What can I watch with MIL over Christmas?

As the title says, we will have MIL over for Christmas as we do every year but this year I think she will be with us for longer (BIL being a knob). I need to find a series that we can watch with her after DS has gone to bed to save me from watching history documentaries. She's watched The Crown and we have watched the Queens Gambit (DH doesn't want to watch it again). I need something without too much swearing, sez or violence really. One year I started watching The Handmaid's Tale with her, we didn't get past the first episode.......

We don't have sky but do have Netflix and Prime.

Mrs America on iPlayer?

spaceghetto · 29/11/2020 22:10

This is us

NC4Now · 29/11/2020 22:11

Call the midwife

IdblowJonSnow · 29/11/2020 22:12

Sex education!! Maybe not.

I watched Dickensian on Netflix which was excellent. That would be suitable.

Oreservoir · 29/11/2020 22:13

I was going to suggest The Marvellous Mrs Maisel. I think it's Prime.

Okki · 29/11/2020 22:24

Modern Family, Virgin River, Heartland. There's a few Agatha Christie style programmes too. Oh - Enola Holmes. It's not a series though.

Okki · 29/11/2020 22:25

They're all on Netflix.

GigantosaurusRex · 29/11/2020 22:25

Brilliant, thank you everyone I will Google all of these!

'When calls the heart' might work for you.

BringMeThatHorizon · 29/11/2020 22:30

Schitts Creek!

Beamur · 29/11/2020 22:31

This is us is great. Very family friendly, very little sex or swearing. But there is some.

Patienceisvirtuous · 30/11/2020 23:09

Virgin River both series. Lovely

LemonOrange · 01/12/2020 14:24

The Good Doctor, set in a hospital. Pretty sure it’s Netflix, there are 4 series. I can’t watch things like The Handmaids Tale either.

Shosha1 · 01/12/2020 14:26

Not Outlander then GrinWink

AnythingLegalConsidered · 01/12/2020 14:32

Ghosts? Taskmaster?

sakura06 · 01/12/2020 20:32

There's a big costume drama being released on Netflix on Christmas Day called Bridgerton.

Mrs. Maisel is good. This is Us is also great but you will need a lot of tissues!

GigantosaurusRex · 01/12/2020 20:44

Excellent, thanks again all!

This Is US is magnificent tele. Do not waste it on your mil.

Flapjak · 01/12/2020 20:50

Mrs maisel is brilliantly funny but quite a lot of swearing if thats a consideration

merryhouse · 01/12/2020 21:24

Presumably she's seen Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife?

Dr Who? Mildest of swearing, no explicit sex and child- or at least pre-teen-friendly level violence

GigantosaurusRex · 01/12/2020 21:30

Yes @merryhouse I think shes seen both and @Flapjak I don't think too much swearing would go down to well. I'm going to drink a lot over Christmas....
@OhioOhioOhio I might take your advice and give myself something nice to watch in my own time!

OhioOhioOhio · 01/12/2020 21:42

You absolutely cannot waste it on entertaining your mil. It is perfect tele.

Darklane · 07/12/2020 22:59

Is she very straight laced?
I dare say she’s encountered a lot of sex & swearing over the years.I’m a MIL & would be highly amused if I thought my DCs would think I’d be shocked by the stuff they watch.

GooseberryTart · 07/12/2020 23:03

Easy watching Sweet Magnolia’s and Emily in Paris.

Or ‘this is us’ on Prime.

CountFosco · 07/12/2020 23:09

MIL loved Ghosts. What about The Goes Wrong Show?

There will be loads of family friendly stuff over Christmas surely. His Dark Materials unless she's Catholic?
