I enjoyed it but it was very short.

Love Owen and Michelle. I had a good feeling about them from the beginning.

David and Shareen both annoyed the hell out of me. He was odd with his various bags packed for emergencies. She claimed to be open but barely spoke.

Hopefully there will be another series next year.

I found it quite amusing when the sister was all ‘we haven’t even discussed it!’ and Michelle told her that there had been plenty of discussion but that she wasn’t part of it

Michelle said herself that she is a people pleaser and likely to agree to things without giving them enough thought.

I think her sister knows this too and was trying to get her to think about it a bit more.
Worried that Michelle might have been railroaded by awful Owen.

Lolaloveslemonade · 18/10/2020 09:04

They may well have ‘discussed it’ at length but Michelle comes across as someone who is easy to persuade 😕

Lolaloveslemonade · 18/10/2020 09:06

Did anyone see the article in the papers about David being attacked in his own home by 5 men with machetes? No wonder he now tries to be prepared for things!

Did Shareen know this I wonder? If she did, her criticism of his ‘survival kit’ was plain nasty.

I would have thought if they had done any actual talking and getting to know each other he would have told her about it especially if that is the reason he now is a "prepper"

That’s terrible. Poor David

WatchTooMuchBelowDeck · 18/10/2020 22:58

We've just watched the whole series over two nights. There was a LOT of incredulous shouting at the TV every time Shareen said anything. Agree with everything that has been posted.

I hadn't seen that about David, but that's awful! I thought he seemed lovely.

Loved Michelle and Owen. He's a bit of an introvert and a geek but not cold or uncaring. I presume they looked closely at all the options for where to live and to be honest at 25, newly married and having lived in the same place all my life I would have jumped at the chance to spread my wings and live the city life for a while.

Bloody hell. If only Shareen had bothered to try and find out a little bit about him. She really was all me me me.

WatchTooMuchBelowDeck · 19/10/2020 18:30

Although she did accuse him of 'living in the past' and 'being afraid of the past' etc whereas she was apparently only lived for the moment ConfusedHmm

If she is referring to that she can absolutely DO ONE. She is totally minimising what must have been a terrifying experience.

I am all for mindfulness and trying to enjoy the present etc but saying you ONLY live for the present is complete and utter bullshit.

chrislilleyswig · 20/10/2020 22:18

Wow David is far too good for Shareen. What a difficult woman.

Michelle's sister was out of order too

covetingthepreciousthings · 20/10/2020 22:24

Wow didn't see that article about David before, makes total sense now why he could be a 'prepper', I wonder if he talked to her about it?

I couldn't get over the over reaction to the bag, and then I'm sure she definitely said the tattoos were a dealbreaker. It seemed she'd made her mind up from that point. I wasn't sure why she went on the show at all tbh.

He seemed lovely I thought, i always wonder if people watch programs like this and then try get in contact with the contestants to try go on a date with them. It must happen.

With Owen, I thought it was odd he just bought a house in Sheffield, it almost then didn't seem to give Michelle a choice? Hope they're happy together though, they did seem well suited at least.

awaynboilyurheid · 20/10/2020 22:34

Shareen was as others have said, someone who thinks she is one way when in fact totally the opposite. How can you claim to be spiritual open etc and be such a mean spirited person? She was determined to blame David for it not working yet not taking any responsibility herself. He looked bewildered by her at times he just couldn’t win. Hope he a find someone nice in the future.

I am pretty sure he must have bought or been in the process of buying the house long before he married Michelle. House sales don't normally go through very quickly even when they are straight forward
Peaseblossom22 · 21/10/2020 08:35

In the first episode they showed Owen in his new house , he definitely bought it before this process. He also did say several times that he would be prepared to move south if necessary .

SnazzyHatchback · 21/10/2020 09:43

It also looked as though they were living together somewhere different in the clip at the end so I wonder if they chose somewhere together to live in Sheffield and rented out/sold the townhouse.

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/10/2020 09:46

I thought that @SnazzyHatchback. I wondered if that was their compromise, she moved but they would pick a house together in Sheffield.

Lolaloveslemonade · 21/10/2020 10:28

God I hope so. She didn’t look thrilled when she looked around his awful house and heard his big plans for sofas and TVs...

SnazzyHatchback · 21/10/2020 11:42

Grin I thought the same thing. I do wish them happiness, they seemed very sweet together.

ColdOopNorth · 21/10/2020 13:52

I read that a few years ago David was attacked in his own home and he was badly injured protecting his son and dog - maybe this explains the survival bag thing? He came across as a nice bloke - we all have our quirks. Shereen was definitely harsh with him

Hopeisathingwithfeathers · 21/10/2020 13:54

Shareen was just awful. I didn’t like David much but had so much sympathy for him by the end. She was just the most narrow minded, self involved person. You can decide someone is not for you without behaving like a nasty person and throwing a tantrum.

Got to say I adored Michelle but got a sudden bad feeling about Owen at the end. Rewatch the scene where she’s leaving their lockdown house. He clearly can’t wait to be rid of her. She’s all ‘I don’t want to go!’ And he’s barely even saying bye. I strongly suspect he changed his tune about moving as he doesn’t have any faith in it lasting. I felt so sad for her giving up her life and moving for someone that was so indifferent to her.

thecatsthecats · 22/10/2020 10:20

Very random tangent, but did anyone else notice that although David and Shareen both had dogs, the dog with them at the campsite was not either of the dogs they were shown with previously?

Did they hire a stunt dog?

Lurchermom · 22/10/2020 10:20

@waterlego

I felt that Shareen was a poor candidate for this type of show given her belief in one true soulmate. Surely you can’t go into a marriage with a stranger expecting them to be that soulmate. I suppose having spiritual beliefs might allow you to think it could happen but realistically you have to go into it with an open mind and a willingness to find out what there is to love about the person- or at least a willingness to get to know them!
Yes this - I think the show shouldn't have picked her because the chances of finding "the one" is just unrealistic, and generally the people who think there is only one person in the entire world for them are going to struggle in relationships because they don't compromise and work on issues. As soon as she said she expected a connection the moment she saw him, I knew it was going to fail. I liked David, but then I'm a little bit of a prepper at heart. His tattoos were meh, but he's hardly the only one out there with badly thought out tattoos. I thought he tried hard, but it's hard to know just how invasive his spreadsheets and prepping is to day to day life without seeing the unedited material. So it could be he said that she must carry the bag 24/7 when he gave it to her, we just don't know. But generally I don't think she came off very well at all. Have you read about the attack David survived in 2018? I think anyone who has got through something like that is probably going to have a different take on survival/preparing for the worst.

I hated Michelle's sister. Moving away isn't selfish. People move away from their families all the time. Relationships often require relocation, as do jobs. How clostrophobic to think you have to stay within a certain radius of your family your entire life! I think Michelle was very brave and sensible to stand up to her. I agree Owen was a bit closed off and a little controlling; I wonder if the Sheffield move was to do with his plan to retire by 40 and his property business. Houses in Hastings are so much more expensive I doubt it would be possible to do the same thing down there / would ruin his plans to be financially independent. Especially if he's doing a lot of the work himself/being hands on.

Lurchermom · 22/10/2020 10:46

*claustrophobic I suddenly forgot how to spell Hmm

butterpuffed · 23/10/2020 12:32

I felt sorry for David, he was willing to compromise but Shareen wouldn't give an inch. She totally ignored him when they went for that walk and then blamed the producers for matching her with him Confused

Turquoisesea · 23/10/2020 16:34

Shareen just liked to think of herself a certain way when it appeared she was the opposite. Just because she practiced reiki, meditated and said she was spiritual didn’t mean she is also open minded as she was clearly not. As soon as David didn’t match up to her idea of a ‘perfect’ partner (which doesn’t exist anyway) she completely closed off from him. There was no lightness about her, no sense of fun at all. I couldn’t believe her going to bed at 9.30pm at the glamping place. Surely if she was that ‘open minded’ even if she didn’t fancy the poor guy she could have taken time to chat to him and get to know more about him instead of going back to her own tent. She had made her mind u about him and after that it seems she didn’t even want to make the effort of a friendship with him. Then she tried to blame him for being closed off, poor guy probably had no idea how to act towards her after that. I thought it was interesting that she also blamed him for being a certain way, blamed the matchmakers for a poor selection but not once did she ever look at herself or her behaviour.
