Desperate Housewives

I started watching The Good Witch on Netflix last night, it stars James Denton who of course played Mike Delfino in DH. I loved DH back in the day (final season was 2012 Shock) - the characters, the dark humour and the body count. Wednesday evenings on C4 (?) were the highlight of my week in the mid noughties Grin

Has anyone found a series as bonkers and gripping as DH? Dead To Me had a similar vibe but apparently there's only going to be one more series Sad

Devious Maids is v similar vibe! I think it’s the same producers?

Bibidy · 23/03/2021 17:38

LOVE Desperate Housewives!

I did really enjoy Scandal, if you haven't seen that?

purrswhileheeats · 23/03/2021 17:43

I tried Scandal a couple of years ago but KW annoyed me so I only managed one episode, is it worth trying again?

I'll have a look for Devious Maids - thanks!

Ah ok. I can't say then, I did really enjoy it and was watching an episode a day on the way to work, got really into it! But I liked KW.

Just go for DH again, I’ve rewatched many times over the years, and funnily enough am part way through S3 again now 🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s quite amazing how you forget and I still find myself going “oooooooh 👀” and having to stay up to watch the next episode 🤣

I realise my post is totally unhelpful

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 23/03/2021 17:54

Closest I can think, off the top of my head, would be How To Get Away With Murder. It's not the same in terms of subject matter, and it's definitely less humorous. But it has that glossy, high-end soapy feel and WTF moments galore.

The Good Wife maybe worth a look as well. Ugly Betty? (Pretty old now.)

I've got seasons 1-5 on dvd (old skool) but it means cranking up my dvd player, I'm not even sure if it still works! Grin

I can't even remember why Mary Alice killed herself and if Carlos ever found out the truth about his mother's death 🤔

Thank you, I'll try HTGAWM!

HTGAWM is ok, a little extra with the drama in the later series but they throw great light on the issue of race and the prison system. The first series is a good ride of twists.

For a lighthearted one I would throughly recommend Jane the Virgin. At first I avoided it as I thought it would be a bit naff but it’s great fun and good amount of drama and mystery told telenovela style in a playful way.

TidyOmlette · 23/03/2021 18:08

Loved DH! Currently rewatching it all again on Disney+.

fluffyugg · 23/03/2021 19:06

I loved DH so much too! Remember the MAVOs at the end? (Mary Alive Voice Overs) 😄

AcornAutumn · 23/03/2021 19:18

Ah, Desperate Housewives, fantastic television and characters.

Devious Maids doesn't have any depth but it is funny.

I still remember Susan's painting, which was fab. And her horrible art teacher.

Chottie · 23/03/2021 19:21

I loved DH too :)

My favourite episode was the Christmas Fair in Wisteria Lane, it was so over the top and then a plane crashed and ruined everything......

I don't remember that at all. Will rewatch at some point.
ElderMillennial · 23/03/2021 19:32

I watched DH all the way thorough quite recently. It was really good.

Not sure what is similar but recently I have enjoyed

Pretty Little Liars
Behind Her eyes
Tiny pretty things
Glee
Cheat

And quite a few of the Netflix original series

whoami24601 · 23/03/2021 19:52

I never watched desperate housewives but I did enjoy a series called 'revenge' which was on channel 4 a few years ago. A posher Dawson's creek with murder galore 😁

Yesbutno · 23/03/2021 19:56

Yes Revenge was bonkers but great! I came on to say HTGAWM but now I'm saying Revenge too!

purrswhileheeats · 23/03/2021 19:59

It was truly brilliant. There's so much of it I can't remember but I loved the way they kept introducing sinister characters in the last episode of a series. Bree had a few wrong 'uns didn't she? Shock

(1) That was the whole point of series one!
(2) yes

I nearly started a thread about DH last night so glad I spotted this thread! I never watched it at the time but we've spent lockdown watching all 8 series on Prime and finally finished it last night.

It was the perfect mix of drama (with plenty of OTT story lines thrown in Grin), humour and a bit of sadness here and there.

DP didn't like the ending but I thought it was nice how it came back full circle and they all left the lane, as soon as Susan announced she was leaving I guessed that everyone else would follow as it wouldn't have been right some of them staying on the lane. I do feel that they have left it open to re start it all over again with a new cast but I think it's best being left where it is (despite constantly saying up until the final episode where it was clear the original cast won't come back that I hoped they would make a reunion series soon).

Mary Alice killed herself because of the note she received about their secret, which was that they had killed Zach's biological mum.

Orpheline · 24/03/2021 07:07

You'll probably like 'Why Women Kill', also by Marc Cherry.

I forgotten about that one! Really enjoyed it.

Due to this thread I’ve started rewatching DH so I’m getting nothing done at home. I’m blaming you.

ChessieFL · 24/03/2021 09:37

I love Desperate Housewives, rewatched it all again last year. Gabby was my favourite - completely outrageous and not ashamed of it!

youngestisapsycho · 24/03/2021 11:49

Revenge and Jane the Virgin are great... Loved DH... just recently rewatched it all.
