Thought better do new thread. Hope haven’t jumped on anyone’s toes

OP posts:

@longwayoff

I wrenched my lower back muscles on Thursday and have been on a codeine diet, lying flat, since then. OUCH. If there's a hooky £50k in my attic it will have to stay there. How the hell did Steve get into and out of an attic? Kate is heading for a thrown down the stairs scenario. Hope they don't kill her off.
I can only apologise that we've gone pages and yet no-one has asked how your bowels are yet with that codeine Flowers
CheekyWeeShite · 05/04/2021 21:40

Finally managed to watch.

I’m sorry but this codeine plot line is ludicrous. I know someone disagreed on the previous thread and said opiates are no longer prescribed for chronic pain (not true in the least - I’ve been on morphine for over a decade for chronic pain) and at least they addressed that this episode. But his terror at the drug testing seemed a bit daft to me - it’s over the counter codeine, not black market Valium and heroin. Surely even police officers are allowed to take over the counter painkillers? Not that OTC codeine would do bugger all for his pain after any length of time. I also loved the scene where he was in pain but closing the meds cupboard - I reckon you can probably take that ibuprofen, Steve!

Anyway, ooh it’s getting good. Need to catch up on all your comments now as don’t want to repeat. She’s done a reasonable job of seeing Buckells up, even though it was definitely Jo that told him they needed direct surveillance rather than intrusive surveillance, not his decision.

beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 05/04/2021 21:51

As a PP said, I am loving how the last couple of weeks we have had an absolute Ted classic line - this week 'letter of the law, the letter', with a nod to 'Hastings, like the battle' and last week - 'interested in one thing and one thing only.....(I was shouting at the telly - 'Go on! Say it!') - BENT coppers. Next week I'm writing 'now we're sucking diesel' on my bingo card Grin

ChequerBoard · 05/04/2021 21:54

The drug screen will show that Steve has a high level of opiates in his blood.

He's taking way over the recommended dosage on the OTC codeine which will show up as an opiate no different to if he'd been taking an opiate based street drug.

Just because you can buy them OTC doesn't mean you can't get addicted and that the drugs they contain aren't highly dangerous.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 05/04/2021 21:57

Opiate urine screening tests are just yes they are present or no they are not. They can't usually tell you the level or the specific substance. You need a blood test for that.

Interviewedundercaution · 05/04/2021 22:31

Don't think Buckels is squeaky clean but he's hardly a criminal mastermind. More like the OCG's useful idiot.

Mollypolly2610 · 05/04/2021 22:37

Can someone please explain the TimTam thing to me PLEASE

Interviewedundercaution · 05/04/2021 22:41

Me too.

CheekyWeeShite · 05/04/2021 22:42

No, it would say opiate detected - and he could say yes, i took codeine for my back which I bought legally from a chemist. Worse case scenario he would get sent for a blood test or they’d repeat it.

Tolerance to the level of codeine in OTC co-codamol would develop bloody quickly if taken at maximum dose and certainly wouldn’t be doing anything for his back any more. I understand he doesn’t want anyone to know his back is still bad, but if his back was still bad and all he could access was OTC strength co-codamol, he would have been in bed unable to move long before now so that’s a moot point.

Codeine may be addictive but it’s not “highly dangerous” - the amount in an over the counter version is certainly not enough to cause the only real risk of codeine (respiratory arrest) in a healthy person even exceeding the daily dose, unless you’re taking it alongside something that’s contraindicated. The paracetamol with it, however, certainly is dangerous if he’s exceeding the maximum daily dose.

It would make a lot more sense to have Steve sourcing Valium prescriptions dodgily as then he would definitely have something to worry about.

It all just seems really silly to me, very half arsed as a plot line.

I was beginning to convince myself that Buckells would be a great H as he’s been in the thick of it since S1, and he’s so shit that no one suspects. But now he’s been set up so clearly not.
LadyDangerfield · 05/04/2021 22:51

But Buckells being set up could be part of the plan to throw the scent off the OCG. I think it was last week's episode where Jo told Buckells to hold tight if things were to go a certain way. Buckells could be being paid handsomely by the OCG to be the fall guy for them.

PrincessScarlett · 05/04/2021 22:55

So the whole investigation of Jo started because Farida told AC12 she was dodgy. She did this while she was still in a relationship with Jo, Jo finished their relationship after Farida had already reported her. So what does Farida know? I suspect she's not so innocent and there was a reason behind her allegations. It can't be sour grapes as Jo implied because the relationship didn't end first.

shyposter · 05/04/2021 23:11

I was under the impression that the issue with Steve's drug test showing a pair ice result would be the fact that he's on painkillers and therefore not medically fit to work (the whole "work is the only thing I've got left"). I assumed he's frightened to death of being signed off work.

shyposter · 05/04/2021 23:11

"A pair ice" = positive

Sorry I think I missed out that current thinking on chronic pain is that in most cases it isnt considered to be opioid responsive -hence the policy has changed and new patients are rarely started on them and if they are its limited amounts.

This ties in with Steve having a limited amount prescribed per month and seeking more OTC.
I wondered if its to do with firearms ?
Or possibly if you are doing drug busts you dont really want your Police on it?

Thank you!!

CatWithARabbit · 05/04/2021 23:19

Sorry if this has been answered, but how did police find out freezer was in the scrapyard ?

banano · 05/04/2021 23:23

Could the Tim Tam thing be an anagram? MIT is Murder Investigation Team (Jo/ Kate /Buckles) not sure about the Tam bit though? The various acronyms of ATM don’t really add anything.

LaganinaBubble · 05/04/2021 23:23

Thanks to all the PPs who recommended the Shrine of Duty podcast, listened to it today and really enjoyed it!

EugenesAxe · 05/04/2021 23:24

I would so have loved it if he had chosen H, but never mind:

They “got a lucky break” according to Chloe but no proper explanation- especially as the staff at the scrap yard were refusing to talk to the police!

CatWithARabbit · 05/04/2021 23:35

Thank you .. hmmm v lucky break !

Ikeameatballs · 05/04/2021 23:48

I’m suspicious of Chloe. Too good to be true.

And yet then show him being able to scramble up into and around loft spaces. Whilst supposedly in so much pain he’s totally addicted to the aforementioned drugs.

What I can’t recall though, is, what the prescription on the trailer was for. There was definitely one for him hidden in amongst the QR I think.
