Available today. DH and I will be watching tonight. Creating this thread in readiness!

I am stupidly excited as Hill House was one of my favourite series of all time. Is it too much to ask to hope this series is as good?!

Will update once watched the first episode...

👀 Keeping an eye on this! Also watched hill house and enjoyed it!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 09/10/2020 15:15

Oooooh need to start on this. Loved Haunting of Hill House.. poor Nelly!
Hopefully its as good.. I like the actors that are also in this one.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 09/10/2020 15:22

I have watched a little bit and will carry on this evening, it looked good

GirlCrush · 09/10/2020 15:35

I know nothing about this! Supposed to be good?

Haunting of hill house was ok

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 09/10/2020 15:35

Aaah I loved Hill House too (disappointed at the book which I read after). Yes, poor Nell. And to think everything that had tormented her throughout and made us hide behind cushions was a premonition. This sounds a bit batty but I felt so sad for her after, it bothered me for a couple of days.

Have to say Carla Whatsherface (the mum) was absolutely beautiful in it, what a gorgeous lady she is, I remember her from the Bon Jovi video and wanting to be her!

But yes, I'll be watching this, thanks for the reminder OP Grin

Rollergirl11 · 09/10/2020 15:59

Yes, Carla Gugino is absolutely stunning. I remember actually that I used to get quite confused as I thought Olivia (Mum), Shirley (eldest daughter) and Theo (2nd daughter) all looked really similar and I’d forget who was who!

Samcro · 09/10/2020 16:13

looking forward to it. will this be a no spoilers thread? we are not going to binge watch.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 09/10/2020 16:14

'The rest is confetti' Sad

They did really well with the casting they all looked so similar

Episode one..here we go..

Boredsilly · 09/10/2020 20:22

I didn't realise that was the mum in the Always video, I loved that video and Jon Bon Jovi 😍

Let us know how you get on with Bly Manor loved Hill House!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 09/10/2020 20:56

Episode 5 is intresting...

Rollergirl11 · 10/10/2020 07:42

Watched first 2 episodes last night. Actually found it pretty boring and the over the top British accents were irritating. Lost count of the amount of times “perfectly splendid” was said!

OP posts:
Pickypolly · 10/10/2020 07:49

Absolute pile of shite.
Dreadful, awful fake English accents, nothing original or new about any of it.
Completely predictable and bland.
Very disappointed.
And that’s from just the first one, I will watch another one or two but so far, shit.

YouTubeR · 10/10/2020 08:05

First thing me and DP thought was, what the hell is going on with the accents?
Carla is meant to be northern? Irish? What?
The uncle (the young dad in Hill house) and his British accent made it laughable, only watched 1 but will try another one tonight

Rollergirl11 · 10/10/2020 08:22

It was a parody of what Americans think being British is. All cups of tea, sausage and mash and jolly hockey sticks.

I’m right in saying that its the same house from Hill House, right?

OP posts:
Silvercatowner · 10/10/2020 08:45

It's an adaption of 'Turn on the Screw'. I'm disappointed that the makers didn't go to something less well-known - there's a film based on the same book that's on Netflix at the moment.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 10/10/2020 11:02

Very on the fence..the accents are very grating. So glad she stops saying splendid!
Think what loved about Hill House was the family dynamic and how things slotted together. This is very very slow going

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 10/10/2020 12:26

Thought the children had really out English accents..but both are English and the girl is new voice of Pepa Pig.. still sounds over the top though.

Flaxmeadow · 10/10/2020 12:37

It's an adaption of 'Turn on the Screw'

Yes it is, a novel written in the Victorian period I think? There's an old British black and white film version of it that was really good, from the 1950s or early 60s I think

I've watched the first 3 episodes and agree about the posh policeman and his accent. The police were definitely NOT posh in the 1980s and still aren't. His uniform was a bit odd as well

In general I think it's really good so far though. Finding it really scary. Some good scary effects and editing. Started watching through my fingers about half an hour in.

Like it so far

hypochondriacseveywhere · 10/10/2020 12:39

I'm onto episode 2 I really want to like it as I loved the first haunting but I can not for the life of me get into it. I may give it another go later on.

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 10/10/2020 12:41

I was ready to stab my ears if I heard perfectly splendid one more time Grin

It's very boring so far. Not many characters. Can't muster up a fuck for any of them.

Why is Danis accent so strange?

hollyandkit · 10/10/2020 13:32

Only seen the first two episodes but really enjoying it. I thought the first season was a bit dull and preferring this so far. Can't beat creepy kids and freaky dolls!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 10/10/2020 14:34

Definitely takes a while to get going but once all starts to come together. Loved the last 2 episodes.
The dodgy accents though..
Did like how the kept the sad piano music in

GirlCrush · 10/10/2020 20:04

on episode 7 and i'm bored now

Rollergirl11 · 10/10/2020 21:03

I’m on episode 4. I’m absolutely gutted at how shit it is. Literally nothing has happened for 4 episodes!

OP posts:
Lovelydayforit · 10/10/2020 21:33

Aaarghhh - could this be worse???? Half way through first episode and painful to make it this far. The script is appalling, the acting is even worse....so disappointing.
