Was it explained? (And is that sinister for real life Sad)

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/06/2020 10:33

And for some of the older people on here Budgie is on tonight on Talking Pictures Shock

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/06/2020 13:57

According to the Fb page most of the old episodes can be found on youtube, I might go back to the beginning and start again Smile

Raahh · 16/06/2020 14:10

Peter Lloyd mentioned in the FB live thing that one of the reasons he thought the Beeb might not be willing to show all the episodes from the start, would be cost of repeat fees. He didn't know for definite, he was answering for himself, but I suppose it makes sense.

There are a lot of actors and other people involved in 20 years of programming (even if lots of them appear several times over)- it would cost a lot to pay them all, I suppose. And there are a few famous faces who might want more money Grin.

blamethecat · 17/06/2020 06:11

Only managed to watch yesterday (on lunch at work).
Val was brilliant !
Al was just very Al, so again brilliant.
Jimmi, well I see what they were doing with front line staff struggling to cope, but there aren't usually any patients so why bother in this episode ?
Rhuma, I was hoping for a better outcome.
Gobby, again ultimate gobby Grin, her make up was really good, she looked younger.
I thought zaniel were back together, but are they ? I've missed loads as I only watch at work.
Regarding tying up storylines when it comes back, it doesn't usually happen does it ?

ExpletiveDelighted · 17/06/2020 07:20

It did seem a bit odd that couples who live together couldn't film together (Zaniel, Gobbies) but they don't in real life so couldn't.

I thought Emma looked younger too.

I suspect we will never find out exactly how Ruhma's disciplinary went, the Gobby foster teenager will have disappeared, Tanya will never be mentioned again.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 07:43

I think they at least tried to make it look like the Gobbies were in the same house. Zaniel haven't officially moved back in together, still have their own houses. Even so, it was odd that were so separate, after all the recent story lines have been about them getting back together, and they have been spending a lot of time together.

I liked that they brought Immie back- but that made the fact Sid wasn't there even stranger, since the last time she was on, they had a bit of a fling, and were close becase of her health scare. I would have expected her to mention him?

The fact some of them looked better, just shows how mean the hair and make up department are to them normally Grin.

blame it's very true that after the summer break, most of the storylines don't get resolved, and things are just forgotten about (by the writers, not by us!Grin).

I was a bit worried to see on FB that it said Doctors will return in the 'autumn' that suggests a far longer break than usual- it usually re-starts early September, and that isn't Autumn to me, even in the mish mash of seasons that is Letherbridge. Grin

ExpletiveDelighted · 17/06/2020 07:48

Well, if they don't start filming till July and then have a lot of restrictions I suppose it will take till autumn to get enough in the can.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 08:04

Expletive I knowSad.

It's rubbish. Plus, it will be very different, I imagine, they said lots of out door storylines for example.

We will probably see a lot of first responder SidGrin.
The fact they very rarely have any patients in the actual surgery, should make social distancing easier. Grin.
Hopefully- far less Ruhma. Midwives are very hands-on, and we can't have that. Might as well just get rid.

Grin.

ExpletiveDelighted · 17/06/2020 09:55

From what they said about not being able to use PPE on set they won't be able to do any treatment apart from Jimmi counselling via Zoom. At our GP all patients and clinical staff have to wear masks now. My friend who is a midwife says they have to wear the high grade fitted masks to deliver babies now so hopefully that rules out too many Ruhma stories.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 11:02

Expletive my niece is a student midwife and she says it is very odd now with all the new things they have to do.

I would not be sorry to see the end to the baby boom in Letherbridge- but I don't think I'm ready for a an influx in post -lockdown counsellingGrin.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 11:07

I remember early on, when Holby went off air, reading that they gave away a lot of the PPE they had used on set, to the NHS, (Holby/Casualty do tend to be slightly more realistic than Doctors. Grin. ).

I say slightly. They have had their own far-fetched storylines of late too.

It's very odd with all the soaps running out of episodes and things. Hollyoaks have made a rod for their own back, because they are committed to a storyline that has to come to a head on NYE this year (last NYE was a flash forward episode)- so that must be a bit of a headache.

CrouchingTraceyHiddenLadders · 17/06/2020 17:04

Very late thanks for the new thread, I've still got the old one on watch as I've not watched all of last week's yet.
I've just seen Owain the weatherman on BBC 1 news playing the drums, what a wonderful man! Wish we had him as a weather forecaster.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 17:13

Crouching I love Owain, he is the highlight of my day Grin.

ExpletiveDelighted · 17/06/2020 17:21

I've been sneaking over to BBC NW at the end of the local news to see if Owain's on and have found that our old BBC South presenter Roger Johnson is there now, nice to see a familiar face. It's weird but interesting watching news from another part of the country Smile.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 18:06

Expletive I am have a soft spot for Roger too. I like all of the team really, Owain had big boots to fill, after Dianne Oxberry died, but he is great. I am always a bit disappointed when it isn't him (and feel bad thrn for whoever it is Grin).

Binglebong · 17/06/2020 19:32

So turns out without work I plan my day around Doctors. I am now adrift....

FuzzyPuffling · 17/06/2020 19:40

I think we all are Bingle. All of us lost and drifting...

OP posts:
ExpletiveDelighted · 17/06/2020 19:45

We'll just have to hang out here till it comes back.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 19:56

Put it this way, over on the tennis thread, we've managed to waffle about all sorts for months with no live tennis at all to watch (until last weekend). So I'm really good at just wittering about anything! Grin

ExpletiveDelighted · 17/06/2020 20:24

Me too, my kids roll their eyes at how much time I spend nattering. Anyone else have thunderstorms today?

Raahh · 17/06/2020 20:37

It has been very thundery today, in fact we have just had one. DD1 had just gone out for a walk...

Grin
Raahh · 17/06/2020 20:39

I'm trying to stay awake for Sewing Bee. It is a standing joke that that is the only way I know what day it is, by what programme is on.

I'm doomed when they all finish!

ExpletiveDelighted · 17/06/2020 20:45

I'm working Sundays now so I am permanently one day out. It totally feels like Thursday today. I'm watching the Repair Shop while I wait for Sewing Bee.
