In all the grimness of a looming lockdown I found Emily in Paris total tosh a fabulous distraction. I've also loved The Bold Type. So please hit me with your escapist TV recommendations in the Sex and the City, Gossip Girl, Emily in Paris mould.

Beautiful people, clothes and locations and unchallenging storylines a bonus!!

Women Who Kill is on catch up on Alibi. It reminded me a bit of Desperate Housewives, beautiful people, clothes and locations and a witty storyline.

I'd also like some fun recommendatins I've been watching a lot of news and documentaries which are interesting but not always great for mental health

cathyandclare · 31/10/2020 18:56

Thanks so much for that- I'd seen the title but assumed it would be dark and gritty. It's on the list. I'm currently on season 3 of The Bold Type and just loving the fashion, the escapism and some actors that are extremely easy on the eye!

Good Girls on Netflix! So bad it's good.

cathyandclare · 31/10/2020 19:03

That sounds perfect!

I really liked Madame Secretary which was on Prime but has now disappeared sadly.

givememarmite · 31/10/2020 19:27

You need to watch Selling Sunset on Netflix, a "real life" series about a real estate company selling $$$$$ properties in LA. The glossiest, trashiest programme you'll find in a long time!

AnneLovesGilbert · 31/10/2020 19:31

Scandal. Not sure what it’s on anymore. Bit grim occasionally but utterly madly absorbing and fantastical. You’ll hate her. You’re meant to. Jump in and embrace it.

LoveFall · 31/10/2020 19:35

Try Below Deck. Fancy yachts, the "beautiful people" etc. I found it true escapism. Also gorgeous scenery. But I had to pay for Hayu.

Wishfulthinkk · 31/10/2020 21:08

Below deck has a couple of series on Netflix and one on prime, it’s so addictive!
I also just watched the hills new beginnings for pure trash tv

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/10/2020 21:10

Virgin River

Utter nonsense. Bad acting, bad writing. Cheesy. Somehow utterly compelling.

cherrypiepie · 31/10/2020 21:11

I watched Emily In Paris then watched virgin river!

Lovely scenery beautiful people light drama predictable fluffy feel good factor! Loved it!

Reminded me of providence from years ago if you can remember that.

Soothing mindless escapism Thanks

cherrypiepie · 31/10/2020 21:11

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit

Couldn't agree more!!

Oxyiz · 31/10/2020 21:23

The remake of Dynasty fits the bill too!

Pinkflipflop85 · 31/10/2020 21:42

Absolutely the new version of dynasty. I love it for escapism!

EatPrayYoga · 31/10/2020 21:55

This sounds like my sort of TV

I just watched Desperate Housewives

I loved Virgin River, Real Housewives, Sex and the City, Gossip Girl...

I'm watching Very Cavallari at the moment as I like reality tv

Gossipgirl2 · 01/11/2020 17:36

Definitely recommend Selling Sunset, Below Deck and Real Housewives of New York

EatPrayYoga · 01/11/2020 19:28

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills too

LumpySpacedPrincess · 01/11/2020 19:32

@Oxyiz

The remake of Dynasty fits the bill too!
It's bloody brilliant isn't it, love Falllon!
WildWindBlows · 01/11/2020 19:34

Riviera on sky Atlantic/now TV fits your bill.

goodhairforlockdown · 01/11/2020 20:02

Is there anything in prime which fits the bill?

Frazzled13 · 01/11/2020 20:07

It’s a reality show rather than drama but Selling Sunset fits your criteria. Rich people in expensive clothes being bitchy in multi—million dollar houses.

The bold type is good on Prime

CurlsandCurves · 02/11/2020 13:13

Any of the Real Housewives franchises.

And while they’re not exactly glamorous or glossy, 90 Day Fiancé and any of the spin off shows.

laudemio · 02/11/2020 13:18

Second vote for Riviera

GroundAlmonds · 02/11/2020 15:28

I dodged Riviera because I heard mixed opinions, but if it’s good I will add it to my list . Perfect escapism for Autumn.

I have just posted a new thread about Bridgerton which will be huge at Christmas. The trailer is on my thread. I am really exited for that one.

Next week series 4 of The Crown is released too, if you like that.
