I quite enjoyed it - it's been a shit year so a depressing Coronation Street would have been too much to handle. I quite liked David and Shona as thought he was quite funny! Thought Yasmeen was great and hope she gets the help she needs.

I gave up a few years ago after watching for more than thirty years but watched last nights episode as I was at someone's house and this person is an avid fan. My God it was so boring. I remember the Christmas Day episodes from years ago, they were usually exciting and emotional and had characters you cared about.

It's like Sarah Lancashire said a few years ago when she was asked if she'd ever return to Corrie: "The show I was in doesn’t exist any more".

Deadringer · 27/12/2020 00:34

I am so sick of Shona, her 'acting' like a giant 2 year old is wearing thin.

Honeyroar · 27/12/2020 00:37

I know what Sarah Lancashire is saying, but she’s the biggest snob when it comes to her past.

Me too @Deadringer
She is beyond annoying.

eggandonion · 27/12/2020 10:23

Shona needs a sudden shock, like when one has hiccups. And a moment of realisation.

desperatehousewife21 · 27/12/2020 10:33

It was only ok, more of a Xmas eve or New Year’s Day type episode, didn’t have enough good content for Xmas day. Only bits that were good were Yasmeen’s scenes.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 27/12/2020 10:53

The problem with the Shona storyline is that it started out as a novel way to deal with maternity leave - certainly more original than the standard sick relative - but the writers seemingly forgot that they’d have to finish it somehow.

The same goes for Gemma and Chesney having quads. A multiple birth and the issues it brings was a novelty at first, but how are the writers going to manage a family with four children of the same age long-term? There are only so many stories you can do with young children anyway. It’s going to be painful eking said stories out four ways.

When David was talking Shona through the ceremony, she could have chipped in with something she remembered, then gradually she would remember more as time went on. But I suppose she will just have another bang on the head and it'll all come back.

Optimistlestoe1 · 27/12/2020 11:23

David didn't seem to realise that Shona remembering it was his birthday was a good sign, did he?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/12/2020 11:30

I was dreading Shona going out and buying David another real life rabbit to replace his beloved Barney ( 'cos pets aren't presentsand rabbits cannot live in a sinkhole !)

Honeyroar · 27/12/2020 11:31

I was very disappointed that Gemma didn’t tell Toyah to simply leave the baby in the upstairs bedroom 24/7 to stop it crying- that’s what she does with hers, we never see them!

Thesearmsofmine · 27/12/2020 13:46

I don’t understand where the writers planned you go with the Shona story, surely they must plan long term when they come up with storylines but this has dragged on and just doesn’t work. Either she has a shock(falling into the sinkhole would have worked) and goes back to normal or they break up and she leaves. I like David and he has some funny lines

I think it is good that they are showing that Yasmeen is struggling. So often storylines end and the character just acts like nothing has happened.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 27/12/2020 13:48

Agree about Yasmeen. They did go a bit bonkers with that storyline at the climax but I’m glad they’re being realistic with the aftermath. When she was planning her lovely dinner and then realised she had no money Sad

JamieLeesCurtains · 27/12/2020 13:57

The quads story is barking.

It's all very well (and easy) to show a few babies / dollies in cots for a while, but what are they planning to do when they grow up a bit? Have four walking talking looky-likey robots?

eddiemairswife · 27/12/2020 14:34

We'll never see all 4 together. When they are older they will always be upstairs playing in the bedroom.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 27/12/2020 14:40

They’ll be like Tracy upstairs playing her tayyypes

JamieLeesCurtains · 27/12/2020 15:08

I suppose when the quads emerge from their room to go to Bessie Street someone will remark, 'They don't really look much alike, do they?' and that will be that.

Although they will probably act alike gurning badly because they'll all be from that ghastly stage school that supplies all the child actors to Corrie.

JoanWilderbeast · 27/12/2020 21:07

This randomly occurred to me: how about them building the yuppie flats and then having two soaps, old Corrie and a new Hollyoaks style one. They will still run M, W & F but with the 7.30 one being Corrie and the 8.30 one being the Hollyoaks style one? Two different soaps requiring 1 and a half hours drama each per week, not 3hrs (ffs) for one. Copyright:JW ;)

JamieLeesCurtains · 27/12/2020 21:14

Only if Gemma's gob isn't in either.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 27/12/2020 22:06

Like a Corrie spin off! Like eastenders did with the E20 (I think) show.

PoloNeckKnickers · 27/12/2020 22:10

Just caught up. I thought the David/Shona stuff was quite entertaining. I am obviously easily pleased!

Oh yes you are!! Grin

Has anyone heard Gemma in real life, or seen her in anything else? Just wondering if she does have potential for a decent part away from Corrie.

I'd love for her in RL to sound like Joanna Lumley.
