I never before realised the importance of a studio audience. This just feels weird and not funny. They need to be together to play off each other.

OP posts:
Pelleas · 03/04/2020 21:48

I laughed out loud at 'technically a Count'.

PerspicaciaTick · 03/04/2020 21:49

I enjoyed it. It made me laugh out loud at times. I admit it has been a fucking horrible week and I was ready to laugh. It felt like they were entertaining each other rather than performing to an audience, I quite liked it.

Tonyaster · 03/04/2020 21:53

Steph is awful but Paul and Ian are funny

Concerned12345 · 03/04/2020 22:19

Thought Steph was great!

Clawdy · 03/04/2020 22:43

Just didn't work for me. Too much forced roaring laughter at each other's jokes. Love it usually, but switched off before the end.

SoupDragon · 03/04/2020 22:46

I thought they did a pretty good job given the circumstances. I do agree that they needed "audience" laughter but I'm not sure it would have worked as we know there is no audience.

SoupDragon · 03/04/2020 22:46

I think the very slight delay between them all made it a little stilted.

Icare1234 · 03/04/2020 22:48

Didn’t work for me, but will give it another try next week. Just watched Mash Report and enjoyed it a lot more.

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 04/04/2020 10:18

But why was Steph in the kitchen?

I presume they'd been told not to laugh too much or interrupt/talk over each other. It wasn't great but it was a good effort.

SoupDragon · 04/04/2020 10:23

Maybe the kitchen was the best place and furthest from her baby.

MrsGrindah · 04/04/2020 10:26

@Concerned12345 Just being nosey but how come you signed up for tickets without knowing what it is? Smile

LIZS · 04/04/2020 10:30

Steph has a chat show at lunchtimes on ch4, filmed in her kitchen/diner. So cameras and sound are set up already.

Icantstandpip · 04/04/2020 10:32

I really enjoyed it, stilted and all. I appreciated the effort of all involved.

LIZS · 04/04/2020 10:35

I did wonder if Steph's bit had been cut in afterwards as timing seemed odd.

testing987654321 · 04/04/2020 10:35

I found it quite amusing, but then I hadn't watched it for a few years as it was quite repetitive.

I enjoyed their more natural laughter than you usually get on the show.

SoupDragon · 04/04/2020 10:36

I think the odd timing was down to a slight lag between them all.

Pelleas · 04/04/2020 10:36

I do agree that they needed "audience" laughter but I'm not sure it would have worked as we know there is no audience.

I was thinking about this and I wondered if it might work for them to have 'ironic' canned laughter - e.g. they could press a laughter button or something like that.

PersephonePitstop · 04/04/2020 10:42

I was due to be in the audience (and the green room) in a few weeks, it’s going to be hard watching that one. Sad

Pelleas · 04/04/2020 10:44

Oh, no, you must be gutted, Persephone. Will you be able to get tickets for a future series?

CassandraCross · 04/04/2020 10:44

I thought it was dreadful, it just didn't work and fell flat as a pancake for me. It didn't flow (due no doubt to the set up) and lost the bouncing off one another dynamic plus the over the top laughing every time one of them said something was making me cringe.

megletthesecond · 04/04/2020 10:47

I enjoyed it.
I want routine, not everything dorpepd because it doesn't work perfectly.

megletthesecond · 04/04/2020 10:47

Dropped even.

Bbq1 · 04/04/2020 11:46

Still great. Me and dh laughed as much as ever. Hats off to HIGNFY and Ant and Dec (two very different shows but love both!) for continuing, albeit in a very different vein because we need laughter and comedy especially during these somewhere grim days.

PersephonePitstop · 04/04/2020 12:17

Thanks @Pelleas, I’m fully aware it’s not the worse thing to happen during this global pandemic but it still sucks.

I hope I’ll be able to go again but only if my contact is still on the production team Wink

They worked really hard to make the show, yes it’s not the same but it’s a reflection on society, nothing is as it was.

SoupDragon · 04/04/2020 12:35

I think they did a great job given what they have to work comments were still funny and some of the stories/pictures ridiculous. Yes, it lacked the smoothness but on the whole it was great.
