Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday

Anyone watching on Five?

I am feeling really sorry for the Poor family. Single mum of three and her mum who looks after the DS with ASD.
They’ve sent them Germany to live in a tree house. No sun, no sand, no palm trees. So far they’ve had a petting zoo experience and an indoor water park, which lets face it is probably what they save up for in the Uk.

Rich family are nice. They seem to appreciate just how good having money is.

I watched this week and thought it boring too. It's better when there are kids

I thought the premise is that they get to experience a holiday the opposite family chose or regularly go on.

No way in a thousand years those two single and fun loving women go camping in a field with nothing around. They kept talking about it the fun they found in an Irish pub. Could have at least sent them to a holiday park or somewhere near a pub

Secondly, one of the men said, we hope the ladies are having fun, whenever they are. Weren't they supposed to have chosen the Portuguese resort for them?

Silly show

Has anyone watched the latest one?
I'm sure the "poor" holidays are becoming more and more unrealistic.

They should swap like for like family wise so both families with small children, or both a couple of adults with no kids. Or they aren't really comparable.

I'm watching the one where the poor family go to Turkey and the rich women go to Tenerife. The ones in Tenerife are OK with it, but the poor kids just seem to want pizza and won't eat the local cuisine.

rooarsome · 18/02/2021 21:14

I agree @WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo! They really should be comparable to the holidays which are usually taken, otherwise what's the point?

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 18/02/2021 21:20

That's the one I just watched @tillytoodles1. I couldn't afford a holiday to Teneriefe so it's not what I'd call a "poor" holiday. And I find it highly unlikely that the "poor" family usually do that for their holiday. Mind you the cost of uk holidays is insane at the moment and I can't afford those either Grin

@rooarsome exactly. I preferred holiday showdown. At least that was their usual holidays not something made up for the wow/shock factor.

By trying to do 'something different', I think they've ruined the show. When you could see a genuinely poor family enjoying luxury - glam hotel/safari etc. it was so much better. Trying to encourage teenagers to enjoy tasting menus is - in most cases - always going to be a problem, nomatter whether rich or poor. They've just moved from the original concept of a genuine swap, to try and make it more challenging.

I do love how many of the wealthy families gain something from the experience though, particularly the children.

The poor holidays seem really unrealistic this year.
The one with the businessman in a tent with just 3 ducks for company.
And the volunteering on a farm one were just crap, that's no ones idea of a holiday.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 25/02/2021 19:08

The poor holidays were stupid. They were either more than a lot of families can afford ( a 'girls' holiday in Teneriefe) or not a bloody holiday. Volunteering on a farm is harder work than being at home!
I wonder if the poor family on the last episode didn't have passports and therefore didn't go abroad like the rich family usually did.

My teens want to apply so we can have a 'rich' holiday Grin
