Do you think that This Morning is aimed more at the middle classes or the working classes?
I personally think that it is aimed towards the middle classes.

I always used to watch it as a student in 90's but obviously it was with Richard and Judy and the dodgy weatherman on the floating map.

Artesia · 18/04/2020 19:26

Not sure it’s a class thing, but it’s definitely aimed at the hard of thinking

DameXanaduBramble · 18/04/2020 19:31

I don't know but it’s depressing as fuck.

I'm not sure "class" is considered when scheduling content as much as who's actually watching, typically it's retired people, new Mum's and people off sick

Initially I questioned their decision to stay on air during lockdown (are they really essential and all that) but I'm glad they are still on it's providing a very tiny sense of normality and given the rest of lockdown tv I'm glad they take care of the whole morning 😂

bettybattenburg · 18/04/2020 19:39

What is it about the content that makes it middle class?

TheWordmeister · 18/04/2020 19:45

Daytime TV is a working-class construct full stop. I am WC, btw.

Having watched a bit of TM during lockdown, I can say ith authority that it's aimed at the brain-dead.

BentNeckLady · 18/04/2020 19:46

🤣

YY to “The Lobotomised”

Juanmorebeer · 18/04/2020 19:51

It's aimed at whoever is not working and home during the day so retired or unemployed people. It is proper rubbish though. I've never properly seen it. I don't think I know one single person who watches morning shows.

This Morning is absolutely rubbish. I’d rather watch paint dry.

Amazed you think its middle class.
It's brain numbingly bad and very much lowest common denominator.

I worked in tv buying and it is/was traded against broads, so AD, HW and HW+CH
It over indexes massively for C2DE and W55+ ie. unemployed, downmarkets and/or retired.

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 18/04/2020 20:13

Working class

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 18/04/2020 20:14

MC people don't watch daytime telly 🤷🏻‍♀️

ADreamOfGood · 18/04/2020 20:15

What is the content that is middle class then?
Do they discuss how to find a good accountant? The best instrument to learn to get your child into a decent orchestra? Whether to give in and get a Merc or an Audi, or to continue to pretend you don't care about labels and carry on driving your Citroen into the ground?
Which grapes have had the best vintage this year and are worth laying down in your cellar? Which independent schools are likely to fold in the covid19 crisis? Has Sardinia had its day, and is Corsica the new Sardinia? Bristol or Durham- which university is better suited to people like us?

Danglingmod · 18/04/2020 21:14

Weren't they recently discussing whether the Barbican or the ROH had the best season? Oh, wait...

Year6teacher754 · 19/04/2020 08:04

After thinking about it, it is probably aimed at stay at home mums and mums on MAT leave.

I’m a sahm - I wouldn’t watch that drivel.
Just because I’m a sahm it doesn’t mean I’m an idiot

Just because something is targeted at your demographic, doesn't mean you will automatically like it.

Megan2018 · 19/04/2020 22:41

On on mat leave, have seen a small bit of it but I rarely watch live TV, I watch recorded things and Netflix like most of the population these days. I’d rather binge watch Ozarks or Narcos than daytime TV.
It’s quite entertaining for about 5 mins, I’d not seen it since I was a student! I find it hard to believe people watch the whole show though.
There’s nothing middle class about it. The advertising around it tells you that much.
