Ok, I've started a new one in anticipation of Thread 3 filling up tonight, part way through the episode!

Ted hadn’t been ‘sacked’ though; he’s been strategically and forcibly ‘retired’

That's kind of what I meant by sacked. Same thing, different verbiage

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 12/04/2021 09:40

I felt so awful for Ted :( I wonder how it’ll work given there is a guaranteed series seven? Maybe they will do enough to get a stay of execution for a bit as often seem to happen with local services around here. Enough to give them another year for s7.

Or they take down Osborne (hated him from the start, ugh) which affects the decision.

Or maybe series 7 doesn’t feature AC12 at all, it’ll be about the disbanded team posted elsewhere trying to take down bent coppers individually while Ted battles (after all it is his name fella) to help from retirement while also drinking himself into an early grave.

A flash forward of 40 at the end of series 7 will show Ryan promoted to chief of the entire police force, obv.

ImAncient · 12/04/2021 09:40

Brilliant 👏👏 Buggerthebotox

Heyha · 12/04/2021 09:41

Ahhhh thanks both, I understand what Jimmy was getting at now. Was going to rewatch it today Blush I mean I will anyway but those explanations about race-related being a cop-out (see what I did there) make sense. So it's just bad luck that loads of BAME officers are being killed. Although saying that I suppose if you listed the white coppers that have been killed there's no shortage of those either, it's just that most of them were baddies!

Heyha · 12/04/2021 09:44

The only way Ted is staying on in his job is if the decision to cut back on the AC units is completely reversed, in my opinion. And that will only happen if something happens to Sidhwani and/or the horrible Wise woman, or was it someone higher up that made the decision? I missed that bit too. Osbourne? Either way whoever made the call has got to go one way or another for Ted to be in active service next season.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 12/04/2021 09:47

I really dread to think what big dramatic ending there will need to be in s7. One or more of the main three will have to die I think :(

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 12/04/2021 09:49

I understood it as being from higher up than Wise heyha - she certainly seemed smug about it but it didn’t sound like it was her choice. I assumed Osbourne

itsnowsineaster · 12/04/2021 09:50

Oh for goodness sake - I am a newbie to LOD.

Spent last night until 3 am watching the first series.
Am hooked on the current series.

Am thinking of sneakily watching another episode now.

Have they pretty much kept the cast together over the entire series? If so then this is amazing.

puginamug · 12/04/2021 09:52

I'm going to put my money on Jo being related to Jackie Laverty.

If you turn to page 12 in your folders.

  • They are close enough in age to be sisters or, at a stretch, teenage pregnancy (possibly with Tommy Hunter!)
  • Steve said it was a nominal match, meaning someone who was charged or cautioned, not a police person
  • There has to be something the OCG have over Jo - so "we'll do what we did to your sister" would be a strong enough threat.
  • Jackie is from County Durham which isn't that far away from Glasgow really so possibly moved away after Jackie left home
  • there has to be a reason her freezer's been dragged back in now
  • Chloe was confused, which means it's someone she recognised as already connected to the case.

I'm happy to take questions.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 12/04/2021 09:52

Lots of different people come in and out of it snow :) but there are some main characters throughout and lots of recurring characters

ohfourfoxache · 12/04/2021 09:52

Anyone else think Chloe looked REALLY nervous at the end? Looked like she literally gulped when Ted was handed the file

BobBobBobbin · 12/04/2021 09:53

I think Tommy Hunter as the DNA link to Jo makes most sense - her having a family link to OGC provides a route by which she may be being blackmailed/coerced. Some of the wild ‘twins separated at birth’ theories are just way too far fetched and what would be the relevance of her being linked to eg Corbett?

As for Chloe - plausible that she is bent but as we’ve had the ‘new AC-12 staff member is bent’ storyline twice already (with Dot and Jamie) it seems a bit old hat to run with again!

MysteriousAffairAtStyles · 12/04/2021 09:57

Indeed. But my point was if you’re ‘retiring’ someone as a smokescreen for sacking them, it’s highly suspicious if they ‘retire’, pack up their desk, and are gone within a matter of hours. Questions will be asked as to why the haste, and clearly Andrea and Rohan (or whoever is above them and made the order) don’t want to attract attention.

So Ted has to be seen to work out a standard notice period. Announcement of his ‘retirement’ plus an immediate (“urgent”? Grin) exit looks too suspicious.

They’ve been trying to get shot of him for yonks, but he clings on like a limpet. Closing down the AC units and pushing him into compulsory retirement is the only way, but if they do it too quickly and boot him out the door the same day it smells very fishy.

I think she always looks like that. Not sure she has a massive range of facial expressions, tbh Grin

Am I being really obtuse or is it likely that the partial match is going to be with someone who is either still alive or only recently departed (otherwise how likely is it that their DNA would be in Farida's house?), unless it's been planted???? Jackie L. and Tommy seem unlikely as they died nigh on a decade ago?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/04/2021 10:01

And therefore would be unlikely to have been in Farida's house? Do we have any idea how long Jo and Farida have been down in England (given that both are supposed to be Scottish?).

It's not that the DNA was in the house, it's that Jo's DNA is a partial patch to theirs, meaning they are related.
AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 12/04/2021 10:03

Jamie was an interesting one. I got the impression he wasn’t bent at first (when Hastings shouted at him for downloading the files, he was wrong as it was Maneet who did it for Hilton) and because he’d been moved to Hilton he’d been manipulated once there?

I agree Chloe did look nervous - really seemed she knew what was coming (but plausibly that could just be because she’s new, was this her first convoy?) and the getting up on the van thing was certainly dodgy - for a second I thought she was going to hit Jonesy’s legs and I also thought there might be an explosion from the van.

Also her blazer in the interview made me think of her private school blazer :o although different colour IIRC. But the age doesn’t work out for her to be Gates’ daughter I thought? And they were saying how when Jo joined, they didn’t do a full analysis of DNA on new coppers, but now they do, so surely it would be known if she’s related to Gates? I think that’s what I heard/understood anyway.

TBH it would be disappointingly obvious if Chloe is bent whether related or not, so I hope she isn’t. And the leak can be assumed to have come from the prison - it’s clear someone in charge there is bent, due to the dodgy guards etc. So I actually really hope that’s not the big story Lakewell was sitting on - it’s not really a twist. If they were hinting at race though that makes it something else.

Watching series 5 again today - I didn’t really enjoy it the first time but I think I’ll get a lot more out of it this time as s1-4 is fresh in my mind.

The person who’s the partial match wasn’t actually ever in Farida’s house. They found Jo’s DNA in there, and when they ran her DNA through all the databases it gave two possible matches: a complete match for her, because it was hers, and a partial match to someone else, a close relative.
stevematekatemate · 12/04/2021 10:04

The OCG have form for planting DNA don’t they? Not sure why they’d plant DNA at Farida’s gaff but that could be plausible. May be whoever is going to be revealed has never been in the house and is completely in associated and unsuspecting.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 12/04/2021 10:05

They didn’t need to plant DNA as it was jo’s that showed a match to this other person, not that the other person had been there

MagicSummer · 12/04/2021 10:08

I may be wrong, but I don't think Jackie Laverty was ever charged or cautioned? I have just watched Series 1 again.

Heyha · 12/04/2021 10:08

It's also got to be from someone that they are confident HASN'T been in the house "the only way" so it has either to be someone dead or definitely locked up. Anyone alive and free would cast doubt on the statement that their DNA is linked ONLY through Jo's being there.
I feel a bit sorry for Buckles. He's clearly been dragged in through visiting the OCG prostitutes, and now look where that's got him. He's far to wet and stupid to be a kingpin or he'd have shown his true colours to Lakewell when Lee Banks turned up.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 12/04/2021 10:09

I've now caught up with the billions of posts on this thread.

I think because Jimmy said he couldn't talk in prison but didn't say he wouldn't talk meant the OCG were on high alert for anything relating to Jimmy happening. Having thought about it some more, if someone is watching AC12 then they could have organised the ambush without a tip off from someone in the police.

Kate was clever when she tipped Jo off about Ryan: she said she saw him outside the restaurant they were at. She didn't let on he is under surveillance or that she knows anything about him.

Both Buckells and Jo know that AC12 know Ryan has a criminal record after their interviews. Ryan will be under pressure himself to do as he's told or the OCG will eliminate him, especially as Terry survived the crash into the lake.

I agree that the DNA link to Jo is someone older and male who we've seen before in at least one prior series.

Heyha · 12/04/2021 10:11

Oh and a PP on one of these threads made the link between Tony Gates and Chloe...I think that's highly plausible. I couldn't work out if it was rookie nerves or existing knowledge of the carnage to come that was making her behave that way in the convoy last night. I think Lakewell might have just been being a bit disrespectful when he called her Chloe in the interview, he'd have already told Steve the key info in the van wouldn't he?
