I adored him. Especially as the Ben in Butterflies. He saw a good age and went in his sleep. All we can hope for but still I'm sad.

Also loved this actor over the years. Geoffrey Palmer and Sean Connery in the same week. How sad. They don't make them like they used to!

LadyEloise · 06/11/2020 16:45

Geoffrey Palmer - I always thought of him as a quintessential English man.

Great actor. May he rest in peace.

devildeepbluesea · 06/11/2020 16:47

I loved him. @Judashascomeintosomemoney that was one of my faves too. Jimmy was hilarious. Bit of a cock up on the catering front.

the80sweregreat · 06/11/2020 18:19

He was great as the cold unemotional husband in Butterflies! A good old fashioned actor.

RuffleCrow · 06/11/2020 18:23

He was a great comic actor. I saw him in a theatre once when I was a teenager (he was just in the audience) and remember nudging my friend but to my embarassment neither of us could actually remember his name. We were only 18, in our defence. Sorry Geoffrey. You will be sadly missed.Sad

sluj · 06/11/2020 18:32

This is sad news. I loved him in Butterflies and binge watched my way through As Time Goes By during lockdown. He leaves a great legacy behind him but its a bit like losing a lovely uncle Sad

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/11/2020 18:54

He was a cracker!

ilovecardigans · 06/11/2020 19:56

Wonderful actor and an utter gent.

Amazingly, he had no formal acting training!

SirSamuelVimes · 06/11/2020 19:58

@HadEnoughOfBears

As Time Goes By was (is) one of my favourite programs. RIP
Same, I loved it, even though I was far, far too young to be watching it really!
jambeforeclottedcream · 06/11/2020 20:03

RIP I remember him more recently as Lucy's dad in Not Going Out Sad

Wasn't that Geoffrey Whitehead?
Toddlerteaplease · 06/11/2020 23:07

Love him in ATGB and Mrs Brown.

FingersCrossedForAllOfUs · 06/11/2020 23:17

I loved him as Lionel in As Time Goes by. I’ve rewatched the series several times.
RIP Geoffrey.

purpleme12 · 06/11/2020 23:28

I've just looked it up and it went on till 2005, As Time Goes By.
I used to watch it when I was little. I never knew it went on for that long
It's made me want to watch it. It just reminds me of being little

PickAChew · 06/11/2020 23:32

I loved butterflies. Then it was streamed on ukgold 17 years ago and I didn't just live it, I totally got it.

Blibbyblobby · 06/11/2020 23:36

"Forces of Anarachy"!

I love that clip. I love the sentiment. I'd not share it now unless I'm very sure how a friend would take it because despite the sentiment the language hasn't aged well, but I love it.

Blibbyblobby · 06/11/2020 23:38

Ooops Anarchy that should be

MadameBlobby · 06/11/2020 23:41

Sad, I really liked him. 93 though, so a long life x

MadameBlobby · 06/11/2020 23:42

Even though it was only a small role he was great in Blackadder goes Forth as Haig.

Germolenequeen · 06/11/2020 23:46

Butterflies - so many childhood memories - RIP Geoffrey 🦋

Deathraystare · 07/11/2020 14:08

I loved him in Butterflies. and of course When Times goes by. I always thought he resembled a bloodhound! I remember when his wife was meeting that guy in the park and Geoffrey's charachter moaned that he wasn't there to pour out his coffee!

Mum used to screech with laughter when Wendy Craig's character could not get the cake out the oven!!

HeatherAndSand · 07/11/2020 14:11

I saw him also as a baddie in Morse - repeated last night.
