BBC Breakfast presenter’s - What do you think of them?

BbcBreakfastisCrap · 22/09/2020 00:27

On the occasions I watch BBC Breakfast I can’t get over how dull some of the presenters are. I don’t mean to be unkind honestly but why are they there?

Dan Walker I like very much I have to say, he has charisma and a natural warmth about him and sense of humour. I also like Sally Nugent, she has energy and seems warm and friendly too. Carol Kirkwood (I know she is weather) is fab, she is warm, smily, happy and seems genuinely lovely.
I really liked Steph McGovern too she was natural, funny and engaging, it’s a real shame she has gone.

Unfortunately for me it ends there. Naga Munchetty seems cold as ice, uninterested in the job, no natural presence and absolutely no charisma or warmth about her. Charlie Stayt is much the same, just a robot who couldn’t care less who he is interviewing, there is no connection with anyone or anything, boooooring. And the two of them together well is it me or do they actually hate each other? There is no kind of connection or friendliness between them.
Louise Minchin seems nice enough but she’s just a bit Meh in my view. Nondescript and if she wasn’t there I don’t feel like it would be a great loss.

Sorry this isn’t meant to be a character assassination it’s a genuine lack of understanding as to why some of these presenter’s have been on this programme for so long? Do they boost ratings? Are they cheap to employ or something? Are they stuck on 20 year contracts that cannot be broken unless they commit a war crime? Honestly I have no clue, I really don’t.
I do wonder if they should start again, employ some newbies and inject some energy and enthusiasm into the sofa’s. Plus inject some more diversity.

I know I don’t have to watch it and I generally stick to news 24 later in the day but on the occasions I do see it I’m left feeling hollow. I’m not expecting razzle dazzle and jazz hands obviously just a bit of oomph.

Whilst we are on the subject of newsreader’s I love Clive Myrie, he’s one of my favourites along with George Alligiah, Jane Hill, Lukwesa Burak, Martine Croxall, Carrie Gracie, Annita McVeigh, Reeta Chakrabarti, Sophie Raworth and I’m sure I’ve missed some. They all seem to display personality and they are reading the news and don’t have as much opportunity to converse in the way the breakfast lot need to. Maybe a job swap is in order? Just a thought.

Sorry about that I really didn’t mean to go on so long, it must be several years worth of overthinking this.

I agree but know someone who likes one of those you've mentioned. They must be Marmite types!

BbcBreakfastisCrap · 22/09/2020 00:39

@SallySeven - Ha! Who do they like out of interest? I’m really interested to know what some people like about them?!
I’m assuming they have done focus groups and the like to test public opinion so I’m wondering if we are in the minority here!

I caught 5 minutes of it today. I soon switched over to sky news, I’d rather tolerate Kay Burley and the adverts than the Stayt and Minchin drones.

Charlie Stayt.Confused

I suppose I don't mind Louise Minchin so they must be fairly inoffensive to the focus groups and professional.

BbcBreakfastisCrap · 22/09/2020 09:43

That’s what I’m wondering, are they still there because they are largely inoffensive? Not a ringing endorsement just very beige it seems.

Carol Kirkwood (I know she is weather) is fab, she is warm, smily, happy and seems genuinely lovely. I can't stand any of them either

SallySeven · 22/09/2020 09:45

I like Dan Walker he seems a genuinely pleasant, kind man. But I've seen a lot of naysayers on here!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/09/2020 09:47

I like Naga. Her clothes are amazing. She’s beautiful.

tornadoalley · 22/09/2020 09:50

I like the presenters, especially Louise and Charlie. Naga seems quite abrasive, but I love how sharp she is. I think she would be better on a probing political program. Breakfast needs to be relaxing as far as I'm concerned.

BbcBreakfastisCrap · 22/09/2020 09:51

I agree Naga looks incredible and has an amazing wardrobe. But sadly for me that’s where it starts and finishes with her. It’s the coldness I struggle with.
Dan Walker seems genuinely pleasant and has energy, warmth and charisma.
I haven’t even touched on GMB, I would brave it more often even with the Piers Morgan circus if it weren’t for all the adverts.

Naga is very beautiful and elegant.

tornadoalley · 22/09/2020 09:52

I love Dan Walker, he's so human and his engagement with people is so genuine. Lovely to see him with the man who maintained the memorial to the American airman who died over Sheffield.

TheQueef · 22/09/2020 09:53

Dan often makes me chuckle, Louise comes across well as does Naga and Sally.
Dan and Steph would be my dream team with Victoria Derbyshire for the news bulletin.

BbcBreakfastisCrap · 22/09/2020 09:54

Yes Dan was so sweet with the American airman, that was a lovely thing to bring to the programme and organise.
I agree Naga would work well on a political programme. She just doesn’t cut it for me as a breakfast presenter.

Dan's head appears to be made of wood

BbcBreakfastisCrap · 22/09/2020 09:55

TheQueef - Yes Dan and Steph worked so well together, just the right balance of charisma and professionalism.

I love Naga and Charlie.

Dan Walker- well my son did the same journalism course that he did. He came to do a guest lecture. None of them were impressed. Way too driven and unrealistic was the overall thought.

BbcBreakfastisCrap · 22/09/2020 09:57

That’s surprised me with Dan, he does a good job of hiding these traits on screen!

OP posts:
SallySeven · 22/09/2020 09:58

Yes but he is in the biggest channel fronting a show! He couldn't be shy and retiring.

Draculahhh · 22/09/2020 10:03

Naga just rubs me up the wrong way, she seems incredibly bitchy to guests and fellow presenters. Not a fan of the breathy voiced Irish blonde lady either. I like Steph, Dan, Charlie and Carol.

potter5 · 22/09/2020 10:05

I loved Bill Turnbull!

SallySeven · 22/09/2020 10:06

Bill Turnbull is on classic FM and is always lovely to listen to.

SallySeven · 22/09/2020 10:06

Bill and Sian were good.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 22/09/2020 10:07

I loved Bill too. And Sian.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 22/09/2020 10:08

Although Dan lives near me. Often see him out with his dog and kids. That thing on the guy tending the graves of the WW2 pilots was just an amazing piece of journalism.
