Two of my favourite things are Schnauzers and Canada so I’m biased in favour of Sal though I do like Jodie very much too.

knittingaddict · 16/02/2021 12:22

@Chrysanthemum5

How do you know how Rose identifies?
My eyes, my common sense and google just to check.
knittingaddict · 16/02/2021 12:29

I think this week showed how the time constraints can be a problem. It would have been so much better to take as long as necessary to get a decent finished object. It's the backroom that needs more time, rather than the potters.

My guess at a winner would be Jodie, Sal or Adam. For pure experience and great finished objects I would like Sal to win. I like Alon a lot, but he may take one risk too many in future weeks. I hope not though. I really like Adam's personality. He's quite calm, competent and just gets on with it. I'm loving this series.

TheSpottedZebra · 16/02/2021 12:52

@MrsDoctorDear

I want Sal to win just for the Charlie dogs 🐾
They were really so, so good.

I like them all really, but the front runners have to be Sal, Alon and Jodie.

I wish they'd explained a bit more about the terracotta- why were they mostly cracked, how often does it happen.

IntermittentParps · 16/02/2021 14:08

I imagined it was a chicken brique. Is that not a word?

I think it's a travesty that Shenyue went. Henry's tiles and cookset were both poor, I thought (hate those amateurish tattoos) and overall she's a lot better than him. She's funny and witty too, whereas I find him teenagerish and bolshy.

Peter was very sweet helping Shenyue take her stuff to dry.

Sal's set was awesome. I'd buy it. I loved her tiles as well, and Jodie's tiles. I'm liking Jodie more and more, actually; she's a grafter and tries her best without moaning, and she visibly lights up when she gets a challenge and an idea that she really likes.

I think Sal for the win, although Adam is the dark horse, and if Alon stays in and then has a great day in the final and his risks pay off, he may win.

knittingaddict · 16/02/2021 15:18

I think Shenyue annoyed them slightly because they were told to do each item in their set in a particular order and then put it in the drying room straight away. She didn't do that, for no good reason. Since her pieces were the worst for breakage I assume they had a good reason for wanting the potters to do that. Also her design looked great on paper, but it was executed very poorly and looked a bit of an amateur mess.

It seemed to be very close though and either of them could have gone.

LaChatte · 16/02/2021 17:30

My eyes and ears told me male, I'm not about to go and google every single person I talk about (haven't done it for any of the others on the show). Just thought they were a cool young man with nice hair and steampunkish style clothes. Several boys dress like that in my DS's school (art school in France).

Anyway, back to pottery, I'm not sure if Henry was worse or not, I definitely thought the editing was done to try and make him look better than Shenyu, with all the focus on the drying room comments to make it seem like her fault that it all exploded.

SoupDragon · 16/02/2021 18:14

My eyes and ears told me male

Called Rose and wearing a skirt. Right.

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/02/2021 18:27

I don't want to derail the thread away from the brilliance of the throw down but why can't a male wear a skirt and be called Rose and still be male? It really feels like we are all going backwards towards strict stereotypes

LaChatte · 16/02/2021 18:30

I obviously live a very sheltered life, maybe things are different here. Rose, as in the flower is feminin, but the colour is masculin so both are plausible.

knittingaddict · 16/02/2021 18:32

This conversation is ridiculous. I can only assume that some people are being deliberately disingenuous here. It is pretty clear that Rose wants to identify as a she, so can't we just respect that and use her chosen pronoun. Does it hurt anyone to do that?

knittingaddict · 16/02/2021 18:33

Seriously LaChatte? Rose is and has always been a name for a woman. Confused

knittingaddict · 16/02/2021 18:35

Let's clear this up, once and for all, shall we.

LaChatte · 16/02/2021 18:40

Yes seriously. Not clicking on links thanks, I'm just here to discuss the show.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/02/2021 20:21

Can we not fall out over Rose?

S/he's a biological bloke but identifies as a woman. If I was speaking to him/her I'd use feminine pronouns out of courtesy, but on a thread like this I can't see why it matters what s/he is called.

However one comment I will make is that Rose has the most beautiful complexion I've ever seen, and as an acne-scarred, wrinkly ole trout I am consumed with envy.

SimonJT · 16/02/2021 20:26

Correcting someone is not rude, calling Rose a bloke, him and he is rude.

Sunbird24 · 16/02/2021 20:28

Agreed Schadey, Rose has beautiful skin, I am also very jealous!

LaChatte · 16/02/2021 21:00

So yes, as I was saying, Rose must feel awful as it's their job to do all the drying, kiln loading and firing, which they clearly can't do properly because they must have the producers telling them they have to just do it whether it's ready or not.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 16/02/2021 21:03

Bake to the ole bake off pressure cooker thing. Get the contestants to feck up or crack under the pressure pots an all.

It is a pretty shit thing to do to Rose - they can’t do their ‘job’ properly if the producers aren’t allowing the potters to do their job properly.

Shite really.

Roussette · 16/02/2021 21:10

Was it a loaded remark when Keith asked Shenyu why she didnt want to put her pot in the drying room? Was it making a point that they were all going to fall apart?

(p.s. I'm bored in lockdown, I'm watching too much crime and stuff on Netflix, so I am probably looking for something that isn't there!)

LaChatte · 16/02/2021 22:14

I think the judges must have known it was going to be tight with regards to drying time, hence them insisting on using the drying room as much as possible. I guess they made a big deal of it in editing which would have made sense if it had only been her pieces that exploded.

GoofyIsACow · 16/02/2021 22:15

@Roussette yes i thought so, i did also think it was really odd how much they focussed on the drying room stuff with her. It was also odd she said it was too far away!
It was all odd!

Roussette · 17/02/2021 08:00

Most odd. Did think it wasn't the best episode last week. Anyone know what next week's challenges are?

It's been a highlight for me, love these sort of series... painting, cooking and Sewing Bee, all things I'm useless at!

Chemenger · 17/02/2021 08:40

Next week it is water features.
For those who like this sort of programme the BBC has the Interior Design Challenge (can’t remember the exact name). Highlight of episode 1 is the judge saying “Frankly I think you’re a bit lazy” to one contestant who is, indeed, a bit lazy and also petulant (or is edited to look that way). Fun times.

Roussette · 17/02/2021 08:44

Water features! That's where the water spurts out of holes they didn't know existed!

I remember them doing toilets one series... same sort of thing!

Will go and look at the Interior Design Challenge!
