Hello All.

I hope it's bonza that I took the liberty of starting a second thread - just didn't want us gong walkabout in the bush (pardon my Fronch Grin) if we ran out of the other (whoops did it again!)

RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder "Did anyone notice that when they were discussing their dates and Michelle was so happy talking about hers (which was absolutely the better date and Sharon’s face said it all), and then Sharon waxed lyrical about the stupid funfair and teenage photo album making Michelle feel shit. She couldn’t let her have one moment with Jesse that was better than her and Nick. She had to crush it. Michelle really needs to move far away from her twin."

Goodness I kind of felt that too! Or a slightly toned down version of that. The fact Sharon called it a commentary or something because Nick had written a phew phrases in the scrap book!

Jesse's was the better date and Sharon should have let her enjoy it!

Cherylina · 29/07/2020 01:15

Made me laugh when AnTHony was going on about how "no one has heard the three words" when about three others actually have! Grin

RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder · 29/07/2020 04:53

Yeah, Susan and Sean are constantly saying those three words. Anthony doesn’t pay attention.

TheBeeatAmbridge · 29/07/2020 07:02

I'm just catching up on last night's show, found this brilliant thread and the previous equally brilliant one last night. Dear god I hope Jesse stops his door metaphor soon, it's getting so cringeworthy!

WhattheHhashappened · 29/07/2020 07:49

the soul-crushing realisation for Vanessa that Andy is sitting there with the Magic Roundabout theme on a loop in his head

Haha!! Brilliant!!

AltheaThoon · 29/07/2020 08:36

Nick is awful. I would have been gone after hearing about the strip club subscription. I have no time for any man who believes they can buy access to women's bodies. Sharon should ask him how he's feel if she became a stripper. He's probably one of these "it's okay for those girls but not my girl" guys.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 29/07/2020 08:40

We horrible as some of the contestants are the experts are the worst people in this show. They way they're almost salivating with glee when talking about their question cards, designed to create drama

I thought those questions were horrendous!

For heaven's sake - give people some privacy in their relationships. For individuals like Andy and Simon, who are very private people, things like that are torture! And for anyone except the most narcissistic and self-obsessed, even if they wanted to discuss their feelings, the dinner table with umpteen other people isn't the place. It's just cruel.

And totally agree that Sharon can't let her sister have even a moment of joy. She's poisonous, and the sooner Michelle gets out of her clutches the better - she won't, though - not unless she meets a man who manages to sweep her off her feet and persuade her that she is a worthy human being in her own right, and gets her away from that witch. I can't see it happening, sadly - and it is shame, because I think there is hope for her if she could get away from Shazz's clutches and bad influence.

I think that without being compelled to compare herself to Shazz, she could even have enjoyed her time with Jesse. I doubt she'd have stayed with him, but they could have had a lot of fun and just enjoyed each other's company. But her addiction to Mish and whatshername was up to ruined, any chance they had.

Comparison - the thief of joy.

Without a doubt. And he’d justify it by saying “I don’t go to the strip club when I’m in a relationship, so you shouldn’t be a stripper if you’re in a relationship”, and then when you pointed out that he’s essentially saying stripping is more than just a job and there’s a sexual element to it if he thinks they have to be single to work, then he’d splutter some crap about how empowering it is for them, but that he wouldn’t date a stripper for moral reasons.

It wouldn’t surprise me if her regularly visited prostitutes with his creepy friend.

He is a belligerent drunk too. His reaction to the questions last night was unpleasant. Sharon’s point about how she’s never actually been with him under normal circumstances, is perfectly legitimate. He took it as a personal attack.

I don’t even think the door is Jesse’s metaphor. I think the production team have said it to him and he’s just repeating their instructions over and over.
Like the great philosopher Else once said, he needs to let it go. I’m slamming the door on the door references (the cold never bothered me anyway).

lilgreen · 29/07/2020 08:49

Does make you wonder about the morals and professionalism of the ‘experts’ to go along with that stunt.

RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder · 29/07/2020 08:54

It would have been great to watch Michelle be matched with someone rich and charming. Sharon’s head would have exploded and she would have done everything she could to make Michelle hate him. I genuinely think the experts looked at the twins and said “we’ve got Jesse and Nick, which one for who?” And then based their decision entirely on the fact that as “just a cleaner” Michelle doesn’t have the same aspirations and so would be better suited to a market trader than “business owner” Sharon.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 29/07/2020 08:55

Absolutely - he could have just said "Sorry - I'm not prepared to discuss anything so personal in public"

I strongly suspect that Shazz has "bigged up" her relationship with him to make Michelle jealous - and also because she can't admit to anyone else that she'd rather be sticking pins in her eyes than looking at badly-captioned photos of her and Nick. (He didn't even caption them neatly - it was scrawled (as much as you can scrawl printed capitals) and messy.

I am coming round to the opinion that she was on the point of tears as she looked at them not because she was overcome with tender emotions, but because she was disappointed because she thought he would buy her a tiara.

She wouldn't have been able to bear it!

She'd have been out of the show by the second "stop or go" week.

It really was just to introduce drama, wasn’t it. Why on earth would Simon open up about his most private thoughts with that horrible, unsupportive group, when he’s only just started opening up to Alene. The judgement of him for deflecting was despicable.

I thought Andy answered very well, but it’s not enough in the long term. They will be happier apart.

Nick just got belligerent.

Anthony got the opportunity to say the right things without the background for why Nadia has doubts.

But I did love Susan’s shock reveal.

The experts have no interest in the people involved at all. I do feel sorry for everyone who agreed to be a part of it in good faith. Even those I don’t like would have had no idea they’d be vilified like this, and most of them are just a bit self involved really. They’re not terrible people, they’re just plonkers. Apart from a couple who I hope learn and change when they see what comes across.

I agree with everything here. I think she’s constantly spinning things.

It’s why I think she mentioned the dream (that probably never happened) she can then blame it for her ‘doubts’, as though they’ve just appeared and it’s not all been one long sham.

CatkinToadflax · 29/07/2020 09:02

I especially love AnTHony’s perceived wisdom that Susan and Sean can’t possibly last because he’s a horseman and I know about horsemen. No, AnTHony, you shout loudly on the radio when racing horses run past you at excessive speed. I very much doubt you have the faintest idea what Sean’s life is like. Now bugger off and put some socks on. 🙄

Italiangreyhound · 29/07/2020 09:02

AltheaThoon "I wonder if, I stead of doing MAFS AUSTRALIA which is a flipping huge country, it would be better to do MAFS Sydney / Brisbane / Darwin etc? It seems so cruel to match people who potentially could fall in love, to then expect them to move across the country away from their jobs, families and friends etc."

I agree. But it's a big country but a small population!

Love to see the UK versions - MAFS Watford, MAFS Bolton!

KrabbyPatties · 29/07/2020 09:04

Nick is trying to paint himself as reformed Neanderthal and the mask is slipping

Cheryl’s dad (Hamish Maitland) strongly reminds me of someone off the telly - and I can’t quite pinpoint who - but I don’t think he had a TV presence before his delightful cameo in MAFS.[/quote]
That must be it then. Thanks! Glad it’s not just me! I’ve been ta king my brain but still can’t think who it is he reminds me of. 🤔

1984andout · 29/07/2020 09:27

I hated the way Anthony took the cards off Nadia to read them. Like he didn't believe she has read them correctly

As much as I despise him, I thought Nadia has the potential to be a moody mare. At the dinner party she wasn't joining in and muttering under her breath. Making a right atmosphere.

KurriKawari · 29/07/2020 09:35

Yes to Anthony rereading the cards!!
And Nadia was being slightly passive-aggressive tbh.

RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder · 29/07/2020 09:41

I can’t believe I’m going to do this, but I’m going to defend Anthony! My dh processes stuff faster if he reads it rather than hears it. It could be that Anthony is just being controlling again, or it could be that he takes in information faster when he can read it.

I feel dirty.

Yes I briefly wondered this, as I process things more easily if I can read them rather than listening to someone else read them out, but I still thought AnTHony was being a dick there - it's great long paragraphs of text that I need to read myself, not one question!
WhattheHhashappened · 29/07/2020 10:07

I feel dirty.

So you should rinder! 😲

He used it as a delay tactic and to regain control. He might as well have said ‘Give me the cards woman, you’re not asking me anything’.

RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder · 29/07/2020 10:11

I suspect it is a combination of both. Poor poppet definitely needed to be thinking as fast as possible to get the answers right and Nadia back in her simpering, compliant box.

I just hope her response to his commitment ceremony vows is, “YOU CALLED ME FRIGID, YOU PRAT!”

YourVagesty · 29/07/2020 11:32

I think Anthony was actually really stressed hence the re-reading of cards. I don't think he could take the words in because his brain was imploding.
