tortoiseshell, there is being driven, which is of course no crime. But at any cost ? at any price? Some people are not just driven, they are ruthless. And I am not saying that based on any of the celebrities in particular. But you must realise, that this is true, non ?

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 11:32

AND my comment was totally non sexist either. I do not like ruthless men. Driven fine. Ruthless is a very unattractive quality. In both sexes.

RosaLuxMundi · 30/11/2007 11:33

Well Oblomov, speaking as someone whose much-loved father died of cancer a few years ago I am absolutely gobsmacked at your opinion that of course since he died on MONDAY there was no need for her to take time out from practicing THE WEEK BEFORE. When my Dad died the whole family was camped out in the hospital waiting room for the week before he died. We only left for short periods to shower and eat. We needed to be there to support Dad and each other through it. I appreciate that if it hasn't happened to you, it may be hard to imagine what the process of dying actually involves, but believe me, if someone is dying of cancer the week before they die is frequently more intense than the week after. I am at your attitude quite frankly.

tortoiseSHELL · 30/11/2007 11:34

Yes I agree, trampling on other people is wrong. But I think it's unfair when people assume that any woman who is ambitious is also ruthless and doesn't care about people.

I don't know anything about KB apart from seeing her in SCD, but I do think she is cast as the 'win at any costs', probably deliberately by the producers, pairing her with BC.

But (sorry) I do think it's mean to take someone who has done nothing more than be ambitious, and in the week that her dad died to use that to make disparaging remarks!

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 11:34

Alesha to win.
Kenny off - even though his 'Dirty Dancing' lift was totally fab.

tortoiseSHELL · 30/11/2007 11:36

Now there I do agree - I think Alesha is the best dancer by far!

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 11:39

Well I am sorry about that Rosa. If she had wanted to pull out I would have had every sympathy.
And if what you say is true, then one wonders why she agreed to do the show.

tortoiseSHELL · 30/11/2007 11:40

Sorry about your dad Rosa.

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 11:42

I do actaully know quite alkot bout Kelly Brook. And mine is not a unique view. Everyone I have spoken to thinks the same. My colleagues at work, both male and female think the same.
And I was not making nasty comments about anyone who has lost a parent. I am not that stupid or insensitive. I was making a personal opinion about about a particular celebrity and her circimstances.

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 11:49

Kelly and Brendan were in the dance off. This shows that joe public are not impressed. So, its not just me then ?
She is the most beautiful woman. My dh loves her. I still think she is totally the most beautiful woman. But I don't think her dancing is that great.
Brendans choreography has also let her down. Her giggly personality is not particularly endearing.
This is just my personal opinion.

NAB3littlemonkeys · 30/11/2007 12:31

Oblomov What do you know and how do you know it?

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 12:43

I knew someone, not famous, who was at the Conti stage school with her.

bossybritches · 30/11/2007 13:08

Spill the beans then Ob - is the giggly girl act just that or is she really just pretty & thick?

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 13:17

I don't know that much really. Apparently she was the same at school as she is now. She is very giggly and girly. I am not sure that she is thick. That is the big debate, isn't it ? I am not sure, but she does seem to be very , see the good in people and things and very lighthearted , as if she is i a bubble/world of her own - is how my, then friend, described her. She is very driven , knows what she wants and applies herself totally. And that I do have respect for.

bossybritches · 30/11/2007 13:20

Oh yes I think that's what drives me nuts it the simpering girly "oh I'm so silly" bit whereas we all know she is driven & ambitious (like Gabby was/is) but she pretends she isn't. I'd have more respect for her if she was honest!

But if that's the way she is it's difficult to unlearn those habits!

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 13:30

I used to really like her, but I just can't take to her, since she started strictly. I don't think she is helping herself. I think women (and my colleagues think women vote more than men on this show) like Alesha, and that women can take to Letitia. But, I did like her before, but she is just irritating, and suspect that other voters(which I have never voted) feel the same.

ChipButty · 30/11/2007 14:02

Thanks for the words of sympathy re my Dad.

Any of you going to Strictly Come Dancing Live after Christmas? We've got tickets for Nottingham - 1st Feb. Can't wait!

ruty · 30/11/2007 14:10

Well i have much more sympathy for KB now than i did before. Because it must have been extremely hard for her to go on when her dad was dying. I'm sure her dad would have been horrified if she'd pulled out because of him, I'm sure he wanted her to do as well as possible. so I don't really go with the hard nosed theory. And she didn't mention last week, or leak it to the press, and I have much admiration for her for that. Of course she is ambitious. And of course she has learned, like many other women in her position, that the best way to forge ahead is to seem non threatening to men, ie giggly and bashful. But she has done well as a result and all credit to her. I don't particularly think she should win, though this might give her an edge, that's just the way these things work. But see her in a differnt light, definitely.

emsiewill · 30/11/2007 14:42

Just heard on R5 that KB has quite Strictly, she "can't go on" apparently.

Do feel sorry for her, whatever I think of her personality...

emsiewill · 30/11/2007 14:44

here

So another final with 2, not 3, couples...

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 14:48

Now everything has changed & I have total respect for KB.

Oblomov · 30/11/2007 14:51

why 2 instead of 3 ?
Emsie that page has two articles, one saying she is pulling out, the other link, in the top right hand corner, saying she is going to carry on dancing ?
What is going on ?

emsiewill · 30/11/2007 14:55

2 instead of 3 because there's one less couple, and they won't have a week where no-one goes - Sunday show would be a bit wierd!

They did it last year, cos Jimmy Tarbuck had to drop out.

It was on R5 that she had dropped out, and the link is to a BBC website, so I do believe it. The other link on there is prob to an earlier story? (haven't checked it)

emsiewill · 30/11/2007 14:56

Just checked, and that story was from yesterday. The one I linked to is from 14:15 today.

ruty · 30/11/2007 14:59

what a shame. I would have had total respect for her if she had carried on, anyway.
