was bent, a police officer" that's all she says, we don't get any inkling as to whether she spent any time with that person, but I'd guess not, and that was just what her mum told her when she asked who her father was. Jo really was rattled, she did not have the air of any of our previous bent cops. Steve knows things aren't right, he knew he had to speak to Kate before she got taken off which is why he walked them back.

I don't think that was Thurwell's dead body the policia found..it was the mexican house thief...

DeusEx · 27/04/2021 19:06

I was really confused by why Kate and Jo ran, why and how Steve had left his keys for Kate, and why Kate was so disturbed by Steve being ‘in on it’ to the point of getting teary? And why she almost refused to surrender her weapon? It all felt over dramatic and didn’t really seem to make sense...?

DeusEx · 27/04/2021 19:07

@TheLODstinkyunderpassAKATits GrinGrin

Iamtheweedonkey · 27/04/2021 19:17

I think Thurwell is Jo's step dad - makes sense with him being SIO on the Christopher Lawrence case and letter Darren Hunter off - as his nephew.
I don't think Thurwell is dead - I definitely caught a glimpse of JN eyebrows masked up as a Spanish policeman.

It seems like there is going to be an awful lot to cover in 60 minutes. I just hope that one of the fab three doesn't die.

Logistically impossible. She wouldn’t be able to unclench sufficiently to allow penetration.

I’d bet her sex face is quite the sight, though.

PomLikeTheBattle · 27/04/2021 19:25

If for some inexplicable reason you want to shag me, I must inform you I can’t unclench.

Iamtheweedonkey · 27/04/2021 19:27

Just looked on wiki site and it states how old/dob of detectives. I am quite surprised, Thurwell is meant to be 55, Osborne 56, Dryden is slightly younger. Jo is 42, I'm very confused now, as to who her step dad could be. Unless it was the old copper who peed his pants a few eps back?

Sorry be be pedantic, boss, buts it's Lawrence Christopher, not the other way round. Don't want to risk the op going tits up, gaffer.

Because it was Steve's own car & it didn't occur to her that there would be a tracker on it, so she thought Steve must have told Carmichael that she would be in his car?

I actually thought that AMM was really good in this.

I think that she just does her job to a point & no more & that's why she was shutting Hastings down.

Although it did piss me off when Jo kept saying that she isn't bent when she has admitted to doing as the ocg have asked her to!

Iamtheweedonkey · 27/04/2021 19:34

Mother of god! Apologies gaffer, long day at the office. Will not get that wee man's name wrong again.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 27/04/2021 19:37

😂🙈

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 27/04/2021 19:38

Nah I reckon it’s all a persona and once in the privacy of the bedroom (or Osborne’s office) she’s an entirely different person 😳😂

Iamtheweedonkey · 27/04/2021 19:44

She's a praying mantis if ever I saw one. Would eat a man alive I tell you.
