What can I watch with MIL over Christmas?

As the title says, we will have MIL over for Christmas as we do every year but this year I think she will be with us for longer (BIL being a knob). I need to find a series that we can watch with her after DS has gone to bed to save me from watching history documentaries. She's watched The Crown and we have watched the Queens Gambit (DH doesn't want to watch it again). I need something without too much swearing, sez or violence really. One year I started watching The Handmaid's Tale with her, we didn't get past the first episode.......

We don't have sky but do have Netflix and Prime.

Virgin River - despite title is a pleasant, quaint series.

Once upon a time.

The good place.

Charite/charite at war

Little fires everywhere?

Bluntness100 · 13/12/2020 20:14

I’d agree, Virgin river and this is us.

The detectorists it’s bloody lovely and gentle and perfect viewing with MIL

Outlander? On prime

Call the midwife

My mum sounds very similar in terms of viewing likes. I recommended Life and Us to her, available on BBC iplayer, and she really enjoyed watching both.

The Detectorists is brilliant. Also, The Good Place.

JustBeKind000 · 20/12/2020 01:05

The Durrells!
On Netflix.
Beautifully shot. Funny. Relaxing sunshiney TV.
Ooh I might watch it again! Smile

The Detectorists was brilliant to binge watch with DH so she’ll probably like that. I love This is Us but I watch that alone! Also you need to concentrate on it as it jumps in time a lot and if she’s anything like my mil she talks through everything. I’ve just binged watched 4 episodes of series 5 this evening.

The British film about time travel was also great. Can’t remember the title now where the lad goes in a cupboard to travel through time. Also the one with Billy Connelly something like where we went on our holidays is great too.

I also loved the Australian series on iPlayer called 5 Bedrooms

Another vote for Marvellous Mrs Maisel
