Last Night Spooks

Am I alone in thinking Spooks has totally lost the plot and is completely lacking in any coherence or logic now? None of it now makes any sense, and the whole Roz & the Iranian ambassador's wife thing with Adam is just ridiculous.

Harrumph! Bring back Ruth!

scamp - know what you mean - surely they should have picked up from that drowning scene. plus - not sure I would have put Ros and RP-J together????

tigerschick · 03/11/2007 19:20

Scamp - at the end of the last serise you saw, for a split second, them escaping. BUT I totally agree about them not referring to it. At the end of the serise before last we left Adam and Harry coughing up blood after being shot on the steps of Thames House ... last serise opens with no reference to it at all - I guess that is just the way they do it

lailasmum · 04/11/2007 08:43

it is so annoying when they don't finish off their story lines, I was totally expecting this series to start at that point in the thames barrier. And the couple of slight references to ruth in this series are a bit annoying, would be nice if they just tied up storylines occasionally.

ChipButty · 04/11/2007 09:09

Tigerschick - the shooting on the steps of Thames House was referred to: Adam was in hospital at the beginning of Series 5, having surgery on his (well honed and toned) chest. However, he did make a speedy recovery and was back at work very quickly!

I miss Ruth too. I've got a feeling that Harry may decide to hang up his black overcoat one day soon and go off and find her. Remember what he said to Connie when she asked if he had remarried? He couldn't find a ring to fit - he had a wistful look in his eyes as if he were remembering Ruth.

The next episode is VG: It gives us clues as to how things could so easily unravel...

BTW R P-J will only be in a few episodes next season: His star is ascending and he has his eyes on Hollywood, unfortunately.

tigerschick · 04/11/2007 12:39

Ah yes, Chipbutty, I remember now! As you say, he made a very swift recovery ... but it was referred to. Sorry.

ChipButty · 04/11/2007 15:41

Don't worry. BTW look out for Rupert Penry-Jones in Poliakoff's Joe's Palace tonight on BBC1, 9pm.

scampadoodle · 04/11/2007 19:20

Yeah, but you have to sit through 2 hours of Stephen effing Poliakoff

Zebedeedoodah · 05/11/2007 13:11

I'm with you Scamp, I couldn't face 2 hours of it either. Not after last year's over-hyped, disappointing dross.

But thanks you guys for clearing up a few things. I'm glad I'm not alone in being confused and disappointed. 'Group dynamic' is bang on with what's wrong with this new series.

One last question - how come Harry & the Yank were friends again, or at least on speaking terms, after Harry had tortured him the previous week?

OP posts:
scampadoodle · 05/11/2007 13:15

You do wonder if anyone from the Beeb ever reads these threads!

re Harry & the Yank: I thought that too! (Group dynamic again) Maybe in SpyWorld you're a bit pissed off at first (like if someone prangs your car in Real Life), you have a bit of a sulk & then you're on speakers again

Zebedeedoodah · 05/11/2007 13:34

Yeah, but the head of MI5 hacking off the head of the CIA (or whatever) surely would have created a 'diplomatic incident'. But what do I know?

OP posts:
scampadoodle · 05/11/2007 13:38

Do you remember the CIA in the first couple of series (with the impossibly thin American woman agent)? They behaved really badly. Didn't Tom have an affair with her?

Zebedeedoodah · 05/11/2007 13:54

Oh yes. But at least that was believable...just.

Harry wad on GMTV this morning and said we should be worried about Zaf (oh no emoticon) but should wait and see about Ruth! (ooh er emoticon). Very excited now!

choufleur · 05/11/2007 18:59

oohh hope ruth comes back - i liked her character. i think spooks is like any longish running serial - they all seem to lose teh plot after a certain period of time. i still enjoy it though and particularly like rupert. got quite excited the other week as he was doing the bedtime story on cbeebies (is that sad? )

scampadoodle · 05/11/2007 19:27

Oo-er indeed, Nutella!!

Can I commit heresy here (does one 'commit' heresy? Anyway.) I don't fancy RP-J There. Said it.

choufleur · 05/11/2007 19:39

OMG . Who do you fancy then scampadoodle if very sexy (IMO) blondes don't do it for you? I did like matthew (whatever his real name was) as well so i'm probably not that fussy

ChipButty · 05/11/2007 20:53

Choufleur - there's a place in my private fantasy world for Rupert and Matthew too. As a spy, I think Matthew was hotter even than Rupert!

Re: Poliakoff - I just didn't get it! I thought I was quite intelligent but I just couldn't figure out what the point of it all was. However, RP-J did look ravishing...

Ilovenutella · 05/11/2007 21:01

Scamp - noooooooooooooo - how can RP-J not put fire in your loins? Am personally getting a little worried about my fixation - fortunately I haven't taken to talking about him in my sleep yet (well DH hasn't mentioned anything!)..... but I'd certainly put him up there with Jonny Wilkinson!

GunpowderDragonsAndSoup · 05/11/2007 21:23

R P-J read the stories on CBeebies Bedtime Hour a couple of weeks ago...

scampadoodle · 05/11/2007 22:21

I don't generally go for blondes. Matthew was more my type. Also (as I've said in another thread) I once met RP-J's former girlfriend - the one he dumped as soon as the parts came rolling in - so I wasn't endeared to him really. I can see he's good-looking & why everyone fancies him, but not for me. Toby Stephens however...now you're talking...

MrsJohnCusack · 05/11/2007 23:47

Toby Stephens - YUM
he was a fab Mr ROchester. I was very pregnant when we watched Jane Eyre here and he made me come over all unneccesary

UnquietDad · 06/11/2007 10:51

I like the fact that it has an ongoing arc now, and I love Miranda Raison's sexy new haircut! With her blonde tresses she was a pretty girl, but with her spiky look she is a feisty hot WOMAN.

Ilovenutella · 06/11/2007 14:39

What has Toby Stephens done - who is he?

tigerschick · 06/11/2007 14:59

Ilovenutella - here is Toby Stephens' biography and here he is as Mr Rochester

Ilovenutella · 06/11/2007 19:12

ohhhhh that's Toby Stephens - he was a baddie in a Bond movie - he's Maggie Smith's son isn't he. Yup...quite agree he is quite moreish too!
