Sarah Lancashire/Nicola Walker

Watched The Split and became a huge fan of Nicola Walker. Someone recommended Last Tango in Halifax which I loved, and also fell for Sarah Lancashire.

Can someone tell me which series to watch next? My job means I travel a lot so never watch drama series as I struggle to commit to certain nights, and then never have time for catch up. Due to current circumstances I have LOADS of time!

What should I watch?

Anna Maxwell Martin is making a splendid job of narrating The Mill on the Floss on R4 over last week and this.

She was indeed amazing in LOD.

@Shosha1 What's Crossing Lines?

I've just finished series 3 of Unforgotten. So good. I'll give River a try. I love all the programmes listed so far.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 17/04/2020 09:51

On the strength of this thread I downloaded the first episode of Unforgotten.

It's ... ok. Normal TV level entertainment. (But I don't own a TV because I can live without most of it.) I can see the story might develop in interesting ways but there's just nothing innovative about the form of this show.

dontblameme · 17/04/2020 10:14

@Perdita Series 2 of Unforgotten is the best IMHO

Shosha1 · 17/04/2020 11:04

@SavageBeauty73. It is a police drama, set on The Hague. It investigates all over Europe.
It stars Donald Sutherland, and lots of people I cant remember.er their names as well as Stuart Martin and Naomi Faye Battrick from Jamestown.

SavageBeauty73 · 17/04/2020 11:41

@Shosha1 Sounds great! I'll start tonight x

Is series 3 of Unforgotten streaming anywhere now? I’ve only seen series 1-2 and would love to see the last. Really like Sanjeev Bhaskar in it as well as NW.

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 18/04/2020 10:40

Season 3 of Unforgotten is available on Amazon Prime.

I loved Unforgotten and River, she's fabulous in that too. I love these actresses.

SavageBeauty73 · 18/04/2020 10:43

Series 3 is also on Netflix. It's excellent.

Extracurricularfatigue · 18/04/2020 10:55

Excellent! That’s next week sorted, thanks.

Just binge watched Unforgotten at the weekend. Wow- what an excellent drama. Fabulous casts, so well written and superb acting. I cried at the end of each one. Might be the best thing I've watched. Thanks everyone for your recommendations.

Now to seek out Happy Valley.

Happy Valley is on Netflix.

dontblameme · 20/04/2020 21:21

A Mother's Son on ITV right now, a repeat from 2012. Written by the same guy as Unforgotten. Nicola Walker and lots of other big names.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 20/04/2020 21:27

That reminds me of MotherFatherSon, in which Sarah Lancashire was frankly weird in a small part. Helen McCrory was outstanding (and quite fabulously beautifully dressed).

Bargainhuntbore · 20/04/2020 21:27

Its a repeat? Never knew!

Extracurricularfatigue · 21/04/2020 10:44

Finished Unforgotten series 3. Thanks for the tip off.

OllyBJolly · 04/05/2020 17:39

Now finished both series of Happy Valley. It was very well written and the acting was superb. (although the end of series 2 was a bit odd. I'm sure an experienced police officer would not chase and corner a suspect). I found the violence a bit hard to take. I'm not convinced the crimes had to be quite so brutal for the plot to work.

Will look out for River and Collateral.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Flowers

Nicola Walker is outstanding in everything. I rewatched all 3 series of Unforgotten recently. Amazing.

OllyBJolly · 12/05/2020 16:58

Finished watching Collateral. It was okay - don't think it was in the same league as Unforgotten or Happy Valley.

Going to make a start on River.
