Or just more wheelie bin challenges?

Rafa got the last shot as it should be!

It still seems so weird that Wimbledon didn't happen Sad

They did a good job keeping us entertained and I'll let Tim have his moment because he has been busy building that car park.

Raahh · 12/07/2020 17:07

Yes, Tim has been quite busy I suppose Grin

Sorting out insurance.

Yep. Can't fault him there!

Fizzywinegum · 12/07/2020 19:13

Just caught up on the best of men’s finals - 2008 definitely deserved to be no 1.

Enjoyed watching the Borg/Mac tiebreak (sorry Jane)

Can’t believe it would have been the men’s final today - did you have the Pimms Raahh?

I’ve enjoyed watching some of the old matches - Loved Goran winning on People’s Monday. Did you listen to him on the podcast Spidey? He was very sweary!

I also enjoyed the wheelie bin challenge more than I thought I would Grin

What do we have to look forward to next? DH said that there was some doubt about US Open going ahead as there are so many cases in the US still. None of the players have seemed very enthusiastic about it when they’ve been asked.

And then who knows about the French Open?

Raahh · 12/07/2020 19:30

Fizzy I am sitting her with a Pimms now. Well, it's an AldiPimms, but it will do. Fake Pimms for Fake Wimbledon finals day Grin.

I really don't know what will happen with the tennis- I have a feeling that USTA will somehow force the US open/ US events to go ahead, come what may. It may or may not end in disaster- and I think it wrong to put players in such an awkward position. It's hard to say if the European events will go ahead, at this point either.

Middle of August really isn't that far off (as dd1, whose birthday is on the 16th, keeps reminding me).

I'm nervous about the whole return to school thing though, so I am really trying hard not to wish the weeks away!

I still feel like I've got the post grand slam gloom today - weird!

Wimbledon channel is re-running the 2001 Monday final today - just in case you've not managed to catch any of it over the last fortnight Grin

Fizzywinegum · 13/07/2020 11:18

I feel a bit like that as well Spidey - don’t quite know what to do with myself - might have to do some housework Shock

DH is working from home today as well - I’m still getting the Divorce lawyer adverts popping up!

I’m still ploughing through the Tennis Podcast - did Martina Hingis get a mention on any of the Wimbledon programmes? I think she was the youngest winner at 16. She sounded like a bit of a brat and kept falling off horses just before important matches!

Raahh · 13/07/2020 11:49

It's a grey, Blue Monday here. Sad. It was such a lovely day, yesterday, as well.

I think there were quite a few omissions from the Wimbledon shows (I get that they can't show everyone), but they did seem to focus on some quite a bit more than was necessary Grin.

I know Seles was not a major force at Wimbledon- her one final was a white wash- but it was the year before she was stabbed, and she never played properly again. She might have found her feet on grass, she was only 19. Her story makes me very sad (I like that she is good friends with Petra Kvitova now- awful circumstances to bond over, but they have a good friendship). Sadly Seles has gone through years of misery before finally finding peace with what happened.

And it wasn't as if it was a programme that only talked about the winners- look how much air time our Tim got!Grin.

Hingis was an odd one- very good as a youngster- but then there were the drug issues. Has she finally, actually retired now? She seemed to keep coming back!

Private I love watching old finals- but I think I am going to have to give myself a bit a break before I watch any of them again. I feel like I have seen them all a dozen times over Grin.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 13/07/2020 11:54

I don't think they mentioned Hingis. She was indeed a brat! She said some horrible things about other players and did some Kyrgios like underarm serves too. I really like watching her in the doubles though despite her personality Grin

Fizzywinegum · 13/07/2020 12:57

I think Hingis has finally retired from tennis - she did keep coming back. There was also the ill advised Strictly Come Dancing appearance - I think she might have gone out in the first week!

Maybe Wimbledon just focussed more on the players who were more willing to do interviews and the wheelie bin challenge?

It was awful what happened to Seles - still not sure if she has fully recovered mentally from it Sad

Raahh · 13/07/2020 13:30

I am only a couple of years older than Seles- I just can't imagine my life, basically defined by something so horrible at 19. Her attacker got away with it. Horrendous.

Raahh · 13/07/2020 13:33

True, Fizzy about the Wheelie bin challenge! I still wish Rafa would have done it, or similar. Maybe they didn't ask him. I get he would have been up for it.

I was surprised there was no 'zoom call' from Roger. Maybe he was worried about 'Super Stalker' Sue Grin.

I've just been reading about the dress Duchess Kate wore when she was speaking to Andy. It's got little tennis players on it. Cute.

Raahh · 13/07/2020 22:24

Oh, I like that.

It's been a funny day. I went shopping and wore a mask again. I don't like the smell. I don't know how ds manages 7/8 shifts at work in one!

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 14/07/2020 09:46

I’ve just been shopping wearing a mask Raahh - I don’t like it but thought I ought to get used to it as it’s going to be compulsory soon. I know what you mean about the smell - I don’t know if it’s the mask or me - yuk!

One man (not wearing a mask) was walking round coughing without even covering his mouth - double yuk! I still feel slightly traumatised after doing the weekly shop Hmm

I like Kate’s dress - I was thinking that I would quite like her job - only the Wimbledon bit though - couldn’t be doing with all that other royal nonsense! Don’t think I would fit in that dress though!

Raahh · 14/07/2020 09:50

I coulde definitely do the Wimbledon bit of Kate' job, Fuzzy. Sit and watch a few matches, get to the meet the players Grin.

OP posts:
Raahh · 14/07/2020 09:53

And as for the mask wearing, I think I am going to have to chew gum, or eat a mint before wearing one- my breathe isn't that bad I'm sure, but I don't usually spent time smelling it.

I'm glad I'm never out for more than an hour or so when we go shopping. Long shopping days out are in the past for now!

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 14/07/2020 09:55

I was thinking that when I was watching her last week Raahh - we’d probably get the sack for fangirling over Rafa though Grin

Raahh · 14/07/2020 09:57

True- she probably has to be careful not to look biased (she's a big Roger fan, I think her dc have had 'lessons' with him).

I couldn't do that. Come to think of it, I just wouldn't fit in to the R in the first place.

PrivateSpidey · 14/07/2020 10:15

Grin yes the Wimbledon patron role would be brilliant. But agree I would find it impossible to stay neutral.

I love the dress.

magimedi · 15/07/2020 15:42

Excited & anxious al at once - day & a bit to go!!

Fizzywinegum · 15/07/2020 15:52

Have been thinking about you magi - fingers crossed
