OK, anyone watching this?

Good to see Andi Oliver presenting. Hoping for Christmassy foodie brilliance, expecting myrrh-flavoured soil in a sorrel manger.

I’m watching it - I love Great British Menu, and the food always looks mouthwatering.

I wasn’t too sure about the look of the jammy dodger, though.

lettingthedaysgoby · 01/12/2020 21:23

Liking the chefs judging... (watching on catch-up after GBBO best bits, got Masterchef queued for next, a foodie evening!)

Just catching up. How prop tasting were the canapés???

jay55 · 02/12/2020 00:29

Forget the turkey, I'd happily eat that bread and cheese for every meal over Xmas.

BigFatLiar · 02/12/2020 20:04

Bah missed part 1 need to go to iplayer

jay55 · 02/12/2020 20:05

Anyone else as lost as I am over the format?
I tried paying attention at the start but I'm still lost.

BigFatLiar · 02/12/2020 20:12

Bit pointless having the waiters wear masks, nobody else is.

BigFatLiar · 02/12/2020 20:56

I tend to associate canapes with having a quick bite while having a glass waiting to eat. Not so easy if they come in fancy boxes but I suspect they'll be having them sitting as a pre starter.

jay55 · 02/12/2020 21:01

Yes, but then people won't be able to mingle in a normal way. No air kisses over champagne waiting to be seated.

kazzaD66 · 02/12/2020 21:23

I'm a bit confused aswell. If the canapes and starter are already chosen, what about the next lot of chefs we had a glimpse of in the credits, such as Jason Atherton and Tom Aitkens? Do they not get a chance? Or is each group bidding for only two (different) courses?Confused

They all coked canapes & starters, and three of each went through. Geussing they will all do fish tomorrow...

Alex is seriously good, he is going to be a huge star. Hope to eat in his restaurant... right choice on the canapes... need several little bites.

The voting is very harsh from the chefs! High standards!

There cant be a banquet, they showed a van with boxes so I assumed it was a banquet on wheels kind of thing.

Twisique · 03/12/2020 09:53

Just watching the second one and they are talking about the banquet, so I guess they are doing one! Xmas Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 03/12/2020 17:38

I am most of the way through the first episode. Just jumping in to say that I really like Andi as presenter.

Twisique · 04/12/2020 10:23

Yes me too, shes great!

jay55 · 08/12/2020 20:49

Blimey, multi bird roasts, whole pigs, Jason Atherton and Tom Aitken coming back to compete, main course is like a totally different show.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/12/2020 20:54

Argh. Forgot again.

BigFatLiar · 09/12/2020 20:23

Some amazing dishes. Will the banquet be delivered to the end recipients in the same manner as they're given to the judges? If not shouldn't the dishes be judged as they're going to be delivered?

Chewbecca · 09/12/2020 20:24

Am boggled at the guest judge tonight being veggie and therefore not eating the dishes. I appreciate there would be a veggie option on the day but it would be better (imo) to have a separate round for that dish.

jay55 · 09/12/2020 20:30

They had a veggie judge for starters too.
Fish seemed a lot better yesterday than today.

This is an excellent idea. Giving a proper contest for vegetarian dishes instead of just leaving them as almost an afterthought.
Ontheboardwalk · 14/12/2020 21:00

Yeah some of the vegetarian options sounded better than the mains. that’s why the other judges all wanted to taste them. I’d stab you with a fork if you try to take my food vegi or not.

A separate vegi course sounds a great idea

I loved Andi as a judge but really grating as a presenter. We and the chefs really don’t need a minute count down every minute from 10 minutes

GrouchyKiwi · 15/12/2020 20:05

I like Andi as judge and presenter. She's such a warm presence.

I remembered today. Desserts are my favourite anyway.
