Happy Valley or Marcella or ?

I've just binge watched Bancroft, and The Bay and loved them both. Happy Valley has been on my watch list for ages but I don't know what to watch first. Searching has led me to Marcella so I'm debating those two for tonight but I'm open to suggestions.

So far I've watched:
Vera
Morse/Endeavour/Lewis
Shetland
The Loch
Broadchurch (only 2 episodes as I googled the show and sadly got spoilers Sad) and I wasn't keen on the details of it all. I struggle with anything involving children, especially young children.
Thingy and Dobbs or was it Dodds?
Unforgotten (only about 3 episodes so far)

Anything else that I've missed?

Happy Valley is great. I thought Marcella was a bit meh tbh

nicslackey · 31/01/2021 21:14

Have you watched Scott and Bailey? Love that, Inspector George Gently also very good.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 31/01/2021 21:15

George is one of my favourites. I was so sad to get to the end of the final series. I was upset for a couple of days!

Ooh yes Scott and Bailey, I'd forgotten about that one. I saw a couple of episodes years ago and liked it.

Happy Valley is excellent. Marcella is shit.

Childrenofthestones · 31/01/2021 21:21

Hidden
Gritty Welsh murder/detective series in the iplayer.
High recommended.

Happy Valley is excellent. Marcella is shit.
Agreed, spot on.
FlatteredRhubardFool · 31/01/2021 21:50

^^ This

Only saw one episode midseries of Marcella (dd was binge watching it and I joined her). Probably not fair to judge on that basis but it seemed pretty rubbish.

Happy Valley is brilliant.

cariadlet · 01/02/2021 20:40

Have you seen Unforgotten? (Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar). I missed it when it was first on so binge watched it. I'd really recommend it. Not as good as Happy Valley but still well worth watching.

thecognoscenti · 01/02/2021 20:41

Happy Valley and Unforgotten are both superb, particularly HV. Really very good and quite underrated I think.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 01/02/2021 23:07

Loving S&B but my word their personal lives Confused wtf is Rachel thinking?? The theme tune is rather quirky. Like some70s type thing that a group of kids made up in a music lesson.

You've made me want to watch Scott and Bailey again, Andy is Janet's husband in real life

FlatteredRhubardFool · 03/02/2021 09:33

I didn't know that Smile I started season 2 last night and was surprised by how gaunt Rachel looks. All through season 1 I was thinking how good it was to see an actress with curves and thought she looked amazing. Wholesome and looked healthy if you ignored the smoking and drinking Grin Now she's all cheekbones and collar bones. The episodes are pretty shocking in places but make me laugh too. Gill is so funny. I love her personality.

How do I find Happy Valley? I watched one episode some time ago and quite enjoyed it

I am watching all sorts of things I wouldn't usually watch just to pass the time whilst on furlough, even binge watched CTM! Enjoyed the Bay. Cardinal is good too. Recommend The Americans, Homeland.

My elderly parents are so bored they are even watching the BBC school programmes Grin - not bad at 88. & 90!

Funkyslippers · 03/02/2021 09:43

I love Happy Valley! Pretty sure I saw it on iplayer a few years ago

Flackattack · 03/02/2021 09:48

Happy valley is amazing - one of the best tv shows in a long time!!! I really enjoyed Marcella - great escapism.
Luther?
The stranger - on Netflix.
I’m recording (how old am I?) the drowning on channel 5.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/02/2021 10:25

Happy Valley is brilliant. I watched when it was originally on then binge watched during first lockdown.

Last Tango in Halifax is easy watching.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 03/02/2021 10:29

HV is on britbox. It's next on my list.

No Offence on Channel 4 is really good, fast action, good characters, and some very funny bits. Cardinal (made in Canada) is on BBC Iplayer, it's dark, suspenceful (is that a word), and has good story line. If you don't mind subtitles, Lupin is on Netflix, watch the first episode see if you like it, it's based on an old fashion book character (think Miss Marple) but sexier, with a modern twist, with funny bits and good action.

midsomermurderess · 03/02/2021 11:17

No Offence is really good. Super ensemble cast, cop show, set in Manchester. Some of it is bloody grisly but there is a strong gallows humour threading through it. I'm not sure where it's currently on though.
