I'd say Lee is going home

Roussette · 07/02/2021 20:53

First Ozzy is great!

SoupDragon · 07/02/2021 20:53

Well, one Ozzy was very good!

SoupDragon · 07/02/2021 20:54

Tom Jones is pretty good

Roussette · 07/02/2021 20:55

Wow Bruce is gooooood

Wolfcub · 07/02/2021 20:55

I think Alon is bound to be potter of the week

SimonJT · 07/02/2021 20:55

I like how Alon has done his hair to match his bust.

Sunbird24 · 07/02/2021 20:56

Lee & Henry are bottom 2 for me this week

SoupDragon · 07/02/2021 20:56

The first Dolly looks like Avatar

Wolfcub · 07/02/2021 20:56

No surprises there

SimonJT · 07/02/2021 20:57

Poor Lee, it must be harder leaving when you’re all living together.

SoupDragon · 07/02/2021 20:57

Was Alon's the only one to survive the kiln?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/02/2021 20:58

@SimonJT

It’s okay, I’ve got one finger in the handle and the others underneath, I have big hands, it might be awkward for small hands.
I have tiny hands.

Creepily tiny . . .

imnottoofussed · 07/02/2021 20:59

Once again Keith crying about Jodies work clearly has a crush of some sort on her. It didn't look like Shirley Confused

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/02/2021 20:59

Oh what shame - I love Lee.

The right one got Potter of the Week this week.

Cocolapew · 07/02/2021 21:07

It was a shame about Hannahs Dolly, it was really good.

weaselwords · 08/02/2021 09:28

Alon can be brilliant but I'm always waiting for him to fuck it up. He's still my favourite Potter so far though. Good to see him get Potter of the week.

Stonehopper · 08/02/2021 09:37

I thought that was a poor episode -- it felt like the producers were desperately trying to ring the changes, rather like GBBO doing slightly mad themed weeks, when I really don't think it's necessary in either show. They're potters, and even if some of them handbuild for preference rather than throw on the wheel, they're not portrait sculptors. What I like every week is watching them produce, or try to produce, something beautiful, not amateurish-looking busts of Dolly Parton and Tom Jones.

Whereas last week, with the naked raku, virtually everything even the less successful pots was quite beautiful.

SoupDragon · 08/02/2021 10:08

I think they are just trying to cover all skill sets.

knittingaddict · 08/02/2021 12:00

I don't think it was a poor episode at all. In previous years they've done nude sculpture and other tasks which test the potters ability to reproduce something that's in front of them. Some potters are more able to do this than others, but surely the ultimate winner needs to be tested in all areas of the craft. Also some of the potters exceeded their own expectations which was great to see.

Furbylicious · 08/02/2021 13:15

It wasn't my favourite either, partly because of the life-like sculpture element- I'd have preferred it if they let them do realistic/chariacature/conceptual etc according to their skill set

But mostly because most of them were damaged! Would someone more knowledgeable than me know if that was to do with drying time? I think if it's incredibly hard to do in the time and most of them fail, it's not a fun challenge to watch! (A bit like GBBO technicals).

I also thought it was odd that they'd clearly chosen from a pre agreed list of musical icons but there wasn't an explanation of why!

I still enjoyed it though! Perfect Sunday night viewing.

I think the it was the right potter of the week and person leaving. Sal to win!

cungryhow · 08/02/2021 13:21

I didn’t think Tom Jones was much cop to begin with by come the end it really captured him, well, apart from the Dr Spock ears on it. Loved Hannah’s Dolly, Shame Lee’s ended up so abstract!

Agree - but I suppose it's hard to think of challenges.

But I do prefer to see the different techniques.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 08/02/2021 17:18

Sad to see the back of Lee.

For what it is worth darlin, it was exactly like me first thing in the morning...

Alon did brilliant.

I would be struggling with plasticine to make anyone recognisable. Apart from Morph.

LaChatte · 08/02/2021 20:14

Several reasons the pieces will have exploded in the kiln. Mainly, during the construction, if you're adding clay on, you have to be careful not to leave air bubbles as they trap moisture which has nowhere to go when it evaporates with the heat of the firing. It's less of a problem if the pieces have ages to dry. Seeing as the potters only had 6 hours (I've only ever made a bust once, it took me about 8 hours and it wasn't based on anyone in particular), they had to rush things, never a good thing in ceramics.

On a positive note, at least he kiln Gods should be satisfied with the sacrifices this week, meaning everything will be perfect next week!
