New drama which chronicles the individual journeys of a man and woman who arrive on a mysterious island at different times

3 parts - summer ,autumn and Winter And 7 episodes

Summer follows Sam (Jude law) drawn to the island

Autumn will be a live episode after summer is shown

Winter follows Helen a strong willed outsider who comes to the island seeking answers

Hope it’s not like lost which I never watched but hear ending was crap

But

It’s has The very sexy Mark Lewis Jones in it

Blonde swoons

I watched it, I thought it was quite good in a strange sort of way, lots of strange camera angles though which may put some off. There was a lot in it though and I’m not sure that I took everything in. I had to look at a recap online afterwards to make sure I hadn’t missed an important point

Jodri · 16/09/2020 17:01

I watched it. Thought it was good. Very eerie and yes a lot to take in. How creepy was Paddy Considine character! I Loved the cinematography, the way they enhanced and drained the colour from certain scenes.
Very ominous and forboding and a bit reminiscent of the wicker man (the seminal Edward Woodward film: the one with Nicholas cage didn’t happen!). Wasn't expecting the actions of the young girl though.

Much better than hbo’s lovecraft country which is completely different to the book (I’m so disappointed!) and I think has turned into a pastiche of an American horror story series. It’s a shame because I couldn’t put the book down.

I heard the third day was created by the folk who did the channel 4 series Utopia, which was superb, so looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2020 18:27

I needed a recap

Jodri At last I've found another Utopia fan
Incidentally there's an upcoming American version of Utopia adapted by Gillian Flynn (Sharp Objects, Gone Girl) arriving on Amazon Prime on 25th September.

pimble · 17/09/2020 01:32

Utopia is one of my favourite programmes, I'm going to give this a go tomorrow

Jodri · 17/09/2020 06:45

Yes utopia was very good. Cast were brilliant. I enjoyed the Opening episode of series 2; the jump in time and appearance of Tom Burke and rose Leslie were especially brilliant. I don’t have amazon prime but my brother does so will get home to look out for it. Thanks @Mutunus

Boredsilly · 17/09/2020 07:06

I watched this last night I don't know what to think about it very atmospheric, the music the characters etc reminded me a bit of the film Midsommar - definitely something up with the people in the village they are all a bit creepy

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/09/2020 07:18

They are all a bit weird

Esp the wife

Plus the whole pub singing a song about sam Escaping

Money but the wife had it but got stolen ?

I gave up half way through the second episode I’m afraid! Maybe will go back to it if I’ve got nothing better to watch.

pimble · 23/09/2020 15:48

I gave up too :( I loved utopia but this was just too strange

Boredsilly · 24/09/2020 22:28

Just finished episode 2 and don't think I'll give up, if it wasn't weird enough they did LSD! I have know idea what is going on!

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2020 19:49

I will stick with it

I need to concentrate and not mn 😂

I also love the recap e2

Anyone still watching this? I enjoyed the first 3 episodes with Jude Law. The one last night with Naomi Harris not so much. Her character was so bloody irritating that I was actually willing her a horrible death by the end of it. The eldest daughter is played by Nico Parker, Thandie Newton’s daughter, and she looks the absolute spit of her!

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/10/2020 16:33

Yes me. 3 was weird and the elaborate plan and kidnap

Haven’t seen woman one yet

Not sure when the live episode is on

@Blondeshavemorefun I think it was on HBO’s Facebook page on Saturday. I didn’t watch it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/10/2020 17:22

I went back to watch The third Day and I’m glad I did; I missed out the live episode though. Didn’t see the twist coming in episode 3.

Just watched the mother and thought it was good, Naomie Harris’ performance was particularly engaging. Still lots of unanswered questions and very atmospheric but it felt more mainstream mystery than the artsy summer.

I need to have a wee rant though;
What is it with drug taking in programmes these days? Lazy writing for pushing the plot along or an agenda to make drug taking legal? I am getting fed up with tv programmes and films making drug taking mainstream as I’ve seen the effects and deaths recreational drug taking can lead to.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2020 22:28

Glad you came back to it @Jodri

No I didn’t see the twist either

Or the live episode

Assume tomorrow she will find hubby and dead son

Highlights of the live episode Autumn is on nowtv; only one and half hours.

I watched a bit while knitting. Thought it was engaging and a bit like the slow tv stuff on bbc4 which I liked, but this was a lot more macabre.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/10/2020 21:52

Think it was on for 12 🙀🙀

But I don’t have now tv :(

I've watched 1-3 of Summer, All of Autumn as it streamed and the first one of Winter - mostly started because I'm friends and colleagues with one of the villagers. I was quite skeptical at the beginning of Autumn, but by 1pm the facebook group (which was watching together) were all calling for Jude Law to have a BAFTA and an Olivier for the role. I do know a few choice bits of behind-the-scenes titbits about the live stream, if anyone's interested! I thought the livestream was amazing, 1,2 and 3 were really well shot - the whole thing's been very carefully thought out.
