An Indian take on Married At First Sight?

OP posts:
Helenheller · 19/07/2020 20:42

Loved it. Watched all of them in one day. Loved the stories at the beginning of couples that had been together for years. Some of the people were very demanding about what they wanted with no thought that they didn't have much to offer themselves.........
Really liked the school counsellor.

EggBoxes · 20/07/2020 07:06

I watched the first episode and found it a bit slow.

Loved it. So far I watched 3 episodes, but definitely going to do binge watching tonight haha! This lawyer from Houston is really annoying.

HollowTalk · 20/07/2020 20:18

I'm binge watching this, too! Don't know all the names yet but that woman who's a lawyer who went out with the lawyer... she was a nightmare!

HollowTalk · 20/07/2020 20:32

Aparna - she's the nightmare and her mother is, too.

catscatscatseverywhere · 21/07/2020 00:26

Ok. Akshay’s mother is even worse. OMG! She’s like indian version of Vito Corleone. I should really appreciate my parents more after I saw this.

FizzyPink · 21/07/2020 00:30

Oh my gosh I love it! I loved when Aparna’s mother said “I’m convinced the only reason she hasn’t met someone is because she’s just too busy”
More like she’s a complete nightmare!!

FizzyPink · 21/07/2020 00:31

Also, the guy who is the jewellery designer as foodie, does anyone else think he’s gay and that’s why he’s not interested in any of these girls?

Right?! I laughed when she said it. And she said “I might be wrong, but I don’t think so”. We can see where Aparna got her attitude from. She seems to be really frustrated with her life. Too many expectation, too little willingness to try to understand other people.
HollowTalk · 21/07/2020 16:28

Ashkay's mum really made me laugh - "But I want you to get married this year and your brother and SIL to have a baby next year. If you don't get married this year you will ruin it for everyone." He hadn't even met anyone and she was planning the wedding.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 21/07/2020 16:33

Watched the first episode last night.

What struck me the most was the insistence that their match was from a particular geographical location. I can’t imagine meeting a matchmaker in the US and stipulating that he had to have Belfast heritage!

ScarletAnemone · 21/07/2020 20:09

Yes, this. I feel so sorry for him if that’s the case. I just want the matchmaker to find some nice guys for him to date instead.
EggBoxes · 22/07/2020 07:56

I can't get in to this. I tried again after reading your posts, but no joy.

Aparna is so negative. I love to travel, but everywhere is shit.

The dancer woman is so beautiful and comes over as lovely, but keeps getting stood up, I wish they showed what was going wrong.

I'm enjoying it a lot.

Pancakeorcrepe · 22/07/2020 17:46

Aparna is really terrible, the same for her mum. Did you see the bit where her mum was saying two degrees wasn’t enough, her children had to have three degrees each? And “don’t come back with a B, you need to have an A in everything”? When Aparna talked about travel it sounded like she just goes to tick a box, not to actually enjoy the location. I love the dancer woman, she is so lovely.

Quackersandcheese3 · 22/07/2020 17:52

Oh I’ll try this out. Just started married at first sight Australia, which is so dramatic !

catscatscatseverywhere · 23/07/2020 13:29

Akshay is married WTF. He doesn’t even know what his name is. It was so cringe when he called his fiance and was like “tell me about yourself”. He literally doesn’t know what’s going on. And he said before this girl is smart on paper, but he will see if she’s smart lifewise. So pathetic. I would rather die than marry 25 year old boring grandpa.

Pancakeorcrepe · 23/07/2020 19:24

@catscatscatseverywhere I don’t think he gets married! It’s a pre-engagement ceremony and apparently the engagement and the wedding did not go ahead. His match seemed lovely, much to good for that Akshay, he is so critical of all the girls.

MadamBatty · 23/07/2020 19:41

is there a Season 2?

managedmis · 23/07/2020 19:43

Loved this! Aparna 😱 omg that girl was brutal! She told that guy right off, about beach holidays! Why would you need a 10 day break on a beach?

Confused
managedmis · 23/07/2020 19:44

Yip, I also thought the cute jewellery guy is gay

TeaAndHobnob · 23/07/2020 19:50

Total binge TV isn't it?

Loved it. Although I thought it ended in an odd place. I really wanted to know what happened with the teacher & the vet - I thought they were both lovely. And Nadia, I was gutted for her when she got stood up. And the woman with the clothing business, I liked her.

Some very strange characters though, Akshay and his mother - he barely had two brain cells to rub together and his mother was scary. It didn't matter to her who his bride was, she was irrelevant as a person, her thoughts and feelings, they just need someone to fill a slot in the house. But the clothes and jewels - omg!

And Aparna - something deeply wrong with that woman. So judgemental. No sense of humour at all.

Pancakeorcrepe · 23/07/2020 20:16

Yes Aparna was actively looking for someone without a sense of humour 😹 the matchmaker suggested “sense of humour” for the list and Aparna went “no, I don’t want that”. 😹😹😹 I don’t know how she has friends. And the way she berated one of the guys for enjoying being a lawyer?
