Oooh no but loved the book! Is it good?

Linnet · 23/05/2020 01:15

I haven’t read the book, I tried but just couldn’t get into it, but I watched the first two episodes tonight and I liked it. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of it.

BumbleBeee69 · 23/05/2020 01:22

I've just watched it .... brilliant series but I personally feel Kerry Washington is the wrong choice for the lead role .. she is neither pleasant nor watchable... her facial expressions alone leave you wondering why she took the role 🤔 ... everyone else is phenomenal .. particularly the young teen cast as Washingtons daughter Pearl and the young teen cast as Izzy... just brilliant 😊

Very enjoyable ... 🌺

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 23/05/2020 01:25

I saw the trailer and intrigued. Any good?

BumbleBeee69 · 23/05/2020 01:26

great story ... I enjoyed it

WantToLeaveButItsHard · 23/05/2020 01:29

I've not actually watched it! I've cancelled my Prime subscription and it ends next week. This has prompted me to ask about this show, because I've seen all the adverts.

its on Kodi

Moongirl10 · 23/05/2020 01:39

I feel the same about Kerry Washington. Not the personality I imagined Mia to have at all from reading the book and her facial expressions really bug me. Also I feel like they added a bunch of sex scenes that weren’t in the book 🙈

BumbleBeee69 · 23/05/2020 01:44

Yes its very disappointing from the 'casting' perspective .. I hope theres a second season .. is that a possibility ?

LittleLebowski · 23/05/2020 06:19

"It's Saturday......!" (exits bog in Laura Ashley nightie...)
I really enjoyed it - haven't read the book, but Reese Witherspoon's character and indeed her relationship with Joshua Jackson are so similar to Big Little Lies - I will end up calling it 'big little fires everywhere' I'm sure. I'm glad that people feel Kerry Washington was not the best casting fit as I didn't like her either. Agree all the kids are good though.

DarkDarkNight · 23/05/2020 20:51

I’m just finishing a series off then I’m going to start this. I loved the trailer.

EachandEveryone · 23/05/2020 20:52

Yes Im just wondering if Reese Witherspoon is a one trick pony.

BumbleBeee69 · 23/05/2020 21:26

Yes Im just wondering if Reese Witherspoon is a one trick pony.

funnily enough we had the same conversation..

DarkDarkNight · 23/05/2020 21:32

The titles are very similar aren’t they?

I love Joshua Jackson, so it’s an added bonus.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/05/2020 21:35

Just finished ep1. I've also downloaded the book on Audible.

Man, RWs character really needs Mumsnet doesn't she?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/05/2020 21:36

Have you seen The Morning Show?

I don't think k RW is a one trick pony. I think she picks stories with excellent characters.

BumbleBeee69 · 23/05/2020 22:24

Yes I've seen The Morning Show.. brilliant just brilliant Grin

Nowifi · 23/05/2020 23:45

I'm watching it now, very similar to Big Little Lies in a way but I'm liking it as I loved that! I've never seen Kerri Washington in anything before, so not sure what to make of her!

OllyBJolly · 24/05/2020 09:22

I loved the book and was prepared to be disappointed with the series. Not at all; thought it was brilliant. Only watched first episode and if I can get some stuff done today might watch another couple.

I agree that Pearl's mother isn't quite the character in the book -yet. The other actors I feel are pretty spot on. Pearl is superb, as is Izzy. RW is good; I've not seen her much in anything else. The whole Richardson family is well portrayed. Looking forward to the rest.

kaleidoscopeantebellum · 24/05/2020 09:30

Kerri Washington is great in Scandal. I've just started it, pretty impressed so far. Keep forgetting it's set in the 90s though lol.

BumbleBeee69 · 24/05/2020 11:54

was the book much different OllyBJolly ? I loved the tortured character Izzy..the young actress was great bless her Flowers

TurkeyBasterHopeItWorks · 24/05/2020 11:56

I'm half way through the series which is a good sign because I often bin series after one episode if they don't capture my attention! I've found I want to know what happens. It's not in my top 10 of best series ever but certainly different and worth a try.

MargotB7 · 24/05/2020 12:00

I'm just planning to watch the last 3 episodes instead of the many jobs I should be doing, really enjoying it.

BumbleBeee69 · 24/05/2020 14:45

I feel the ending justifies another season.. I wasn't aware of the book until I watches it.. but the ending certainly leaves the option.. here's hoping Grin

EachandEveryone · 24/05/2020 14:54

Be careful what you wish for. When they did that with Big Little Lies the second season was terrible.
