Steph is really quite persistent with contacting Ted isn't she?
He always seems to have an excuse and tries to either end the conversation ("not on my work phone Steph"); and "I've turned off my mobile as I was in a meeting".
And in a previous episode he couldn't wait to hurry her out the door - "let's go out of here and get a coffee" (or something) - and he seemed both surprised and annoyed she'd turned up at his office.

Even though she gave him the info about Steve - I don't know, she just ain't right. I don't trust her.

storminabuttercup · 06/04/2021 19:25

I don't think Steph is dodgy I think she's kind of latched on to Ted as he was kind to her, Ted is mr paranoid hence the wiping the mucky stuff off his laptop AND Jed likes to plant seeds in our heads to think the 3 of them are bent. They aren't, they conduct themselves to the letter of the law, the letter of the law.

AgentCooper · 06/04/2021 19:58

DH and I have spent the last five weeks binging every series prior to this one and we’re now caught up. I would definitely say watch them all to anyone who hasn’t.

I’ve read a couple of theories today - Kate is actually deep undercover and only Hastings knows, hence the wee nods between them. And Ted gave Steph the money because Corbett was actually HIS SON. DH meanly pointed out that Corbett was meant to be about 8 or 9 when Ted was in his mum’s life but that certainly would be a cracker...

Anyone else hear terry say "ian did it" after not me??

ultragroupie

Me!! Late to this thread but yes I thought this

Not according to subtitles, sadly.

It was (iirc)

"he did it-the other man"

I thought he said “Lee did it” As in, Lee Banks but I dismissed it as Jo and Kate didn’t hear it
GoldRhino · 06/04/2021 20:38

Can someone please remind me of what happened last series? I recall there being suspicions of Ted being H but that’s about it.

Interviewedundercaution · 06/04/2021 21:14

You avin a laff?

Once more for those in the back.

@GoldRhino

Very short summary of S5 below and I’m sure I will have left things out! This is mainly back story for her current series rather than chapter and verse of what happened each episode!

John Corbett is an undercover officer who has infiltrated a criminal gang (OCG). Police are not sure if he’s gone rogue or still working undercover. He was originally from Northern Ireland and his mother, Anne Marie McGillis, was murdered by the IRA (I think) for being an informant. Hastings was in the RUC at the time and “friendly” with Anne Marie. John Corbett was led to by a police lawyer working for the OCG that Hastings was responsible for his mother’s death, so was hell bent on exposing Hastings as corrupt- he influenced Steve that Hastings was “H” the top dog of corrupt officers.

By the end John was murdered by the OCG, Jill was exposed as corrupt, Hastings was vindicated (more or less) but gave £50k of dodgy money (which was given/planted by the OCG to set him up) to John’s widow Steph. It transpired that there was not just one H, but in fact 4 corrupt police officers, one of which has not yet been identified.

Oh and one of the OCG members, Ryan, gets recruited to join the police...

LizzieMacQueen · 06/04/2021 21:54

@banano - the 50k, was that not money Hastings got back from an investment? Can you expand on that as I think that will be an important part of this series storyline.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 06/04/2021 22:07

Can you not just Google what happened in Series 5?

banano · 06/04/2021 22:15

@LizzieMacQueen

If I remember correctly (and I may not because it was quite confusing) he was given £100k as a “repayment” of his bad investment, but this was a cover story to plant dodgy money in his hotel room (by Jill Bigalow/ the OCG) to frame him, as the £100k notes were linked to money used to bribe Lindsay Denton back in S2. But they only recovered £50k of it as he obviously squirrelled the other £50k away to give to Steph.

It was bloody confusing now I think about it...

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 06/04/2021 22:16

@FourWordsImMuNiTy

Mark Moffatt, dodgy ex copper, gave Ted 100K in a brown envelope to frame him for corruption. Ted hid half of it and later gave it to Steph, and Patricia Carmichael’s team found the other half. Nobody apart from MM and the OCG knows that there was ever another 50K - nobody believed MM when he said so at his trial.
Quoting myself to save typing.
Netaporter · 06/04/2021 22:22

To be fair to @diddl the Shrine of Duty podcast suggests that there is info to be gained from both the subtitles and audio description... and info is given away e.g in ep1 s6 the audio description reveals the picture in jo’s flat is of herself and her mum. It is thought Jed signs off on all scripts.

I think it is likely Terry puts an ‘um’ in his answer so some of us hear ‘Liam’

GuyFawkesDay · 06/04/2021 22:29

Oooh I am back on S1, Tony Gates's daughter is called Chloe....

Do we think she's now working in AC-12? There's no surname for the character listed in the cast, which is suspect!!

LizzieMacQueen · 06/04/2021 22:36

Thanks @FourWordsImMuNiTy and @banano for the explanation.

No need to be snarky (if that comment was to me) @IstandwithJackieWeaver - I know MNetters are good at providing info.

CHISistoast · 06/04/2021 22:39

Late to the LOD username party, woohoo. I'm sure the more senior coppers wear uniform, but they have insignia on their uniform to identify their rank. Cressida Dick is only ever I uniform, when on official business anyway.

CHISistoast · 06/04/2021 22:40

@LizzieMacQueen

I think it was to GoldRhino.
IstandwithJackieWeaver · 06/04/2021 22:50

What's snarky about suggesting you google something like that?

YouKnobhead · 06/04/2021 22:54

We bandied this about on one of the previous threads. I think the consensus was that the dates for her age didn't quite match but it's not impossible.
LizzieMacQueen · 06/04/2021 22:54

@IstandwithJackieWeaver

Just sounds a bit rude - sure we can all google things but sometimes it's nice to discuss. Plus googling often throws up spoilers.

MayIDestroyYou · 06/04/2021 23:03

I'd imagine that for reluctantly single and undomesticated Ted uniform is much easier all round (lack of choice, easy, familiar dry cleaning) than having to choose separate items of non-uniform and keep everything suitably maintained.

Perhaps he has proper domestic arrangements now, but it would be a nightmare trying to run a decent working wardrobe from a crappy hotel.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 07/04/2021 01:57

Why is it only when LoD is on, the week drags?
The days & weeks were speeding by until the new series started.

PussyCatEatingEasterEggs · 07/04/2021 04:04

So she has a share in a Hairdressers and works there PT .
Is she money laundering proceeds of OCG crime and thats her involvement?

This plotline has been used in BTL.
