I haven't seen the exact one but have seen similar. I think once a person gets to a certain weight, it gets more difficult/uncomfortable to be active, or maybe they reduce outings for fear of judgement. I'm overweight and restrict my exercise type due to my weight! ( I wouldn't run in daylight for example!)

cosmopolitanplease · 21/01/2021 10:01

I think AJ will be unsuccessful in losing weight long term until she has enough therapy to enable her to face up to and discuss her feelings and past. At the moment she is eating her feelings, and pinning all her hopes on surgeries (gender reassignment and gastric band) that she thinks will make everything better as if by magic. She also needs to move out as soon as she can and gain some independence and take responsibility for her own food purchasing and cooking.

I felt sad for her as she is obviously a deeply troubled soul. Her living conditions were quite depressing.

purpleme12 · 21/01/2021 10:20

Yes very troubled
And very depressing

Watching AJ, vey, very sad. Do wish AJ all the best.

Italiangreyhound · 26/01/2021 01:04

That psychologist is good! She's hit the nail on the head with so many things. The doctor was good, when he told the mum about the situation it was very moving and sad. But it needed to be said.

Watching AJ start eating more normally, especially on the liver shrinking diet, very good. That does take determination. How encouraging to see it.

I think AJ has come such a long way.

So moving to see AJ talking about wanting a relationship.

It is a testament to human determination that AJ is doing this.

Fizbosshoes · 27/01/2021 00:09

I just watched part 2 of the programme about AJ.
I didn't see part 1 so unsure what had made her and her mum so dependent on each other (or why they both needed to sleep downstairs when it seemed there were bedrooms upstairs - although I guess when she was 41st maybe mobility was the issue)
The ending seemed very positive though. I hope she continues with the driving lessons and becoming independent. I did feel quite sad though that when she was taking her dog for a walk (a seemingly mundane thing) she said she couldn't have imagined doing that a year ago.

AKissAndASmile · 27/01/2021 00:19

AJ is not a he!

Fizbosshoes · 27/01/2021 00:34

I refered to Aj as she (and I noticed her mum, Sharon did too) but DD corrected me and said they.

I think AJ wants to be called they/them but mum kept saying she, I wrongly thought AJ was a man to begin with. Such a problematic relationship. I can’t believe Samantha lost 15 stone before, it does go to show you have to be physiologically ready for the change but she did so we in getting herself ready for the operation.

purpleme12 · 02/02/2021 19:11

Yes it was certainly an interesting relationship between AJ and her mum
I wouldn't know how to begin describing it really!

Fembot123 · 02/02/2021 19:18

Co dependent but with a dash of control from mum 😁

NoKingDingaLingTitsInAbsentia · 02/02/2021 20:18

Am watching the first episode and can't help but feel angry when mum said if they don't get surgery they don't know what they'll do, they think it will be the end. Oh wait, how about you start to make better choices for them? One of the meals was a couple of pies, potato smiley faces and peas which AJ didn't seem ecstatic about.

addicted2spaniels · 02/02/2021 20:23

I watch an american series called My 600lb life, and behind all of these seriously obese people is a "feeder".

Once someone gets to the extent that they can't cook/feed themselves, there is sadly always a willing supplier of even more crap, that seems oblivious to the harm they're doing under the guise of love.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 02/02/2021 20:28
