Married at First Sight UK - Anyone finished it yet?

I enjoyed it but it was very short.

Love Owen and Michelle. I had a good feeling about them from the beginning.

David and Shareen both annoyed the hell out of me. He was odd with his various bags packed for emergencies. She claimed to be open but barely spoke.

Hopefully there will be another series next year.

This is the first time I have watched Married at First Sight.

I pretty much agree with what everyone else has already said.

One thing I thought a bit strange though is the final interview with the matchmakers at the end. How come the men got to speak to the matchmakers alone, whereas Shareen and Michelle were brought in and had to say how they felt in front of the other person.

And I also thought it was a bit weird that they weren't asked individually whether they wanted to remain married or not. I realise that it would be a bit awkward if one party said yes and the other no, but imagine the pressure if you were really not sure and erring on the side of no, but the other person said yes in front of you, making you say yes as well.

Agreed! The second person is hardly going to say yes after the first said no either! Much better to do it individually and see how people respond honestly and then deal with any scenario that comes from a mixed decision.

Watching the final episode now .

The relationship "experts" should be ashamed of themselves , banging on about communication when the huge elephant in the room is that Shereen not only doesn't fancy David but actively looks down on him.

Her facial expressions and body language when he is speaking are just so disrespectful and rude.

Shortfeet · 27/10/2020 22:14

Does anyone know the legality of these short TV marriages ? Could one divorcing partner make a legitimate claim on the other's wealth ?

bubblesforlife · 27/10/2020 22:22

Just finished it too!
Shereen is rather unpleasant, rude and the opposite of everything she insists she is (open)!
David was much nicer, he tried, he did open up, she just knocked him down at every opportunity. How does she know whether he is whole? She didn’t give him a chance.
I hope David finds someone much nicer, he deserves much better than how Shereen tried to convince herself and everyone else was.

theliverpoolone · 27/10/2020 22:24

I really felt for David. The panel were implying there was a lack of communication from both sides, but he really had tried, while Shereen had actively ignored him and, as was said, switched off from day 2. For someone who thought he put walls up I thought he was remarkably keen to be open and communicate - the only wall in the way was the one round Shereen. I reckon David will get a lot of offers after this!

JaneJeffer · 27/10/2020 23:31

Never mind the bag, the massage oil and ginormous box of condoms was very off putting. Shereen just didn't fancy him so it was never going to work no matter how much they communicated. I think she's too set in her ways to compromise for any man.

Michelle and Owen were lovely. I didn't find him controlling but her sister definitely is!

Loftyloft · 30/10/2020 06:48

For all his prepping, David was kind, straight forward and easy going. Shareen was probably right that he wasn’t ‘intellectually’ compatible with her, but she was so mean to him, and just putting him down in front of the other couple showed an uncaring side to her. She just seemed disgusted with the matchmakers that they could have possibly thought he was good enough for her. In her defence, it was probably just disappointment coming out, but it wasn’t kind.

I thought Owen and Michelle were lovely when they met David and Shareen, definitely acted the more mature of the two couples, gave good advice, and were kind.

I wonder if Michelle can tempt Owen to eat more interesting food though, who considered a korma too spicy!

One series - I think the second one - a participant called Sara came onto the Mumsnet thread and told us what it was like as a participant!
Also really interesting to see what the lady (Steph?) from series 3 went through with Ben Jardine - he (and the programme) nearly destroyed her - I saw her story on Instagram. Just google Ben jardine if you didn't see it.
Legally they are married, but can get it annulled if not consummated (in case eg of David and Shareen) or wait a year and get divorced. They do prenups, but with v short marriage no kids you generally take out what you put in anyway (I'm a family lawyer)!
Wondering why the move to Sheffield for Michelle and Ryan - possibly health issues in his family (remember his parents were shielding) and cost of living, but her sister was so overbearing, and her mum was a bit of a wet blanket if you remember from early on, I don't think they were letting Michelle grow up.
Completely agree Shareen a fake spiritual person with no insight. But remember one of the panel said early on that she practically had 'back off' written on her forehead? Maybe not a good choice for the show then!

Arcadia · 30/10/2020 20:14

For the record the big box of condoms were joked about when they were packing to leave, not brandished with any expectation! At worst he was a bit optimistic but no suggestion that he pressured her.

Geekster1963 · 05/11/2020 14:07

Owens sister is one of my friends.

JaneJeffer · 05/11/2020 16:08

How are they getting on @Geekster1963? Still happy I hope!

Geekster1963 · 05/11/2020 21:38

They are, they are still married.

Sertchgi123 · 08/11/2020 21:20

Just watched all four episodes. I really didn't like Shareen, she had no insight into who she really is.

KitKat1985 · 18/11/2020 21:05

Just finished this series (late to the party I know)! I really didn't like Shareen. She spoke constantly about being open minded but in reality I think she closed her mind off to being with David as soon as she saw that bloody bag. And I think in many ways she was quite cruel. She could have just said 'we didn't click' when she spoke to Michelle and Owen but instead she launched into a whole character assination of him. Not to say that David was perfect, but I think overall he came across better than she did.

Owen and Michelle she liked. I agree that sometimes she came across as more into their relationship than he did, but I think that may have just been more reserved whereas Michelle was a more 'heart on sleeve character'.

Michelle's sister got on my nerves though. Whilst I completely get that she was sad about her sister moving away she acted like she should have been consulted and involved in the decision making process.

BenoneBeauty · 18/11/2020 23:10

Completely agree @KitKat1985, Michelle's sister was very annoying!

Shareen was one of those very annoying people who constantly go on about how open minded they are but in reality they're only open minded if you agree with them!
