Anybody watched this on Prime?

OP posts:
NameChange84 · 24/05/2020 15:00

Just on episode 2...LOVING IT! Haven’t read the book though.

MargotB7 · 24/05/2020 21:00

Be careful what you wish for. When they did that with Big Little Lies the second season was terrible.

I didn't finish it. I thought it was just me.

MargotB7 · 24/05/2020 21:01

I've finished Little Fires everywhere, I loved it.

Boredsillyathome · 24/05/2020 21:40

I tried to read the book but couldn't get into it but really enjoying watching it so far I'm on episode 2. Agree with the others about Kerry Washington she doesn't seem to fit the character been a bit mis cast.

BeardedMum · 24/05/2020 22:37

Just watched episode 1. I though the kids were excellent but I really like the book and Kerry Washington is not how I pictured Mia. I am in two minds whether to continue watching as KW as Mia just really puts me off.

MarshaBradyo · 24/05/2020 22:39

Watching it now. All of them are spot on except the Mia actress. I find her almost unwatchable too. Such odd facial expressions.

RW is excellent in that type of role.

UmmH · 25/05/2020 00:26

I just binged on the whole series. Loved it! I haven't read the book so had no image of what Mia should be like. I thought Kerry Washington played the part with great depth. Last thing I saw Reece Witherspoon in was Cruel Intentions, lol. I can't imagine how series two would work, with half the cast having left the town.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 25/05/2020 03:06

Really enjoyed the series despite the ridiculous over acting by Kerry Washington 🙄

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/05/2020 08:05

She just always looks so so angry. Watched a scene last night where I think the idea was that KW comes to the realisation that she just doesn't help her dd with her troubles. Her face just looked like she hated her dd.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/05/2020 08:08

Last thing I saw Reece Witherspoon in was Cruel Intentions

Ooh you have so much to catch up on!

Tv- The Morning Show, Big Little Lies
Movies - Sweet Home Alabama, Pleasantville, Leggaly Blonde (1&2), Walk the Line, Wild, Water for elephants

She's done more, but these are the best (imo)

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/05/2020 08:09

Oops Legally

MarshaBradyo · 25/05/2020 09:29

Yep KW looks so angry the whole time. It’s really weird acting. And the lip twitching, odd.

The story line is really good. I’d read the book but forgotten.

The children are excellent, their acting is spot on.

EachandEveryone · 25/05/2020 12:20

What was she like in the book?

UmmH · 25/05/2020 22:05

Angry? If I'd been Mia I'd have slapped Elaine and pushed her down the stairs Grin

EachandEveryone · 27/05/2020 09:51

I really enjoyed it and had no idea what KW was supposed to be like.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/05/2020 10:13

We loved this and thought Kerry/Reece were amazing in the roles

The screen fizzled when they were on together

MarshaBradyo · 27/05/2020 10:22

I finished it last night.

KW grew into it for me. There was a scene with RW where she knocked it out of the park.

The last one made me emotional

ihearttc · 28/05/2020 09:29

I absolutely love it! The actress that plays Pearl is amazing as is the actress that plays Izzy. I have a huge thing for Joshua Jackson so that helps me watching it...I managed a season of The Affair before giving up!
I’ve got the last episode to watch tonight then I’m watching Big Little Lies (I’ve read the book years ago but never watched it cause I thought they’d ruin it)

MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2020 09:41

Oh I loved JJ too. He was so good.

BaconAndAvocado · 28/05/2020 18:08

SPOILER ALERT

Wow! I loved this series and sobbed at the end for Izzy. Finished watching it on Tuesday night and it's stayed with me.

The teen cast were exceptional. The story was excellent (I've not read the book) and I thought the way it explored mother/daughter relationships was very insightful.

I also enjoyed the character development, getting to see how they became who were they were in later life.

Both main actresses were good. Although the Mia character was so bloody miserable!

The part where Reece Witherspoon yells, "yes you are perfect!" was so powerful and brought to mind how parents can sometimes try and create a mini-me in their child.

Wonder it there's a second series ??

MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2020 18:14

It’s stayed with me too and I sobbed. I’m going to get mnhq to put spoiler alert in title so I can add the bits I liked. Hang on...

LouMumsnet · 28/05/2020 18:58

Evening all. We're just nipping in to let you know that we've added a spoiler warning to the thread title, as requested, so you can chat away to your hearts' content.

And now I'm racing away again to avoid seeing any spoilers as I've not seen this series yet....

Grin
MarshaBradyo · 28/05/2020 19:03

Thanks LouMn

The part where RW yells I never wanted you made me cry and cry

And the bit where KW says your dd had the abortion was so strong

Izzy was brilliant
The husband so good when he says be quiet in court house
The boyfriend of Lexy was excellent

BaconAndAvocado · 29/05/2020 11:04

Marsha yes all those bits you mentioned were excellent.

The bit about the red feather and the bird rejecting it's chick was so meaningful and hilighted how tiny moments can affect children so much and for so long.

And I thought it was so pertinent that the other children in the family set light to the house. They were always aware of their mother's toxicity and controlling ways......kids pick up on injustices/family dynamics more than we realise!

I think Joshua Jackson tried to help Izzy a bit but it wasn't enough to dilute RW's horrendous parenting of her. Which I guess goes back to her not wanting a fourth child and her career being affected. Izzy was the symbol of those times.

Sorry for waffling......!

BlackSwan · 29/05/2020 13:24

Isn't it horrendous when Madeline goes through with Mia's insemination knowing she's a virgin. Supremely selfish. I lost sympathy for her and her husband at that point.
