It's been such a strange year for us all but never more so than for the people of the dales, what will Christmas and the New Year episodes bring...........some lighthearted relief I hope but probably not.

Her and Jai are actually the same age in real life!

RaraRachael · 22/12/2020 08:46

Did Manpreet play Mad Maya in Corrie who met a sticky end in a red car as I remember?

StillCoughingandLaughing · 22/12/2020 09:13

Nope - she was Nita Desai from the original Desai family, who bought the Corner Shop off Fred Elliot. Her dad had to go off to India to look after a sick relative (in real life the actor got pissed and abusive on a train and got the sack), so he sold the shop to cousin Dev. If you’re watching the classic episodes on ITV3, I think they arrive in about six months.

RaraRachael · 22/12/2020 11:22

Ah, thanks for that. I remember Jai as Vikram - we still call him that in our family - but can't remember his sister.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 22/12/2020 18:30

She wasn’t exactly overburdened with storylines as I recall.

JaneJeffer · 23/12/2020 10:31

In case you miss any of the riveting stories...

Was it just me or was last night's episode very rambling and hard to follow? I was very tired.

I couldn't understand the bit at the end with Kim and Mackenzie suddenly being in cahoots. And are they stealing freight from Jimmy? That's not on!

Jojoanna · 23/12/2020 12:20

I couldn’t make any sense of it ? Mind you I think I dozed off

ellenanora5 · 23/12/2020 12:31

No it wasn't just you JaneJeffer

I went back over my planner to see had I missed an episode because I couldn't remember Kim and Mac making a deal over the shoes (shoes of all things for god sake)

I think we can all guess that Liv and her driving lessons won't go to plan.

Who is Al playing around with it.

How many more times is Ellis going to get the wrong of the end of stick.

On what planet would Kim Tate be interested in sharing a cut of stolen shoes? Hmm that would be peanuts to her. She wouldn’t even consider it.

Jojoanna · 23/12/2020 21:53

I’m bored of the Moira Mackenzie story line ,

YouBoughtMeAWall · 23/12/2020 22:09

I’ve been watching every night and I’ve sat here tonight thinking which story am I actually engaged with? Not a single one. They’re all crap. Stories are all jumbled up, disjointed, non sensical and too fast paced. Too much going on in every episode. They don’t give characters time to settle in with us, they don’t build stories gradually. They don’t develop relationships naturally. It’s all dramatic and over reactions. And has totally the opposite effect than the one they’re aiming for -keeping us engaged. It just switches us off. I’m bored by all these awful storylines.

Yes you're right.

The traditional strength of British soaps has been the depiction of everyday lives, everyday people, humour, adversity, coherent timelines, people we can relate to. I think what happens now is that writers always seem to have an eye to awards - big storylines, scandals and the like - and this comes at the expense of what we love about them.

The writers should concentrate more on what people do love about their soaps.

RaraRachael · 24/12/2020 20:04

I had no knowledge of Kim being mixed up in the shoe business either. Some stories just go on too long - poor Vinnie gets beaten up by his arse of a father but yet again can't tell Mandy the truth because a backstory got in the way.

Whoever it is Al's knocking off, I hope he leaves to be with her/him and takes three quarters of the village with him

HollywoodTease · 24/12/2020 21:37

I have a bit of a hoarder of shoes habit. No way would I pay £50 for a pair of generic knock-off black stilettos Smile

TellingBone · 25/12/2020 12:15

I actually loved the wedding rehearsal with Marlon and Paddy taking their vows.

The rest of it can get in the sea. Especially Lady Macbeth.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 25/12/2020 12:38

The wedding rehearsal was so funny! Marlon in the dress! Grin

ellenanora5 · 25/12/2020 20:59

Christ she's back, can't stand her, did not miss her at all.

Misery guts Debbie. Couldn’t they just leave her in Scotland? Suppose now she’ll becoming home to read charity the riot act. How come she can travel to have a shag with her “babe” but she can’t come and see her daughter who has now been shunted to another grandparent to be looked after?

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 25/12/2020 23:32

In what universe would Al get away with his behavior. The man is as sexy as a gate post and yet has pulled all the decent ladies in Emmerdale. He couldn’t lie straight in bed and gets away with it. Even for soapland, it’s annoying.

It was good to see Zach, even if it was a FaceTime.

Mackenzie can definitely stick around for a bit.

JaneJeffer · 26/12/2020 01:30

I can't believe the big surprise was Debbie. Yawn.

I bawled my eyes out at the wedding. Loving the new vicar.

I was wondering whether Marlon's dress was David's "in me dress" dress.

TellingBone · 26/12/2020 09:20

I was only half watching but have I got this right:

Debbie was supposed to have met Al when she went out on a breakdown in Aberdeen? The by some tortuous coincidence his sons happened to live in the same tiny village she was from? And they were talking about him moving to be with her in Scotland? Which would mean she's leaving her not yet of age children behind permanently?

The Mandy storyline - please just let it be over. The acting is terrible. And they keep repeating the same words over and over again. Ugh.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2020 10:45

Debbie has to rescue Al's dogdy sprakplugs Hmm Al drives a top-of-the-range motor , unless he drove through a river I don't think his sparkplugs would've caused him grief .

Vinnie keeps clutching his side ominously . He's looking at a sudden collapse and a deathbed scene .

Grin at Al having the allure of a gatepost . Well suited to Debbie . She's shagged most of Emmerdale and is the sulkiest stroppiest character out there !

BakedCam · 26/12/2020 11:14

The shot of Al with his Jersey grey tighties on was too much to bear.

Totally agree. I don’t see what Al is supposed to have to make him so attractive to all these ladies? He’s sour as fuck. Who has the energy for that?
