I am sure this has been shown elsewhere some time ago but I didn't watch.

But tuned in for lack of anything else.

Wasn't really convinced by any of it, and the background music was so loud it was more foreground.

Wonder if it started the trend for turning history into a pop video style story telling.

And similarly showing that somehow although women were being exploited by men somehow they were pulling the strings.

Just finished the first series. Loved it.

Just to say in case any one didn't see it, but the BBC have started screening series 2 last night.

Seems a bit more over the top melodrama this time.

And was flogging a punishment for crimes in the community. I know it was at sea, but ... ??

Nearly finished series 2 on BBC i player. Are there any decent costume/historical drama series recommends on Netflix?

Series 3 is on bbc 2 tonight at 9pm.

Moll Flanders was fantastic must get it, the full version of course.

Took me a little time to get back into, and I suppose to keep it "fresh" they have to introduce new characters, but them seem more to be devices to big scences rather than really adding anything to the drama.

And it still has a sort of split mentality over whether it is really any sort of female empowerment, or just actual servitude.

And just to say I hope Lesley Manville is enjoying her part. Certainly gives her more scope than most of the other parts.

(I am assuming, that some of the treatments shown were actually carried out in that time. Scary.)

Hi. yes it took me a while to get back in to it on the first episode. I have watched episode and 3 on eye player. They were a bit better but not as good as series 2. Not watched Moll Flanders. Will search that out.

Sorry that should be watched episode 2 and 3.
