Do you think that This Morning is aimed more at the middle classes or the working classes?
I personally think that it is aimed towards the middle classes.

Well it's on in the day time when most workers are working so...

Pelleas · 18/04/2020 17:24

I've often wondered who daytime TV is aimed at - most of it seems too dull to be of interest to anyone.

moveandmove · 18/04/2020 17:27

What's with the obsession with class on here? I never think of which class things are but on here it's questioned regularly. Why? Genuine question.

Year6teacher754 · 18/04/2020 17:38

@moveandmove

Sorry if I upset you or anything but I was just asking a question and wanted peoples opinion on it.

I think it's aimed at people who are at home in the middle of the morning. So, stay at home parents and retirees.

Ulver · 18/04/2020 17:40

Working class and retired.
No one watches terrestrial TV anymore unless they are in those brackets imo.

Danglingmod · 18/04/2020 17:41

Neither really, just people at home but, out of the two, working class... It's on ITV, for gawd's sake Grin

hopeishere · 18/04/2020 17:42

Working class. It's all celebrities and Take A Break type scandal / weird stuff. And affordable fashion.

Can you imagine Ben Fogel and Kirsty Allsop presenting it?

Lots of people for whom it matters. Social ladder climbing types. As any well-developed class thread on here will tell you, those with real class don't care about class signifiers.

Angellegna · 18/04/2020 17:45

The working class and below, without question.

It’s very, very dumbed down.

tiredanddangerous · 18/04/2020 17:45

Stay at home parents and retired people I suppose. I last watched it when I was breastfeeding my youngest (she’s now 10.) I do watch tv in the day but Netflix or a sky box set. It wouldn’t occur to me to put terrestrial tv on!

Working class no question. It is like a TV version of a trashy magazine.

MissingLinker · 18/04/2020 17:51

Neither, really. I think of it as a way of keeping old people company.

MissingLinker · 18/04/2020 17:54

Still, it only took a few posts for someone to associate the working classes with "dumbed down".

bettybattenburg · 18/04/2020 18:01

Dumbed down for the unwashed masses with poor education if you believe stereotypes

sanealaddin · 18/04/2020 18:02

It wouldn't occur to me that it's a class thing. I've been watching it on and off over the last few weeks as I'm not working. I wouldn't watch it normally. I'm not fussed on Phil and Holly but I like Eamonn and Ruth. What would make it aimed at middle class?

Crystal87 · 18/04/2020 18:06

I think the content is quite middle class but the people who end up watching it are stay at home mums and those on benefits and out of work. Nothing against those as I am a stay at home mum and I've been on benefits.

AgentProvocateur · 18/04/2020 18:06

I don’t think it’s aimed at a particular class, but i think most daytime TV is aimed at poorly educated people who like to be spoon fed opinions.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/04/2020 18:08

It’s pretty low brow stuff most of the time so I think that’s a clue really.

ADreamOfGood · 18/04/2020 18:20

Those with no class?

ADreamOfGood · 18/04/2020 18:21

I am fascinated to know @Year6teacher754 which elements of the programme you think are aimed at the middle classes?

@ADreamOfGood @sanealaddin

The content and the way that the programme is presented makes it aimed at the middle classes.

@Crystal87
Yes the content is very middle class.
