👍

I am. I forgot how much I really like the opening theme and credit animation - its just so perfect. Already getting teary at the idea of things which are to come. I'm impressed so far.

thecatsthecats · 08/11/2020 20:50

I LOVE the actor playing Will. He's so understated.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives · 08/11/2020 21:17

I am! Just finished. Loved it! That final shot was just brilliant. Can’t wait for next week.

Cooroo · 08/11/2020 23:12

It felt so good to see Lyra and Will together at last. Citagazza (sp?) was perfect.

Calyx72 · 08/11/2020 23:20

Loved it Smile

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 08/11/2020 23:23

My DC - teens - love it

Ickabog · 09/11/2020 06:35

I really enjoyed it, but goodness me the intro and recap took up so much time.

Madcats · 09/11/2020 07:08

We watched the first series over 1/2 term in anticipation.

It is beautifully done.

EllieQ · 09/11/2020 07:14

Thought it was great! The adaptation is really well done.

ShallICompareTheeToASummersDay · 09/11/2020 07:21

First episode seemed a bit slow, but I’m looking forward to it getting going. Have been excited about this for a while.

SimonJT · 09/11/2020 07:25

So I enjoyed the first episode, I’m please they covered what a demon is a little more, but I still think their importance was poorly explained in season 1.

I had totally forgotten this was back, luckily by Sky box remembered! I thought it was an incredible start to the series. The witches and spectres were incredible!

PaddyF0dder · 09/11/2020 08:16

Wonderful.

The main casting is a bit “off” aesthetically - Lyra doesn’t look like Lyra, and Will looks about 16! However they’re great actors so I’m happy to look past it.

Excellent adaptation so far. Here’s hoping they get to film the rest of the books. I’d love to see The Book Of Dust on screen.

Wtfdidwedo · 09/11/2020 08:24

I absolutely loved it. Both Will and Lyra seem a bit older/taller than I imagined, and Lyra still sounds too posh, but I still think they're both good choices. I love the witches as well, they were great in last night's episode. And Lee Scoresby! Although having now watched Hamilton between the series' it's hard to see him as anyone but Hamilton. I kept expecting him to sing.

PinkPlantCase · 09/11/2020 08:36

I thought the first episode was a bit slow. Don’t remember the bit with the witch torturing from the books!

Wtfdidwedo · 09/11/2020 08:45

The witch torture was in the books but not in too much detail I don't think? I'm actually enjoying the slow pace, but mainly because the film was so rushed that I'm enjoying the time being spent on this adaptation.

superoz · 09/11/2020 09:31

Really enjoying this. Thought the witches were done really well, and Citagazze close to how I imagined.
One of the other children mentioned Will being near the age that the spectres could see him but I always thought he was younger in the book.

Ickabog · 09/11/2020 09:33

I believe in the books Will and Lyra are both 12, so the comment about him being close but not Lyra was a bit jaring.

Seaoftroubles · 09/11/2020 12:01

Loved it! Brilliant depiction of Citegazze, it's just how l imagined it, and l am enjoying the relationship between Will and Lyra. Yes, Will is a bit older than he is in the books but his character is spot on. I was taken aback to see his smartphone appear though!
Mrs Coulter divinely evil and wonderful to watch...Ruth Wilson was born to play her!

I preferred this to the book, which had finger breaking, which makes me shudder just typing at it.

I like what they've done with the cloud pine, which was implied to be a type of broom in the books, but instead is something seemingly growing beneath the skin in this.

I thought the Cittagazze set looked like Morocco, but apparently they built it from scratch!

EwwDavid · 09/11/2020 12:45

I loved the depiction of citagazze, I’d always imagined it to look very continental and it definitely did. The actor playing Will is wonderful, he’s very complex, mature for his age and quite intimidating even to grown adults in the book, which must be hard for a young actor to pull off but he does it brilliantly.

EwwDavid · 09/11/2020 12:46

spoiler alert

I’m so excited for season 3 and the land of the dead!

thetemptationofchocolate · 09/11/2020 12:55

Loved it, the music, the look of it, the witches, everything was just fab.

Purplekitchen · 10/11/2020 19:04

It's a long time since I read the books.
Can someone explain what she was removing from under the witch's skin?
