BBC Breakfast presenter’s - What do you think of them?

BbcBreakfastisCrap · 22/09/2020 00:27

On the occasions I watch BBC Breakfast I can’t get over how dull some of the presenters are. I don’t mean to be unkind honestly but why are they there?

Dan Walker I like very much I have to say, he has charisma and a natural warmth about him and sense of humour. I also like Sally Nugent, she has energy and seems warm and friendly too. Carol Kirkwood (I know she is weather) is fab, she is warm, smily, happy and seems genuinely lovely.
I really liked Steph McGovern too she was natural, funny and engaging, it’s a real shame she has gone.

Unfortunately for me it ends there. Naga Munchetty seems cold as ice, uninterested in the job, no natural presence and absolutely no charisma or warmth about her. Charlie Stayt is much the same, just a robot who couldn’t care less who he is interviewing, there is no connection with anyone or anything, boooooring. And the two of them together well is it me or do they actually hate each other? There is no kind of connection or friendliness between them.
Louise Minchin seems nice enough but she’s just a bit Meh in my view. Nondescript and if she wasn’t there I don’t feel like it would be a great loss.

Sorry this isn’t meant to be a character assassination it’s a genuine lack of understanding as to why some of these presenter’s have been on this programme for so long? Do they boost ratings? Are they cheap to employ or something? Are they stuck on 20 year contracts that cannot be broken unless they commit a war crime? Honestly I have no clue, I really don’t.
I do wonder if they should start again, employ some newbies and inject some energy and enthusiasm into the sofa’s. Plus inject some more diversity.

I know I don’t have to watch it and I generally stick to news 24 later in the day but on the occasions I do see it I’m left feeling hollow. I’m not expecting razzle dazzle and jazz hands obviously just a bit of oomph.

Whilst we are on the subject of newsreader’s I love Clive Myrie, he’s one of my favourites along with George Alligiah, Jane Hill, Lukwesa Burak, Martine Croxall, Carrie Gracie, Annita McVeigh, Reeta Chakrabarti, Sophie Raworth and I’m sure I’ve missed some. They all seem to display personality and they are reading the news and don’t have as much opportunity to converse in the way the breakfast lot need to. Maybe a job swap is in order? Just a thought.

Sorry about that I really didn’t mean to go on so long, it must be several years worth of overthinking this.

Yes Bill and Sian were lovely and natural. They were a great duo.

Yeah Bill and Sian were a good team.
I was never a fan of Suzanne and I just can't watch GMB.

BbcBreakfastisCrap · 22/09/2020 10:11

Suzanne seemed a bit showy for BBC, GMB seems to fit her better.

They should lure Steph back, give her her own consumer show with Nikki Fox (sp)
I enjoyed her on watchdog and think there is a space for bigger consumer investigations.

Clawdy · 22/09/2020 23:15

Love Naga, she's great. I get fed up of Louise and Dan's silly jokes.

IKEA888 · 22/09/2020 23:18

I'm envious of people who have time to watch it.

RAOK · 22/09/2020 23:59

I like Naga and Louise. Victoria Derbyshire is my favourite.

FOKKYFC · 23/09/2020 00:35

I spent a couple of hours with Naga v recently. She takes no shit but is extremely pleasant. And tiny. And beautiful.
I miss Steph.
I could do without Sally Nugent, honestly.
No strong feelings one way or the other about the men, apart from Bill, who was ace.

ouch321 · 23/09/2020 00:41

That's funny, I came on to say well actually I miss Bill and Sian. My favourite is Louise, I don't like Naga's fake laugh.

KnobChops · 23/09/2020 08:43

I liked Bill and Sian, they seemed like proper journalists.

The ones op mentions are terribly lightweight and let the politicians get away with murder. Dan is a himbo,

I think Naga is good and holds politicians feet to the flames but she’s a bit serious for breaskfast although dry humour. Thought Steph was excellent and a real loss. She should go back as it suited her better than her new ventures.

I totally agree with each if your observation per presenter, feel exactly the same!
dottypotter · 10/10/2020 15:36

why dont you apply for the job?

Elderflower14 · 10/10/2020 15:40

Can't stand Naga Hagger (Munchetty)... Always remember Louise Minchin being all silly and asking Philip Glenister to call her Bollie Knickers when he was on their plugging A2A... It was toe curling... Bill Turnbull was the best... He's living near me now and often on local news protesting against Sizewell C.

Spacecudet · 10/10/2020 15:51

I love the BBC Breakfast presenters. I wasn't sure about Naga at first, but I love her dry sense of humour. She doesn't take any rubbish from the people she is interviewing, and so she is really interesting watch. I used to love Bill and Sian when they were on as well. For me Carol Kirkwood is a bit meh, I don't get why she keeps winning awards.

oldmum22 · 10/10/2020 16:43

I am afraid Naga gets switched off in our house ,if she is on Breakfast . She comes across as being quite patronising to her co presenter Charlie Stayt. I think there is a good team at the moment but I do agree they should bring back Steph McGovern as she has a great ability with guests.

Tenementfunster · 10/10/2020 17:35

I don’t think Charlie is a morning person

I love Naga. She’s the only thing stopping it being utterly saccharine
There was a rare moment of levity the other week when Naga and Charlie were laughing about the last time he’d seen a beaver. 😂

Tenementfunster · 10/10/2020 17:35

Bloody love Steph

I miss Bill and Sian, they were the best.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 10/10/2020 20:52

I know Naga socially. She is very funny, doesn't take any crap and looks irritatingly gorgeous without a scrap of makeup.
She also won't give a toss what most people think of her.

frewer · 11/10/2020 09:46

I never thought I would leave the BBC in the morning, I liked the presenters and the calmness. But the pandemic changed things, I wanted ministers to be challenged and when I occasionally switched over, I actually enjoyed Piers Morgan ranting away, it livened up lockdown.

It's hard to watch BBC now, it feels over regulated and dull, no matter who's presenting.

REDLIPSTICKANDNAILS · 11/10/2020 09:53

Naga is stunning and has the most amazing shoes. I love her.

Virgo1958 · 11/10/2020 10:16

Naga's shoes are great but that's where it ends. Her 'jokes' often at the expense of someone else on the show are cringy and unprofessional.

JamminDoughnuts · 11/10/2020 10:21

i dont watch it but i very occasionally catch the afternoon news and do like Simon McCoy

ILikeTrains · 11/10/2020 12:08

They should have kept Steph, she's just what breakfast tv needs.

I agree with pp that said Naga isn't suited to breakfast tv - she is far too abrasive for early mornings, I turn it off if she's on as it makes me cringe when she speaks to the guest, there's just no genuine warmth to her, when she tries to nice it comes across as insincere or patronising. She would be better on Crime watch or Watch dog or daily politics - somewhere that her bluntness would be appreciated. She's a bit Anne Robinson in her ways.
