Hi all
Have any of you watched the series Breaking Bad ? I got into during lockdown. Was anyone disappointed with how it ended?
I liked Walt at The beginning. But then it went very dark. But I was still hoping he would get away with it in the end!
Happy to hear your views!

i just didnt want it to end
it is so so great

bigdinkydoodah · 07/11/2020 17:34

I, too was disappointed with the ending. I couldn't rest till I'd watched it all. Both DH and I loved it. We then went on to watch Better call Saul. We also watched Ozark which was a bit addictive like Breaking Bad.

RickOShay · 07/11/2020 17:42

Absolutely loved it.

0blio · 07/11/2020 17:48

Best series I've ever seen, followed by Better Call Saul (literally).

OP you're meant to like Walt, then hate him, then feel sorry for him, that's how clever the writing is.

SinkGirl · 07/11/2020 17:51

You should watch The Shield - I think all the series are still on All 4. Focuses on a team of dodgy cops in the LAPD - they do terrible things yet somehow you still root for them at times, and watching everything collapse around them is intense.

I don’t know why it’s not as well known as some other series but I envy anyone getting to watch it for the first time - it’s absolutely brilliant.

JamminDoughnuts · 07/11/2020 18:58

and who do you prefer Walt or his brother in law Hank?

Mad Men also truely excellent, now that had a good ending

forgetthehousework · 07/11/2020 19:05

Brilliant series, the writing, acting and direction unbelievably good while the evolution of the characters made the ending perfectly apt.

SinkGirl · 07/11/2020 19:07

I actually prefer Better Call Saul to BB, although it’s very different, especially in the first couple of seasons (gets more like BB though). The writing is amazing.

cosmo30 · 07/11/2020 19:24

Loved breaking bad. Hated Walt so much when he started thinking he was a badman

Eddielzzard · 07/11/2020 19:27

Loved loved loved BB and Better call Saul. Hank was brilliant! They were all brilliant. Incredible characterisation.

Heartofgoldmumof2 · 07/11/2020 20:48

Yes I loved the characters - loved both Walt and Hank. Jesse was so vulnerable and manipulated! I am just about to start Better Call Saul!
Thanks for the other Tips - I will look for the Shield as I have not heard of that series.
I spent nearly all of the first lockdown watching the whole of 24! Love Jack Bauer too!

Chickenandrice · 08/11/2020 10:54

Yes I loved breaking bad. I liked that Jesse was such a good soul and remained that way throughout so there was someone to root for

Eddielzzard · 08/11/2020 11:39

Yes, the complexity of the characters... Jesse was great. Each of them had their vulnerabilities.

AnyFucker · 08/11/2020 11:42

Every box set I have ever watched has been measured against BB

Better Call Saul was great too.

Heartofgoldmumof2 · 08/11/2020 11:51

I really liked Saul Goodman. I thought he was funny. My DH thought was he annoying. He also didn’t get any BB got such good reviews! Divorce? LOL

Heartofgoldmumof2 · 08/11/2020 11:52

Sorry that should say he didn’t get why BB got such good reviews!

LTB and don't let him near better call saul. Flowers for you. I don't know how you cope

Chicchicchicchiclana · 08/11/2020 12:41

I watched Breaking Bad recently. I don't think I quite "got" it, certainly didn't feel like it was the best TV ever or anything like that. I thought the ending was good though.

Am now watching Better Call Saul with dh (who didn't see Breaking Bad). Again, I'm finding it engaging enough but we have to have long intervals between episodes (dh works a lot of evenings) and I keep forgetting where we are with the plot.

I think there's something about American TV writing that I find a bit too slick and pat, a bit self-consciously clever. I prefer a bit of gritty realism (even in a drama).

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 08/11/2020 12:52

I adored it and was almost lost when it ended.

I have leave coming up and so I shall watch it again - and love every second of it.

There is an instruction to play ‘Black’ at my funeral and have lily of the valley as the flower of choice. (Though the flower is for something else too - it is just fitting)

awaynboilyurheid · 08/11/2020 16:03

Yes, loved it everything you see will be for henceforth be measured against BB.
Great series, stick with is as it just gets better and better

Loved Hank. Loved Mike. Still traumatised by them, LOL (not really laughing ...)

dolphinpose · 08/11/2020 16:06

I'm jealous that you have BCS to look forward to. I loved Breaking Bad. Love Better Call Saul even more, though the last half series felt a bit rocky.
I loved Jesse. Never liked Walt much - he's so bitter from the start.

0blio · 08/11/2020 16:14

I was amazed how my feelings for Hank changed so much throughout. His character development was awesome.

wewillmeetagain · 08/11/2020 16:21

I absolutely loved breaking bad, I didn't think I would at first. Skyler annoyed the hell out of me, but I grew to really like Hank.

nevermorelenore · 09/11/2020 20:59

The ending was pretty much what I expected. The show was always about Walt's death, and I did like the final scene. Like the PP, I started off hating Hank, but his death got to me so much. I think it was because I felt so bad for Marie. She's one of the few people on the show that was completely innocent (other than knicking some spoons!)

Have you watched El Camino yet? It's the TV movie that picks up from the ending and shows what happens to Jesse. I won't post spoilers in case you haven't! And Better Call Saul is amazing. I hated the idea of it now actually prefer it to BB.

Eddielzzard · 09/11/2020 21:04

I loved El Camino too
