Verity: Fantastic Article in the Daily Mail

(And I don't often say that)

This 'tough love' for babies is just sadism

"Not since Katie Hopkins smarmed her way through The Apprentice have the women of Britain been so united in hatred."

and

"Mothers want to punch their way into the TV to grab her by the throat.

Child abuse experts are queuing up to denounce her.

The mumsnet chatroom is calling for her cold, unfeeling heart to be torn out and nailed to the front of Mothercare."

OP posts:

brilliant, encapsulates everything wrong with the verity way of child 'care'. and that pic of her ... surely on a grand a day, she could stretch to a tube of touche eclat........

"with her wigwam of Myra Hindley blonde hair and supercilious manner" i like that bit !

welliemum · 10/10/2007 07:15

"The problem with Claire Verity is that she practises tough love without the love.

And love is the glue that bonds parent and child.

It creates the trust and empathy so vital to adult relationships."

I've never heard of Allison Pearson until this minute and I her already!

WaynettaVonBlood · 10/10/2007 07:20

So the nation is united then?

(Welliemum - Allison Pearson has written a bot called "I don't know how she does it" which is a chicklit (anedcdotal) story about a working mother who is trying to be all things to all men and children. I have seen her speak a couple of times and she is very funny)

WaynettaVonBlood · 10/10/2007 07:21

a 'BOT'? WTF? a book is what I meant to say.......obviously seeing her picture at this hour has had an effect on me.....

PMSL at "Let's hope Claire followed her own advice: no cuddling, and only let little Mick near the breast every four hours."

franke · 10/10/2007 07:24

Ooh I could quote the whole article.

"As far as I'm concerned, anyone who can't spare a tiny baby a few months of eye contact and cuddles doesn't deserve to have a child at all."

In a nutshell.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/10/2007 07:47

Oh fantastic. Love it all.

but....
CV had sex with Mick jagger??
I feel sick

nappyaddict · 10/10/2007 08:12

a good thing from the daily mail for once. but it is so annoying how the bring mumsnet into everything!! how lazy do these journalists want to get.

DoctorFrankenSquonk · 10/10/2007 08:36

comparing CV to a Romanian orphanage - not too far off the mark!

SaintGeorge · 10/10/2007 11:15

I love this comment on the Mail site:

Ahhh another baby "expert" - one who had no children herself so is obviously an expert, well we all know the definiton of an expert, an ex is a has been and a spert is a drip under pressure, as can be easily proved.

I hate Channel 4 and Daisy Goodwin the producer a lot more than I hate Claire Verity.

Verity is obviously a very misguided woman but they are the one's who've decided to give her a national airing and treat her sadistic methods as if they were valid.

I can't stand it when male executives use a woman for a bit of witch-burning when they want to get their viewing figures up.

sandyballs · 10/10/2007 14:29

I wonder if Alison Pearson is a mumsnetter.

UnquietDad · 10/10/2007 14:31

"wigwam of Myra Hindley blonde hair"

Ouch! So true though...

i like to sharpen my claws once in a while, and that felt good

MaryAnnSingletomb · 10/10/2007 14:34

she's scary looking (not Alison Pearson) !! and another thread said she was only 41 - gah !

UnquietDad · 10/10/2007 14:34

She's the new Public Enemy Number one, isn't she?

(Gina who?)

DarrellRivers · 10/10/2007 14:35

As Ian from Cheshire said
'Miaouw"

I enjoyed 'I don't know how she does it' although I know lots of mumsnetters hated it

MyEye · 10/10/2007 14:36

sorry, she did it with Mick Jagger? Wha-aaat?

DarrellRivers · 10/10/2007 14:36

GF looks positively touchy-feely in comparison

MyEye · 10/10/2007 14:41

nappyaddict, why do you mind when MN's views are quoted in papers in relation to stories like this? The fact that journalists reference the site is a Good Thing for MN, reinforces its status, increases hits, brings in more advertising revenue etc.
Plus, it means someone is paying attention to the MN consensus, which is usually pretty sensible.
What's not to like?

Heartmum2Jamie · 10/10/2007 14:49

I missed last nights episode, but caught up with episodes 1 & 2 yesterday. All I can say is that the article is brilliant. Completely agree with this statement: "As far as I'm concerned, anyone who can't spare a tiny baby a few months of eye contact and cuddles doesn't deserve to have a child at all."
