I don't know what an arctic roll is. Grin

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 08/04/2020 21:45

I’d be rubbish because my mum was not a brilliant cook.

fourquenelles · 08/04/2020 21:46

CELERY -ACK? John what are you on?

If I was cooking something inspired by my Gran it would be a tinned salmon sandwich followed by a frozen Sara Lee chocolate sponge not quite defrosted in the middle.

Wouldn't be winning any prizes sadly.

HMSophie · 08/04/2020 21:46

They must make allowances for the food to go cold surely?

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 08/04/2020 21:47

Grouchy man you’ve not lived! Sponge and jam wrapped round ice cream. Staple of 70s childhood.

ellenanora5 · 08/04/2020 21:47

Same here OhWhat I've mentioned before how terrible mine was in the kitchen Grin

I'd have to make something up

GrouchyKiwi · 08/04/2020 21:47

ilovesooty · 08/04/2020 21:47

HMSophie - I'm sure I remember Jay Rayner saying that most of the food is tasted cold by the time they've messed about with the filming and taking photographs etc.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/04/2020 21:48

Erm. I was neither alive in the '70s nor in this country. Grin Can you still get them?

LaMarschallin · 08/04/2020 21:49

I remember extolling the new M&S prawn & mayo sandwiches to my grandmother.
She recreated them with white sliced bread, tinned prawns and salad cream...

Halsall · 08/04/2020 21:49

Basically a Swiss roll with vanilla ice-cream in the middle, Grouchy. Staple pudding of many a 1970s childhood Smile

HMSophie · 08/04/2020 21:49

romaine aha ! Must be vile eating some of this stuff tepid.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 08/04/2020 21:49

Mine would be my mums unique take on risotto. Or a roast (well done) with very cooked veg and flat Yorkshire puds. And twice (for luck) sherried trifle.

ellenanora5 · 08/04/2020 21:50

John said celery yak

Halsall · 08/04/2020 21:50

Epic X-post with everybody....

LaMarschallin · 08/04/2020 21:50

Indeed, Bev.
It's Jonty and Gregg's fault for being difficult to please...

HMSophie · 08/04/2020 21:50

David is having a winning day

ilovesooty · 08/04/2020 21:50

I yhink Christian might be off.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 08/04/2020 21:51

Yes you can, (you child you) in fact there Is one in my freezer atm.

ilovesooty · 08/04/2020 21:51

David is going to win I reckon.

RomaineCalm · 08/04/2020 21:51

Even better were Arctic Circles - a slice of arctic roll coated in chocolate. Gourmet dining in the 70s.

fourquenelles · 08/04/2020 21:52

Too posh for us Romaine!
