Is anyone watching this?
Almost harrowing

Yes, I watched it. Very emotional.

Ikeameatballs · 23/03/2021 22:52

I’m watching it now and came on here to look for a thread.

It’s very sad.

theliverpoolone · 23/03/2021 23:04

Absolutely heartbreaking. I don't think I've ever seen so much fear and pain in someone's eyes as his. There's a thread in the Coronavirus topic giving Kate a lot of criticism for making this, but I think she's remarkable and this really does need to be seen.

purpleme12 · 23/03/2021 23:04

It was really hard watching him saying he doesn't know how he can go it 😞

Such a long time in hospital. 😞

That poor woman. She looks haggard. It's an impossible situation for her now as she has accepted that he will never be her husband as he was when they married. It must be so hard to deal with.

purpleme12 · 23/03/2021 23:08

Yes. Can't even imagine

ismiseeire · 23/03/2021 23:12

I don't in any way question why she made the video/documentary. I guess that her news channel wanted her to and she eventually did. It's a good warning to me of what covid can be. I'm so very sorry for her, but I can see why she did it.

ScienceSensibility · 23/03/2021 23:20

I think the documentary is an appalling breach of Derek Draper’s privacy and dignity.
He is not in any position to give consent for this. She may be married to him, but she doesn’t own his life.
She can talk about her own feelings and loss, whatever. She’s already given several interviews where she has revealed information about his physical condition. I would be fucking livid if my spouse did that.

Is it for money? To keep her in with bosses at ITV? It’s disgraceful and she has gone down in my estimation for doing this.

Losttheequipment · 23/03/2021 23:22

He clearly can consent Hmm

Tigerchips · 23/03/2021 23:34

What channel is it on?

purpleme12 · 23/03/2021 23:37

3

My take away from this was the positive difference in him at the end of the doc compared to the beginning, where it all seemed pretty bleak. I feel hopeful for them. She’s incredibly strong and I wish them well.

Tigerchips · 23/03/2021 23:43

I can't find it Sad

helpingmyself · 23/03/2021 23:50

I found it heartbreaking.. it really made me think after.. Kate is just a normal down to earth mum doing her best to bring her derek back home .. I hope & pray he gets home soon

It's possible that it wasn't aired until they got his consent. From recent footage he is lucid and communicating so maybe they asked him if he was happy for it to be aired.
purpleme12 · 23/03/2021 23:54

I hope it all works out for them too

OP posts:
bonfireheart · 23/03/2021 23:56

I think people unless they've been affected by covid, don't comprehend how over 120000 people have died, storytelling is sometimes the best way to communicate that and good on a celeb at least using their status to tell theirs.

swashbucklin · 23/03/2021 23:59

What an awful situation, it must be so tough, Derek seemed like a shell and the biggest issue was finding his way back to himself. It felt like a huge task, I hope he recovers fully.

GrimDamnFanjo · 24/03/2021 00:14

I used to know Derek really well. He was still active in his former hometown Facebook groups arguing politics till just before he became ill.
I think he'd be completely onboard with sharing his illness. He was always about change and challenge.
I don't know Kate but she's between a rock and hard place here. She's a journalist, it's the biggest news story of our times and she's living with the horror in public. She can't pretend Derek is ok, can't leave her job, her and her kids futures are really uncertain...

purpleme12 · 24/03/2021 00:20

I looked at the other thread and someone said she's self employed..
I thought she'd be employed by ITV?

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 24/03/2021 00:22

Still I do kind of assume that she's got lots of money but well, perhaps not I don't know
I guess if you're self employed you're not paid holidays or anything are you

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 24/03/2021 00:26

But of course the income halved...
It says she couldn't even access the joint savings they had!

This.
GrimDamnFanjo · 24/03/2021 00:31

I don't know but I'd expect that she is self employed through her own company? She has a couple of other contracts.
Derek is a psychotherapist.

480Widdio · 24/03/2021 01:39

She has gone down in my estimation as well.

What a truly dreadful thing to do.
