How is Mackenzie running around like that anyway, surely she's just had surgery which will have follow up appointments and be painful for quite a while?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/09/2020 12:48

Everyone recovers at lightening fast speeds on Ramsey Street - Emmet's broken vertebra only took a couple of days in a soft collar, and I've lost count of the number of miraculous recoveries from paralysis, @IHaveBrilloHair!

SunshineOutdoors · 15/09/2020 14:39

I hope if I’m ever so stressed and desperate I end up addicted to drugs and in an awful state because I was trying to juggle all the hard work in my life (not partying etc) my family and friends are nicer to me than Ramsay Street are to Shane.

Stellaris22 · 15/09/2020 15:54

Toadie saying he understands addiction is an illness as he had experience with Sonya, then being super judgemental anyway, annoyed me.

No wonder Shane was scared to ask for help considering the response he's getting.

Starburst8 · 15/09/2020 17:40

Mackenzie bad mouthing Roxy... Sssh ya mouth Mac.
Roxy is the only one that tried helping, yeah OK it didn't go well but at least she tried.
Mackenzie is the new Bea. Off down the well you go!

TomBradysLeftKneecap · 16/09/2020 00:10

I may be slightly biased as Shane is one of my favourite characters (I can't even believe I'm typing this shit. It's NEIGHBOURS!) but I would probably choose a drug addiction over the multiple emotional affairs wife too! #dipisucks

I also cannot stand Mackenzie. It's got nothing to do with the trans issue and everything to do with she's annoying as crap. And 18 and holding her own principal to ransom because a local hotel isn't environmentally friendly enough (another storyline that didn't make sense), telling a couple who have been married for 20 years how they should have their anniversary and, I could go on.

nameychange · 16/09/2020 07:55

Yep, I agree Mackenzie is a crap character - I think they just don’t quite know what to do with them. They have no family so no storylines there, they’ve done the trans story, so basically they’re just a random sixth former boarding with Toadie, Shane and Dipi. Hopefully they’ll apply interstate for uni!

Samcro · 16/09/2020 08:09

I am so glad I am not the only one who can't stand M.
such a pointless character. she lacks any personality and the idea that she would just take over without V saying something is bizarre.
Strange that everyone was supportive of Sonya, But horrid to Shane.

NemesiaPinkLagoon · 16/09/2020 10:54

Re. Shane it's not quite made clear why everyone is so upset. It doesn't seem like 'Neighbours' style to me. None of them have shown any compassion or effort to support him. He hasn't been to a doctor. I did like Toadie's initial reaction when he found Shane so hopefully they'll revisit that.

Quite why Roxy and Mackenzie are so devastated isn't made clear. I agree Mackenzie is too involved and talks to them like they are peers.

None of the stories are great at the mo! I wonder if the writing has somehow been affected by Covid restrictions?

Also why was Sheila throwing up? And her grandsons aren't bothered about it!

Stellaris22 · 16/09/2020 11:02

Sheila was ill because she tried to recreate a recipe of Gary's which used emu eggs.

I wanted to like Mackenzie but her attitude is quite irritating, definitely the new Bea.

Everyone is being horrible to Shane. Addiction has been covered before with Sonya and Terese, but with Shane no one has any compassion.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/09/2020 14:03

I can understand why Roxy is so upset - she genuinely tried to help Shane, but it has all blown up, and she's blaming herself for not managing to help him enough.

M irritates the snot out of me too. I am a gender critical feminist, so the trans story line did not sit well with me, but I'd have got past that if the character had been a good one, and M is just annoyingly self-righteous all the time, and needs telling she is just a teenager, with very little actual life experience, and she needs to button her lip and stop being such a meddler.

Starburst8 · 16/09/2020 14:14

The way everyone is treating Shane its almost like drug addiction is not acceptable whereas Alcohol addiction is. If you compare the treatment of Sonya, Terese and Shane. The former two have had sympathy and help from everyone.
Shane just gets nothing. I'm wondering if Neighbours is taking a stand with "don't do drugs"
I get it, I mean I'm not supporting taking drugs but addiction is addiction and shouldn't they all get compassion and support all the same?

SleepingStandingUp · 17/09/2020 19:15

I think it very much is the addition Vs drugs thing.

Most of us drink. The gateway drink to alcoholism is the wine after work or the whiskey late at night etc.
Most people don't take drugs, and are judgemental over even the odd spliff or tab, let alone cocaine or ketamine.

Alcohol is legal, so the only issue is abusing it.
Drugs are illegal, so you're already doing something to be judged for even if you never do it now then once.

I think it reflects societal attitudes to the misuse of alcohol and drugs tbh. I would feel more judgemental over someone abusing drugs than alcohol although I hope I'd still be nice and supportive

OP posts:
Starburst8 · 17/09/2020 19:47

I totally agree with you. Like you said alcoholism is more acceptable because of how it comes about.
I would like to see them be a bit more supportive though

KatieKat88 · 17/09/2020 20:16

For me it's because Shane was so absolutely vile to Roxy. Might have been the impact of the drugs but it bothered me how horrible he was. I can't summon up much sympathy for him!

On a separate note - can anyone link the latest H&A thread for me? Its dropped off my watching and I'm on lists for god knows what reason!

Starburst8 · 17/09/2020 20:42

@katie the spoilers thread? If so
It's here Flamin Spoilers you big galah - www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/3269413-Flamin-Spoilers-you-big-galah
Hopefully that's linked :)

@KatieKat88 agreed, he's acting like a complete dick so we all feel sorry for the Dip and Mack

OP posts:
Starburst8 · 17/09/2020 22:11

I don't feel sorry for Mack! This only effects her because she lives in the same house.
I feel sorry for Roxy, she tried helping him and now getting the blame

KatieKat88 · 17/09/2020 22:13

Cheers for the links! God no, not feeling sorry for Mac, she is so annoying! But I never thought I'd feel sorry for Dippi and I really do.

Why is Mackenzie being so horrible to Rose? She's acting like she is in charge of the office when it's just work experience. I rewound to see if Rose did accuse her of tampering with the laptop, but all Rose said was that she might have accidentally knocked it.

Wondering why Rose is being shifty though.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/09/2020 16:51

It's a Shane, I thought with Toadies recent questions for live Rose could have been an iron bit she's Def totally dodgy

Where has Faye suddenly gone and why isn't Jayne telling Nicolette to leave Chloe alone - not liking her

Sick of rude Mackenzie- too big for her boots patronising Rose even if she is up to no good
